hi i want to know what ship is best to do lvl 3 missions in?
i have tryed a BC (prophecy) and it really dident work out good. i had t2 armor hardner and 3 heavy beam laser and 3 medium beam laser and i did not do mutch good when all small ships just swarmed me and my slow ship did not even hit them.
i have heard that an AF is the way to go and it will be easy to fix the mission in an AF. is this true?
or should i skip the hole af/interceptor step and go fore a hac to be able to do the mission easy?

BC is just right for L3. Use drones for frigates.

Yep, same here, ferox w/heavy missiles + drones. Only 3 light drones at the moment tho' :) Most difficult missions take usually an hour and a bit, max 2 hours if I'm collecting every bit of loot myself (and not BMs + come back with another ship after mission complete).
HACs are good for L4s already :) An AF takes longer to complete L3 missions than a BC. __ Always question everything. Including yourself. |

The prophecy is the right ship. Post your complete fitting to Ships and Modules and ask for help with a better setup.

Possible and optimal are 2 very different things. Drones are free DPS; if your ship has a dronebay it's silly not to put something in it. Also, drones are a great way to handle smaller ships if your weapon systems are tuned for larger ones.
You'll be able to do your missions without them, but you won't be as fast as someone who's using his ship's full capabilities.

Um training drones to a level that they're useful in L3 missions is about um... 2 hours of training, tops. they're certainly worth the time savings. I can kill frigates with my drones (2 med, 1 light) on my Ferox while I kill the cruisers and battlecruisers with my missiles. (I run a launcher ferox fitted for passive shield tanking, works great).
But to answer your question: Yes, it's certainly possible to do L3 missions w/o drones... I dunno why you'd want to though.

BCs are perfectly suited for L3s. You'll want to gear the majority of your weapons for taking out cruisers, and use drones for the frigs. You can get by without drones, but you can get by without feet, too. I trained Drones to V as soon as my learning skills were done, and now I can shred pretty much any frig that comes at me while my missles take care of the cruisers. And then I trained Drone Interfacting, Sharpshooting, Navigation, and Scout Drone Op to 4...frigs? I thought I saw frigs, but now there's just shrapnel...
Seriously, use drones. You'd be insane not to.

when I was still running missions I used a vexor for lvl3's and it worked ok, they were tough but doable. I would say a BC would be perfect.

Drones make a world of difference on level 3's. I toggled between beam and pulse setups on my Prophecy, frustrated that I couldn't hit frigates but not wanting to gimp my overall setup. Trained up my drone skills and frigates become a joke. I now run with a full heavy beam setup for owning cruisers. I hardly even bother shooting frigates... my drones usually kill them faster than I can loot with my tractor beam.

Why not pass on using a BC altogether then and use an assault ship for level 3s?
I can't see why you'd want to pass on using drones, as so many ships have a drone bay and not using that space is effectively a waste of that ships abilities.
Plus if you ever progress to level 4 missions you will have a devil of a time doing them without drones.

I can do Level 3's in my Ferox quite well, and drones do make a big difference, especially if you can put 4 or 5 into the field.
