Hey guys,
While we were not able to make it happen for last FanFest, we would love to get the Dev Track stuff back for FanFest 2015.
For those that don't know what I mean by Dev Track: We would like to set aside a room just for third-party developer stuff where we mix in presentations from CCPers and players all focused on third-party devs.
While we are not sure what CCP will be talking about yet, we wanted to get the discussion going with you guys as soon as possible so that if there was maybe something you wanted to share you could start thinking about it now.
In the past we have had presentations such as:
- PeterPowers talking about... well stuff. (also wearing a coyboy hat.... whats with that?)
- How Apature Harmonics renders maps of wormhole space.
- Some UI and UX stuff.
- Database sizes and how to handle that.
You can see an example of it here: http://embed.bambuser.com/broadcast/2494770?autoplay=1
This year the whole thing should be recorded proper to be put on YouTube, hopefully streamed on Twitch as well.
These talks can be about cool stuff you have done, technical talks about how to do interesting stuff, information on how to use a library or piece of software you have written, basically anything you guys think would be interesting to other EVE third-party devs.
So yea, start thinking guys. We will open up signups for this at a later day.

uhm, i was talking about killboards, and using nosql based databases to tackle the problems eve-kill had at that time.
also, i did not wear a "cowboy hat". I was wearing a Fedora.
this is me wearing a (straw) cowboy hat
this is me, (in reykjavik) wearing the fedora i was wearing during that presentation
now to the lesser important subjects, I'm not 100% certain that i will be comming to fanfest next year, but my hopes are high. If i come I'm totally fine with speaking again, and I'm open to suggestions. As many of you know i've written various libs to deal with the APIs that CCP is providing, so i could offer something about that. I've also developed some software for some of the alliances, so i could talk about that. I could also talk more generally about what tools are interesting for corps/alliances or specific tasks within the game. Again, I'm open to suggestions.
I would appreciate if you could mention how long the speaking times would be, as the short windows last time rule out quite a few subjects.

Well SOOOOOORRRY for not staring at a terrible video to figure it out. :P
I would like to have the option of both short and long sessions. Most of it will depend on what you guys offer to do. So for now assume the option of a 20 minute or 50 minute ones.

I'll be there Well, except for when I've been hijacked by CSM stuff. Or sessions I /have/ to be at.
(downside of a split platform. Industry and third party.)
Not putting in to talk though. I can't think of any subject I'm qualified to talk about, which people would actually want to listen to.

I'll be there and am happy to talk about running stuff on Google App Engine (where I run EveKit), using Google Script for Docs, etc. I do many technical presentations for my day job so I should be able to whip something up. In general, I'd like to start a dialog around moving more tools to the web, this seems like a good venue for that.

I'm not qualified to do any speaking, but I'd love to hear some of the people who've written alliance-level tools talk about the challenges related to them and such. Both the people problem and the UI problems, and heck let's toss in normal technical problems too! |

I would love to attend and even speak, but likely won't have the time to save money for FanFest 2015 :(. Maybe I can attend EVE Vegas 2015, much cheaper.

I'm attending this year. Will definitely be going to dev track talks :)
I'm not particularly qualified to talk on any subject I can think of, but I might be interested in doing a story of the messes I've made of running VOLT web services over the last few years, including the current project to make a completely new alliance system for auth, CMS, forums, mumble, etc.
What makes it potentailly relevant, is that I'm using SSO for the main login, and trying to use CREST wherever possible. Fair warning: I may be unable to conceal my feelings about available documentation of APIs...

Yeah, I was pretty sad last Fan Fest when there was no Dev Track. LIke, I nearly shed that one manly tear. Glad it will be back this year....maybe one day I'll make it to fan fest.

Well, I have to get a permanent job (maybe soonTM *cross fingers*), a new car, and get an apartment. If I get all that and there's still tickets available, I'll probably end up going. If not, it'll have to be another year.

Would people be interested in a talk (not sure on length) about using google docs custom functions, with the eve XML api?
Or is that a touch too basic?

These should all be recorded and posted on YouTube, so even if maybe a bit basic for the people in attendance, more should find it useful. :)

I don't think it's too basic if you broaden the scope a bit. I was going to propose a talk here on the general topic of using google docs for third party tooling, but maybe not as it sounds like you're already planning the same. Some of the things I think would be generally interesting:
- Ways to make API calls and keep your sanity (i.e. avoid importxml) - How to cross reference SDE data (e.g. import your dumps into spare sheets and vlookup) - Libraries for repackaging common calls - Triggers for fancier stuff, such as headless monitors, etc. - Working with CREST data (challenge: see if you can get auth'd CREST to work!)

Do people interested in presenting something need to signup as described in the dev blog, or are you organising dev track seperately? |

OK, so the time has come to begin getting serious about this. If you would like to do a presentation at this years Dev Track please send an email to [email protected] with the subject "Dev Track 2015" and the following content in the body:
- Real name and age
- In game name
- Desired length of presentation (20 or 50 minutes)
- Topic if you know
- Brief summary of the content if you know
- Anything else you think is relevant such as what EVE related projects you have worked on
The topic and summary don't have to be confirmed yet. I mainly need to start getting an idea of how much time to ask be set aside for the dev track. So if you think you would like to do a presentation, but are still debating on what content to put into it, feel free to email me now anyways so I have a general idea of how much time this could take up in the schedule.
It would be great to get an email from everyone by the end of day January 16th, but the hard deadline will be January 23rd.
