IF: a) Devs and players alike keep saying: "they should not be solo pwnmobiles". b) And thus moans about those facts can be heard every day. c) If BS's never seemed to move outta the top spot at the "nerf requests" (Nos, 200km sniping, etc) list. d) Devs do hear those whines and do pay attention to forums. e) They have already been nerfed in the past.
These last two are probably good facts. The first three make me want to borrow your crystal ball. In any case, everything you've said paints a circumstantial picture at best... unfortunately that's not very helpful to me at all.
Quote: THEN: Why would you recommend them as a viable, long lasting choice?
If you ask me, I will always steer towards the safest bet. In this case, a lesser-sized ship, such as T2 Frig, T1 Cruisers, BC's, which aren't always in the nerfing crossfire.
Your logic isn't making sense. It might make sense if you were talking about T2 BSs vs T2 cruisers, but obviously you can't be. Insure your BS, it's a safe bet. If changes occur you don't like or cause you not to want your ship, sell it. If that happens to be the worst time to sell it, sell it to your insurance company if you know what I mean... I don't see the downside here at all, dude.
Quote: I wouldn't risk myself to go for what's clearly the best today, when you can see the nerf coming a mile away.
Why play the game at all? It's just gonna end up changing.
Quote: Despite all of the above, you still show up talking about how good and versatile battleships are, and some of you are pretty much saying they're "solopwnmobiles", a phrase wielded by every single anti-bs guy and their mothers, so this leads me to ask...
Which side are you really on???
How about the side that knows because they know, not because they're told?
Seriously, about the solopwnmobiles... how many times have BSs attacked you and you came out on top in a smaller ship? Estimate.
When it happens to my T1 frigs-BCs, I usually don't survive. If I'm ready with some ECM and quick-thinking and quick-reacting, I might survive by escaping. If I catch one off guard, happen to have enough firepower, and the target doesn't know what they're doing I might have a chance. That has happened exactly zero times.
Maybe I'm a noob, but it seems to me plenty often that I'm losing a fight because the other guy has tons more HP and firepower than I do.
So maybe they are solopwnmobiles. I don't see any problem with BSs right now that needs a nerf even if it turns out that I'm completely right. The things that matter in such a fight (like tracking speed or weapon calibers) matter. A small ship not designed to collide with a giant projectile is going to have a rougher time shrugging it off - IF the larger ship has the accuracy to inflict the damage in the first place.
You still haven't even said how they had been nerfed in the past, and how your crystal ball says they'll be nerfed in the future.

That's just a different kind of experience you are making your conclusions with.

Carrier - 0.0 ISK machine and the ultimate in personal logistics, all in one package. HAC/CBC/Recon - pick one. All great for solo work and small gangs. Inty - pod transport, affordable PvP.
I'd like to stuck a BS somewhere on the list, but if I could fly all 3, I could do without it. Even though I would already have most skills for it. ------ No ISK, no fun |

Cov ops are definitely worth it, but they're a speciality. If a small corp can get 1-2 cov op pilots at any time, they're set.
If you're a die hard industrial, cov op becomes pretty much a must for BPO transport. Even if you're not paranoid, they're out to get you . ------ No ISK, no fun |

BS - fleet battles CS - gang support, great for smaller hunts recon - do i have to explain?
I think those are the best for pvp. However, it is also impossible to live without haulers and ice mining barges - BS can mine minerals but not ice. So for the whole mix of everything you need: BS barge recon

I am not sure but I think this is how I would pick my top 3.
BS: My favourite ship in EVE by far. Commandships: I haven't flown any of those but I like BCs so... Intys: Just got into one afew days ago and I <3 it. _____

I'd say it's eihter a Machariel or Vindicator. With all the trimmings, they're pretty close to godhood. ------ No ISK, no fun |

Well, I'm not interesting in winning the game...just in having fun. IMHO a BS is a TON O'FUN/WHUP*** pretty much anywhere against any single ship in it's class or below, simply by virtue of it's fittings and statistics. Is a BS going to win everytime? No. Is it going to make an unskilled/impatient/spoiled mama's boy pilot invinceable? No(thank the goddess). But it's a deadly opponent when properly equipped and placed in the hands of a good pilot, and that is what makes it FUN! Then again, pretty much ANY SHIP can be a fun ship if outfitted and flown intelligently.

command ship, recon ship, interceptor.
except for the long range sniping, command ships can do most thing as well or better than bs. itty v/mammoth and carrier for HM.

The alts the alts it makes my head ache... for the new guy
get urself a raven for ratting to make money an apoc for mining till u can get an uber barge enough skills with haulers so you can fit a cruiser in the cargo with expanders an interceptor so you can zip around and tie down people and your choice of command ship hac or battleship for when you feel like doing some dmg
cruisers are a great place to start as you will lose ships and losing cruisers is a good way to get the "its not the end of the world" idea in your head instead of loosing that cerberus that someone made a 10 jump trip through hostile territory without instas in a hauler to bring you 15 min after you undocked it...
:) Neither night nor day can give me purchase. Only purged dust on earth can avenge the worthless. |

Are AF's bad? I kind of wanted to get one, but everyone seems to think Interceptors are better. It seemed like a good progression before HAC.

for pvp nothing really beats the tech 1 cruiser, cheap and versitle. they can trash AFs or trash other cruisers and in gangs even take on battleships, HACs and other big expensive things.
never underestimate the power of tech 1.

Best 3 ships to own.
1. Whatever seems like it might be fun.
2. Whatever seems like it might be fun.
3. Whatever seems like it might be fun.
Because this is a freaking game and if you are not doing it for fun then you are pretty freakin' stupid.

Battleships (ratting) command ships are getting more popular for this too Intercepters (empire runs / high speed travel) Transports (picking up loot and moving ****)
