I've played the game on a trial before, and when I've activated my account I thought it would keep my character...has the deadline passed?
If I am starting over then
I want to make a character skilled in a long-range combat, how should I distribute the stat points at the beginning?

Intel, memory, willpower about equal, charisma low & perception the highest would be the quick answer.

Like the previous poster said, perception and willpower are important to combat characters. It's also important not to get stuck in a single role, like long-range combat. What you should do is focus on combat in general - tech 1 railguns / howitzers / beams, then beef up your gunnery skills across the board and fly ships that are appropriate to long range combat (Moa, Thorax, Rupture, Maller). Be sure to train up skills to use sensor boosters and tracking computers; they will increase your targeting range and speed. In EVE you can branch out, and these skills will give you a generally good underpinning with which to further specialize. _______________________________________________

Well, they'll be higher than that; like 10 perc, 10 will, 4 charisma, 8 intel 8 memory (or whatever the point distribution is) _______________________________________________

He's asking where to put his points. I guess what he's forgetting is the role that bloodline and ancestry play. 10 int/per, 8 will/mem, and the rest in cha would be something good to aim for. Maybe give a bit on memory if you need to in order to get a bloodline you really like.
Of course, this is assuming you want to be primarily a fighter. Those interested in industry will find memory a lot more valuable, and scientists will like intelligence even more.

Well its all over and done with...any tips for combat before I get *****ing in this rookie ship? I'm gutted to be honest. On my trial account character, I was ready to fly a battleship before it expired...

You should be able to upgrade a trial account to a full account. CCP guarantees that any character is kept for at least 6 months before deletion, but they haven't deleted a character yet. I'm not 100% sure whether this also applies to trial characters, but it's worth a try.
Just make sure you log into the website with that username/password and select 'activate/upgrade account' not 'make new account'.
