I'm gonna make this quite clear before i continue, this IS NOT a whine about the state of the server, rather the mess the client is in after christ knows how many half baked patches.
Since Dragon deployment i have been unable to reliably connect to the server. I wonder if anyone else has the same problem. U hit connect , get the processing bulk data messages and all that , and then just when u expect to go to the character select screen, what happens?
Absolutley nothing.
It just sits there. So u hit connect and get some bull**** about local session information being corrupted and having to restart the client. So you do. And the same thing happens.
OVER AND OVER AGAIN
In the end i restart my machine. Sometimes that fixes it. But not always. Sometimes i just have to try and connect THIRTY OR FOURTY times before i get in. And then 10 minutes later my client crashes and the whole sorry mess starts again.
And yes, ive tried reinstalling the client. All that achieved was resetting all my options and deleting my BM folders.
Whine over.

Edited by: Changrey on 08/09/2006 23:55:00 Tried cleaning every trace of EVE on your PC and starting over? I mean everything. Cookies, left-over files, config entrys, database entrys, the works.
I honestly doubt the problem is with the client itself, since no one (that I know off) have the same problem, but more likely some type of error or file-compatitability issue (that may have been introduced with Dragon).

30,000 people seem not to have this problem.
Prehaps you could be kind enough to give us the run down of your system, connection info, firewall/anti-virus, and your ISP also your location within the world is a help too. --------------

Using AVG and Zone Alarm.
Located in Scotland using BT Internet.
Its the same system i used pre-Dragon.
I have a suspicion i was getting corrupted session info before Dragon, but pre Dragon i dont think the client cared and let u log in anyway. And tbh i never noticed and problems.
Now i just cant log in untill whatever obscure problem it is fixes itself. Its very frustrating.

I have the same problem, fortunately it's not as bad as yours. I usually have to connect 3-5 times before I enter the character selection screen, 25% of the time I get in the first time.
I've tried cleaning the cache and everything, didn't help. I've got no idea what could possibly be causing this.

no, three people dont have this problem. that's you and the other two. just because people dont post on the forums doesnt mean they're fine. in fact, i dare wager a large chunk of people don't even KNOW there are forums

I dont think its a time out.
You dont get the error message untill u try and connect again without restarting the client. Thing is, u can hit connect the second u u should have entered the charactyer select and u get the message.
Which ive just remembered says something about how connecting in tjhis state would lead to an unpleasant gaming experience, which is why i think its a Dragon " Fix ", to stop ur client running like ****. In fact it just stops ur client running.

maybe, just maybe get off your whine mode horse and post your problems in the knows issues and workaround section.
beacause, the eve cliebt is fine, BUT some crappy computers, older hardware and older drivers, comp configs dont work well.
so, in the end, its most likely the platic thing in front of you, not eve.

Probably a stupid suggestion, but have you got windows XP? or any of the other supported windows?
The dragon code changed it so the older windows that arent supported by microsoft are now no longer supported by EVE, but probably a stupid question as I'm sure youre aware of it.
Another one again might be silly but is your system clock correct? in your motherboards BIOS as well as windows? this can sometimes cause wierd problems.
Above two suggestions are probably no help, but cant think why else it would do it and no one I know of has this problem so it seems likely to be at your end rather than client and/or server.

Just about the worst whine in the history of MMORPGs.
I know a lot of Eve players and none of them are reporting such problems. Seriously, it's you, or your machine, your machine's OS installation, or something you've done to it, or your connection, etc etc. One of the above has changed for the worse during the recent patch series.

try running the logserver.exe when you connect. send the report to ccp once it is run. there should be a sticky in the Issues section that can help you.
TBH - Weirda would bet that one of their new "non-pre-win2k" security protocols is trying to use a port that is blocked for you. up until the login sequence is complete and you kick into fullscreen, pretty sure it doesn't go into it high port range.
as for the way that you delivered this message, some would say that is a lot of the problem with these forum these day. pretty easy to get help if you ask nice. __ Weirda Join QOTSA Now |

I am running two clients on my XP box with AVG and am having absolutely no problems whatsoever.
Have you thought that it may not be a problem with the game client but with XP? Maybe you should reinstall your OS and then see what happens

try a cold shower, slap self vigerously about the face, when you WAKE UP and start to think, you might want to download the client, delete everything but your settings files, and reinstall (might consider an OS clean install) and be done with it.
Client works just fine on 5 machines, so I have to think it is YOU.

From the experience I have gathered. Ever since exodus the client has become very very touchy about file corruption. If everything on your pc is really really clean and no the harddrive is good and healthy you will have no problem.
but any little thing can make the client throw a hissy fit, like corrupted file sectors on your HD, driver problems, bad installations of installer.
I had a problem with d/l the new client with constant corruptions of the file but finally narrowed it down to my hard drive. Using win2k myself and don't get this particular problem. one possible thing you could try is to disable paging or move it to another hard drive if you can

I have had the same problem also. Tried putting in a request to CCP but really got very little back in the way of response that was helpful.
However, I was having another problem in that I was not able to get access to MyCharacter on the Eve Online website and trolling about I found a reference to Zone Alarm which I use. After disabling it I found that this solved the problem and amazingly enough my other problems too.
Basically there seems to be some sort of issue with EVE and Zone Alarm when it transistions. Fortunately I'm behind a router so I can safely disable ZA when I play EVE but it may not be an option for everyone. And it's a half-assed fixed. It would be much nicer if CCP would actually post something about these problems and how to resolve them.

although I totally sympathise when people experience intermittent, flaky or unplayable connections to any sort of service, be it the worldwideinterweb, mail or a game server.. I really doubt its the client as a whole, as its been probably said above, theres 30k + os us now, and the vast majority do not have these issues.
I would flatten your client, and reinstall from scratch, if that fails go a step further and flatten your machine. Extreme I know, but it might be the only way.
Is your hardware ok ? ADSL, routers, NIC etc etc etc. ===============================================

Firstly, seeing as the majority of players are not experienceing this exact same issue, your placement of blame on the client is unfounded.
Secondly, when the bug reporting website is opened back up to the public, please submit a bug report with log server files AND crash dump files.
You should have done this when you first experienced problems if you have not done so already.
P.s: Altho we may not reply to your bug report, be assured that it WILL be looked at and the appropriate action will be taken, ___________________________ ~Jiekon

TBH, if you are running a more recent OS then W98, it sounds a like a problem caused by crappy memory modules. Replace your RAM or test it with memtest86 (google it with the word ISO and i'm sure you'll find a download link in no time. Burn it, boot it, then let it run overnight.)
I've never heard of or seen the problem you describe and I have two characters and ran the client on at least 15 to 20 different pc's over the last 3 years. -- .sig apathy ftw |
