EVE is littered with abandonned POS's all over the place. While it may not be inherently taxing on the servers I can't imagine them being helpful either.
What if a POS hacking skill were created and say after a pos was left unfueled for a period of time, 2 weeks, 3 weeks maybe a month it was then able to be "hacked" with said new skill and ownership could be transfered. New owner could then use it, or dismantle it and sell off the pieces. It would really be a player dirven solution with built in incentive to clean up New Eden of all the unused trash.
I know ppl are gonna say just blow it up destroy it etc, but without any real incentive to do so we can see the result; Unused unfueled useless pos trash in just about every system in game. Again, this trash may not be inherently harmful to the servers but Im certain theyre not helping anything either. I'd even wager that this mechanism would create some explosions around the universe as well, as some enterprising individuals might prey on other enterprising individuals trying to capitalize on abandonned goodies.
It would provide explorers some new things to look for, provide an attainable source of modest income for players to access. It would be a player driven solution to cleaning up the galaxy and would likely provide some opportunities for laughs and ship explosions along the way.
IDK just a brain fart I had this morning that I thought was worth an additional smell. |

Brace yourseff...
This has been suggested before.
Brace again....
There was loads of support and a few criticisms that generally went around in circles and no one was quite sure why a definitive yay or nay wasn't forthcoming.
Last time, I promise...
Hopefully they're just waiting for POS 2.0: Even POSier
tl;dr...
It's a good idea, well done.

You can be assured that this is a good idea, and while it has been suggested MANY times in various incarnations, it remains something that everyone wants. All I can say is that we will have to wait until CCP rolls out definitive starbase changes that we can REALLY start talking about this, because at that point there will be a dialogue open with the devs. |

-1 to this crazy skills idea. There should never be a method by which the game allows you to claim a POS simply by hacking or by any other means no matter how long it has been sitting offline.
If you want a moon WD the corp and take it down forcefully. And yes I am aware of the difficulty of taking down an offline POS, I have been involved in several of them.
