I have stopped playing EVE 3 times because I just get fed up with not making any ISK from exploration. I have heard many people say they make billions of isk in only a few weeks from exploring relic/data sights, but my experience is not the same at all. I don't know if I am really terrible at this profession or I am just extremely unlucky.
I have most of the necessary skills to run null sec exploration. I can scan down a sight fairly quickly, I can successfully hack most data/relic containers, and I don't have too much trouble staying alive. When I find a sight I normally only salvage 1-2 million isk of materials. I hear people make close to 20 million per sight!!!! I spend multiple hours traveling and exploring locations deep in space, but I get super frustrated because I make close to nothing
I guess I just need advice on how to decide what areas of space to explore. I look some stats on the map like jumps in last hour, ships killed, and active players to decide where to go. It seems like everywhere I go all the sights are already explored and there are only scraps left for me. Is there a strategy to this?
Please tell me what I am doing wrong!! Thanks! |

This question has been asked here many times if you look on the first 2 or 3 pages you should find a couple threads on it. Short summary is HS make almost no isk. Low sec is better but you need to go deeper in low and find systems that are not busy and most likely not close to high sec. Null is better than low and wormhole seems to be even better. Of course the risks go up with each of those steps. |

Relic sites are generally more valuable/smaller cargo. Some players don't even run data sites. This also means most people avoid drone space since it doesn't contain relics. |

OP clearely states, that he farms in null. So no point to tell him to look pages and pages of info if you can not give him needed information though you read all those pages.
Short answer is : Outer Ring Long answer: it really does not matter "where", what does matter is "when". Since last few patches, starting with Odessey, killed the normal way of exploration, you have to run through sites exactly after downtime. Cause every goon and his grandmother will start doing this straight after server restart and will not farm the anomaly entirely. They will pick only best cans and leave. So the data or relic side will still be there, but it will be plundered. That why you get so miserable rewards. If null explorers would clear the side it would respawn, but they do not. Farming in less populated places like Outer ring will give you more time to run through systems after server restart. But still you will not get too much. Dotlan map is your friend here. Also interesting option is to farm in calm FW constalations like Jayai. But it is a big risk and actually very much gambling. You can try wormholes, but I think you need combat able ship for this.

I may be talking out of my ass on this one, but im quite sure sites don't respawn on server restart, they respawn over time. My experience with the outer ring was, that there are way more people out to kill you than in the first ~10 nullsec systems.

I'd say your doing all the right things in checking what you check
it's possible your just being unlucky if possible you could try varying the time you attempt them

start using wormholes as intergalatic shortcuts to untouched areas of null
or just stick to wormholes in general |

low sec is much better for exploration then null for the simple reason that null is very picked over. It doesnt matter when you go, whether after downtime or at some other time, there is just too much competition in null imo. In low oth, there are always sites. Just say out of station systems unless you get on friendly terms with the local residents. Now whs and shattered whs in particular are much better then null and low for day tripping. Ofc you got to factor in the occasional loss of a ship as a cost of doing business, but that's life in a wh.

So far as I know, you are correct. Sites are on timers that persist through downtime.

It's funny, I do exploration in a very busy nullsec region and I see sites throughout the day. My experience is the opposite of Null Eternity's. If you go to a region where few people are running sites, and infrequently so, you won't find new ones respawning. In a busy region, sites are constantly being completed and so new ones are constantly spawning elsewhere. Now, I don't explore full-time, instead what I do is ratting and PVP and when I notice a new sig pops up in my home system I'll go scan it. Sometimes 2 or 3 relic sites will come to me in a day while I'm doing other things. |

Another newb spreading bad info. A cherry picked site despawns in one hour after first visit. Period. You don't need to "clear the side..." as you put it.

OP.
Are you confident to set up a POS in wormhole space and living out of it?
If yes, find a C1 to C3 wormhole that has a static to another wormhole of that type. Every time you get a connection to low or high, drop your stuff off at a station.
If living as a wormhole dweller doesn't appeal, instead live in quiet high and probe down wormholes to run sites there

The answer to the actual question is, perhaps unsurprisingly:
"By Exploring".
... seriously, though, apart from general site type variation with low/medium/null, and occasionally regions that don't spawn one type of site or another, it's basically random, and the statistical distribution of sites is governed primarily by how other players decide to farm the sites, not anything coded into the actual game.
So the only way to really find a pattern is to literally fly around for a while until a pattern jumps out at you as a result of what all your neighbors are doing. Thus, the name of the profession. |
