Really.... the launcher*32 process sitting in taskmon doing nothing, and zero hard drive activity. Killed the process after waiting 10 minutes, restarted launcher without changing anything. The previous 220mb update was replaced by a 284mb update, followed by a 7.6gb update.
I'm about to just delete everything and repatch completely. This is beyond clusterfarked. |

Manually moving the Resource Cache from initial location (platter drive) to new location (as selected via launcher, on SSD) worked. Apparently the launcher just can't be arsed to do it.
Back up the [initial platter installed] Resource Cache to external drive, then deleted it. Everything seems to be working fine now.
Although I'm a bit scared to even try running the junction install at this point. |

Currently I have 3 EvE folders - SiSi, TQ 1st account, TQ 2nd account (as a walkaround to not being able to switch toons without relogging). At this moment each launcher/game updates separately and I'm ok with that.
With DoD will that change and if, how do i keep it the old way?
Can I patch all 3 clients and pick different cache folder for each or they will be somehow forced to use one?

Hmm,
After DT started launcher, patched everything properly and launched the game after about 15 mins, no issues at all. Me saying, "well that went better then expected"
rebooting PC, started launcher, launcher broken (you know the usual TQ unavailable, you have no connection, restart launcher, blabla screen) ...

I would like to know if the shared cache can be used both for Tranquility and Singularity ?
On one hand I would think : No, as developments / environments might get mixed, on the other hand if I look at the filenames it are unique names so it should be possible to get them in one location?
Another good insight to have would be a word if the (network) performance is good if you place the cache on a network share/(NAS) server. If it's minimal it might be an idea to place it there
Tnx in advance for the answers |

You can use the offline installer, or you can wait while the launcher downloads everything.
one last question: the Launcher behaves like usual if i dont change any settings and it will download the Patch/files as it normally does and the DOD is just for the ppl who dont dont to wait till the patch is downloaded before playing ? If you do not change any settings in the launcher, then at first login after downtime on March 24, 2015, the launcher will convert all the existing resource files in your client to new file-formats in a location of your choosing. This is done so that you do not need to download the full client again. After this is done, the launcher will then patch the release, and you are all set. If your connection is a bottleneck, then I'd probably recommend entering the launcher settings and ticking the "Download all the resource files" box. Doing this ensures that you have all the resources possibly needed in game. Bolded and underlined the part that, because as far as I know, is only possible on a Pc, on a Mac it's just placed on your HD. You have no choice. Right?
This is (unfortunately) correct.

No. If you have converted your existing resource files, and the launcher is telling you it's downloading 7GB, try to restart the launcher.

I have a (good) question: When I run SISI, the new launcher asks me where to put the game assets. It offers me a default location which looks very much like a singular "main install" location. If I subsequently allow TQ to use DoD, is it valid to use the same location? i.e. will assets be properly shared between the different versions, or should SISI have its own separate asset folder? Awaiting an answer for this before I activate DoD Many thanks
You false quote me again, and there will be no answering!
TQ and Sisi will share the asset folder (the sharedcache folder). When your TQ client asks you to convert your resource files, just choose the same file as your Sisi files. The extraction should be very quick as you will already have most of the files.

Yes, the shared cache is used for both servers. The files are hashed, meaning different files are stored under different file names so there is no possibility of conflicting files.
I would say storing it on a network server is a horrible idea. Network is almost always slower than local. |

Tnx for the feedback.
Very nice TQ and Sisi cache can be shared. Regarding putting it on a shared network drive / NAS, ofc network is slower but question is how much bandwidth will it take, if it's acceptable rather limited some people might be interested in putting it there.

Many thanks. Does this mean that over time, outdated assets will accumulate or is there some kind of reference counting?
For example if SISI updates an asset then presumably it will need a version number in the name (or path somewhere) to distinguish it from the current one on TQ.

Is there a link to a launcher download useable for this ? Like in this post : Dev Post launcherfix
As mentioned Downoad, Patch and running the game went perfect, after reboot of the PC and using my shortcut to Eve I got this
Launcher Error
Launching the game directly from the Bin folder works perfectly

Think the filenames are created with some hash name meaning there could be "TQ" and "Sisi" versions of assets. Regarding cleanup i've no idea suppose they will do some housekeeping or a spring/winter/etc cleanup of the cache |

For not giving the option to chance the shared cache folder to another hardrive with more space. Causing to freeze up the launcher and having to use task manager to close it and now launcher don't even restart. Thank you |

Anyone have a general idea how fast your internet has to be to use download on demand. My eve install takes up 13 GB of space, and it might be nice to lessen that amount. I figure trying download on demand would mean uninstalling EVE than reinstalling the download on demand installer version to test it. I would rather not do that without having an idea of how fast my internet needs to be. |

Nope.
So you can have multiple Eve installs, without them using double the disk space.
For example. Sisi and TQ for example.

I recently played EVE while in a remote Alaskan town, and while the speed was horrifically slow (Literally worse than 56k dial-up), the latency was ok.
Turns out that aside from patches, playing EVE uses only a very tiny amount of actual data exchange. So your issues have more to do with the latency between you and the host than they do the actual amount of data exchanged.
Oh and Download on Demand is 100% optional. You can go ahead and download the entire package like you already do instead of going the download by demand route.
Which you would know if you went and read the dev blog.
Good.
One of the reasons to put 5000 bubbles on a gate and keep the gates up to that bubble free is to cause a touch of client lag in the graphics loading all those bubbles and get that gank. (anything to win in spergian smells like underwear land)
Download on demand is going to be like that but on steroids. I would recommend to anybody who undocks to avoid it and download everything at once and keep the client fully up to date.

This is correct. The filenames include hashes, which does change if the the asset has changed. The clients know which version of the assets they should request.
Regarding the housekeeping/cleanup: We currently can do this via a command line tool that's included in the client (rescache.exe), but we need to incorporate this functionality into the launcher. Let's call that a work in progress, but I don't see this coming an issue for a few releases, at least. This tool is also not yet packaged up for the Mac, but there is a working script at https://github.com/ccpgames/rescache
