Since I'm not getting any response in my thread about hiking and waterfalls and sightseeing in Iceland during Fanfest, perhaps I'll get an answer here.
One thing I just noticed, the Fanfest party at the Blue Lagoon, tickets are $99, but if I were to just go to the Blue Lagoon on my own its only $40, maybe $50ish if I want to use one of their towels (can I bring my own towel and leave it in the locker with my clothes?). So what is the difference for the Fanfest lagoon tickets and a normal one? |

WOW! Thanks everyone for the excellent responses(especially the one mentioning pulled pork mmmmm). I would never have imagined so many people would help me out and I am much more confident in the food selection and travel advice. A lot of people seem to be concerned about the weather, but considering the East Coast of the US has suffered 3 years of crippling winter storms(this season has been the mildest) it never crossed my mind to worry about cold weather and I tend to dress warm either way. I can say for sure that I will probably be unimpressed with pizza but i'll be willing to compare. I have heeded everyone's warning and will be diverting a decent amount of souvenir money(not that I planned to buy much anyway) towards food expenses. I dont eat much volume anyway(remember the 120lbs part?) but I am interested in experiencing the food regardless. My company has denied usage of my mobile phone so that was made clear and I will be contacting my bank as well as photocopying my passport for preventative measures. One question I was wondering recently is: Is there any other vendors at Fanfest? I noticed that Oculus VR, Nvidia, Razer and a bunch of gaming companies/media outlets come to fanfest. My concern is that if I come to fanfest and see a bunch of booths selling goodies, that I wont have anything to carry them in LOL. I will be attending a lot of panels(even the "boring" ones) so I want to make sure I am not walking into those with a backpack full of loot swag. |

As I was too late to buy them I couldn't get them neither from CCP or at the blue lagoon. |

Second trip to Iceland. Things to note and Google 1. Flybus 2. AirBNB if you need a place (most hotels have booked up close to venue) 3. Cheap but good food - Hot Dog Cart close to Harpa..just follow the crowds. Cheap and delicious!
Would also recommend buying from the Grocery store for some meals and items. Restaurants every night is going to cost you.
If you buy stuff and its too much, you need to weigh the pros and cons of buying/paying for an extra bag vs Post.
Hope your trip is a good one, d'ont be afraid to ask folks at Fanfest...only a few weirdos there.
Cheers Vil |

Monkeys represent! OOK!!!!! Im not too worried about my phone. My intelligent girlfriend, says I should have it for emergencies, but what is the fun in that? Last thing I want is phone calls from the US, when I booked the trip to avoid just that. I alredy bought a ticket for the Bar Crawl........its gonna be a good night ;) |

Buy a prepaid Siminn SIM during your flight, and for one week your phone needs are done.
My third fanfest, never without my Siminn...

From what i understand, you also get access to a private area hence the increaed price. and it will prolly be packed.

Well as it turns out I won't have time to do the Blue Lagoon and Jokulsarlon, so Jokulsarlon takes trump. Maybe next trip I'll plan better and have more time. |

Time to bundle up again I also noticed the new blog update for the store swag and boy am I gonna be broke........ If you are braving the cold for the bar crawl, I should be the only person in all of Iceland wearing a bright yellow Spongebob T-Shirt that night(trust me its rich), so ill be pretty easy to spot/point out for the fellow Goons/Spacemonkeys. |

(Source: CSM winter minutes, day 2) Its not cold, its mildly refreshing You never stood outside for 1 and a half hours with the ccp devs walking past EDIT: With it raining, snowing, and blowing at near hurricane force speed. However some devs were nice and roughed it with us. If it's raining it's not really cold. And besides, horizontal snow and near hurricane winds is a normal winter day. 20 below freezing, 3 feet of snow per hour and actual hurricanes is proper weather, and might even make locals go "gee, it's a bit windy today". Edit: And btw, the locals have a special saying about the weather. "If you don't like it, wait 15 minutes and it will have changed."
gotta say this about Icelandic peeps they know their weather ! I got there one year there was 5" foot of snow in places and I was speaking to a bloke and I mentioned the snow and the depth and he "meh it will be gone by the week end " and fuk me ! he was right !! not a bloody drop in sight by the weekend ! Icelandic peeps know there weather ! bloody windy though !
