I was bored tonight, so I thought I'd have a little adventure! I wanted to see how far I could get through hostile 0.0, in a pod, with no bookmarks.
Let me just say that again!
Hostile 0.0 space. In a pod. With no bookmarks.
Luckily, I didn't run into any bubbles, just the odd gate camp, one of which I managed to break up... In my pod. Yeah, that's right, I'm uber (just kidding - although I DID manage to kill 3 people in a pod once, but that's a different story). People tried to chase me, they failed... People tried to smack me - well, they succeeded, I guess, but the point is, they didn't kill me. So, after passing through 20 systems, I came to one with a station and docked for the evening.
Anyway... What's the moral of this story? Um... If you use some common sense and a little patience, there's no reason to be afraid of 0.0... Or something...

0.0 isn't very scary. It's the low sec chokepoints in and out that are.

They're not much to risk in 0.0 while in a pod.

Hey, you know you wanted our 4 vexors to go fight 3 inties, 2 cruisers, and 2 battleships .
ECM sucks when its not expected to be used against you though .

Edited by: Kybane Atreides on 14/08/2006 01:01:26 It sucks when you're flying a nice ship worth millions and you jump into a bubble with 30 ships at the gate. A pod can also instantly warp and is hard to lock. And what point is there of going into 0.0? Trying to get something accomplished is the dangerous part, example, belt hunting or mining.
Of course if you pay attention and are cautious, bookmarks, etcetera it can have only minor risk, but flying to a station in a pod is not a good test...

I keep telling you!
If a ship has more than one mid-slot, expect ECM! It's not like the Spanish Inquisition, or anything.

You know what I'd like to see? And I'm just gonna put this out there, because this forum's really boring today... *dons flame retardant suit*
Change the jump-in point to within 0km of a stargate. This way you can jump in, see a gate camp, and jump out safely.
Most people's objections to nerfing gate camps is that it prevents them from defending their territory at chokepoints. So here's a solution that lets you defend your territory while stopping you from farming people for the hell of it. And I'll bet it's unpopular for the latter reason.

Try doing it with an expensive ship and cargo and i bet things dont go as smoothly.

Thats true, once you get past the chokeopoints, its the land of cuddles and cookies.
In ASCN we invite .-A-. over all the time for tea parties and make High Command be the tea ladies with frilly pink aprons. All that stuff you heard about log-off traps, roaming gank squads and gate camp's is all lies to keep the newbies out of our cuddle factory.
...on the other hand using a banana might be a viable alternative.

Ok, that works great in 0.0
I could only imagine the lag and collisions that people would run into in places like Rens or Jita.
Of course, then again, I can only imagine how much fun a bombageddon would be on a gate where everyone spawns right next to you :D :D :D

Of course claimed territory is outright suicide to wander through solo. You're not meant to be there and if you are, there's a good chance you'll die.
But in all the time I spent in GW - unclaimed until Veritas stepped up their presence - the only time I was ever attacked was every time back and forth on the way through Molden Heath. I'd pass -10s in station systems of GW daily and wouldn't bat an eyelid, most of them were pretty friendly people just ratting or mining as well.
With all the empty systems out there, ratting was a damn sight safer than most low sec systems.

Well, I'll admit it wasn't complete coincidence that I created this thread and the SB one in the Ships & Modules forum at the same time.

I have to concur with a previous comment as well. Ive spent some time 0.0 ratting and rarely run into anyway. And if you just keep an eye on local the few times you do see someone else you can usually avoid them easily enough. Its the pipes going from 0.0 to lowsec or high sec that are the dangerous ones. I end up running into a camp 3/4s the time I try getting back out.
