iMac (27-inch, Mid 2011) 3.4 GHz Intel Core i7 8 GB 1333 MHz DDR3 AMD Radeon HD 6970M 2048 MB
I have been running fine since the Scylla update, but upon login this morning, my screen goes black and is in window mode.
I can scroll across where my main and alts are and can "select" one and I hear the hangar, but the screen is black.
If I force non-window mode, the screen is white.
Is there any reason the game would play, but the graphics are not showing?
I've tried deleting and re-installing the client, but to no avail.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!!!! |

Only one of my clones keeps crashing with the following msg : 'Exception raised Unhandled page fault on write access to 0x45442300 at address 0x700cc3a5.'
All other clones seem to work fine. Any ideas? |

Still crashing on my end, too. When I go through a gate, loot a wreck, shoot an NPC rat... There doesn't seem to be anything consistent that would link any of these actions.

Since the Scylla update, I have had much more regular Client crashes. It seemed to have improved since Tiamat when I went to Windowed mode and dumbed down all of the graphics to the point where there is no detail in anything, but at least the client was relatively stable (wouldn't crash multiple times a day). Since Scylla, my client crashes every 5-60 minutes randomly:
Docking/Undocking Jumping through a gate Scanning for anomalies Bookmarking Opening my cargohold Etc (you get the point)
I generally only have 1 other application running at the same time as EVE: Mumble and using the overlay
Prior to Scylla, this was not a problem. Since the increase in crashes, I stopped using Mumble and ran EVE and nothing else. No improvement in the frequency of client crashes.
The failure mode is always the same: Game freezes for 2-10 seconds. I open the Activity Monitor to see what is going on EVE Client is using 47% CPU, then 59%, then 82%, then 103% At this point, the Client crashes and I get this error window:
"Exception raised Unhandled page fault on read access to 0x00000024 at address 0x7001c524
Would you like to create a crash report?"
I always say yes, at which point, the client closes down and I have to re-start.
I have not yet tried turning off the sound but at this rate, I may as well be playing one of the 80's arcade style games with just vector graphics and no sound :(
2014 5K Retina iMac 4GHz Intel Core i7 16GB AMD Radeon R9 M295X 4096 MB Yosemite 10.10.2
It SURE would be nice to have a OSX 10.10.# stable CIDER client. I hope "weeks" doesn't turn into "months" or worse! |

This problem can be addressed by creating clones to use for multiple clients. You can find a guide here

Will we be able to have DoD actually work as a DoD system?

Yeah, sorry for misleading you! This is on a version we are hoping to deploy with the next release. DoD should work as intended, we had to deploy a workaround for Scylla, which will be removed with the new version. I haven't seen the "freeze forever" bug you've mentioned in my testing. I will be aiming to provide a full list of fixes included when we are a bit closer to release.
Best,

I hope the new cider also translates direct-x to open GL better. But maybe that's hoping for too much.

Yep, I am getting a lot of crashing going on since Scylla as well. Lost 2 ships as a result of it. Whoopy doo...
I am getting a combination of different crashes. Sometimes it says socket closed, this has happened about 4 times tonight.
Other times I just get the entire Mac frozen and then have to do a hard boot which is not fun. It is on these occasions I have come back to find myself in either a new clone or a capsule. Lost a complete set of +5s and a deadspace fitted T2 ship in what should have been a no-brainer escape. I know from a decade with CCP they won't reimburse me, they never have despite me seeing complete asses get reimbursed over their own stupidity. Anyway, back to the technical issues.
I had it crash once when I had an e-mail notification pop-up.
I had it crash when my phone was syncing with iTunes.
I had it crash when I had a automatic software update working in the background.
I have had it crash pretty much when anything else happens on the Mac and Eve doesn't like it. Particularly if it's port related.
Overall, in the last few days it has become virtually unplayable.

And yep, I am getting that Freeze forever bug A LOT!
Like after 10-60 mins in game, but seems to be multi-task related. I think there is some kind of memory leak in Eve so that if it has to share resources it just goes into a loop.
First rule of eve on a Mac: Turn off everything else. E-mail should be off. Itunes should be off, and certainly no syncing should be occurring. Anything that could trigger an auto-update should be off.
What eve does not like is anything that causes communication with your computer. Kill it all. Kill it with fire.
I agree eve should not be this way. But it is.

My cloned client has been having issues locking up and such. Really don't wanna have to reset up all my windows. Seems to only start in the last day or two. Been running fine since main patch day, but one of the newer ones might have hurt it somehow..
If anyone can help me find the crash logs, i'll send those to CCP

Just started playing this game on my imac last month. It has been fairly stable until yesterday 4/1. Now it crashes randomly about every 5-30 minutes. Game freezes for a about 10 seconds, then unfreezes and I can move around, then I get crash report and Eve closes. Turned off openGL and sound, but no affect. I'm not running any other programs.
It's kind of sad. EVE is a cool game and was stable for me until yesterday. |

Here is an update on my Scylla experience:
After reading through most of the Mac related crashing posts, the one common thing that was mentioned most often as a "fix" for the client freezing/crashing was to turn OFF the audio. So I did that three days ago
Since then....NO CRASHES, NO FROZEN CLIENT WINDOW, NO ERRORS.
I have been re-adding the various graphics options one at a time to see if that affects the client stability. Will update again if I come across anything specific.
I have noticed how much of the gaming experience revolves around sound. It's a big loss and makes playing kind of one dimensional but at least I have stability now. |

I am currently running a late 2012 iMac with the latest OSX update and currently the biggest cause of crashes for me is from running more than one client at the same time and then closing one of them down. 90% of the time closing one client out of many will cause all clients to lock up and freeze. The only time it doesn't do this is if I force quit one of the clients and the others so far continue to run.
I have also had to resort to using eve in windowed mode as quite often due to the occasional crash causes the entire mac to lock up. (Can move mouse, but can't quit out of the eve client.)
Can also confirm that there is a significant reduction in performance since the last update, this is particularly noticeable with three clients. |

Hi Tiberius,
Using Clonemaker to create different prefs folders and links for multiple clients mitigates this crash. Full instructions available here
With regards to the performance reduction, are you seeing this across the board? Or mainly running multiple clients? What graphics settings do you run each client with?
Cheers,
Sledge.

Thank you for this! I will try out clone maker tonight.
It's seems mostly to be since the last patch, and in particular its loading grids when undocking, landing on warp
When the space factory was first released the grid would load a lot faster than before as in I would see all the brackets of things and then the graphics would load up afterwards. Which was brilliant because before the client would just freeze while it loaded and then everything would appear.
However, The same issue has now come back, where a grid and all UI can take a good few seconds to load. On one particular instance I found b my ship had floated off the undock for maybe 15-20km (frigate mind) before the grid loaded and I was able to take control.
This happens irrespective of what graphical settings I use. |

I figure I'l chime in on this too. Game is too unstable to play. I can't even manage to scan down an anomaly before it crashes. I'm stuck at a safe bookmark until this is fixed. I'll keep an eye on this thread. If there is a fix I'll resub. Also want to thank all your devs for making it possible to play EVE Online on my Mac in the first place. Great game. |

What's interesting is that I got the exact same thing trying to run /Applications/Singularity.app/Contents/MacOS/launcher while attempting to find a way to connect to Singularity.
So there's something about the particular way that Spotlight is deciding to launch EVE that's causing that.

I am also experiencing crashes when switching audio devices (ie plugging in headphones). I haven't tested fully, but it seems as thought eve is also unstable while I have mumble running. Has the updated cider build been included in the patches yet, or is it planned for the "Codename Mosaic" update? |
