So here's the question: I'm running into some gate-campers who pod me. Happened a couple times now in the last month. Yes, irritating, I know.
The particularly irksome thing to me is that I'm in a dinky Caldari destroyer, and these buffoons are tooling around in overloaded BSs. Yeah, can we hit a mosquito with a sledgehammer? Sure we can. Besides the fact it ruins my day, I'm wondering the (probably academic) question: is there *any* way a destroyer can survive in the neighborhood of an ill-intentioned BS, at least long enough to slip past and warp through the desired gate? (And for the sake of argument let's add the restriction that the destroyer in question doesn't have microwarp and doesn't want to add it for various reasons.)
I'm posting this q in this forum because I'm thinking there might be some optimal ship config that maximizes one's chances in the lopsided scenario I describe above. Or am I just SOL? I don't know.
Thoughts? opinions? strategies?

Just make instas and you should be fine

Destroyers are probably the single worst ship after haulers for surviving whilst slowboating in lowsec. You get the speed and sig radius of a cruiser with the durability of a frigate. Destroyers are fine ships in gangs where they're not taking damage, but oh my, they're fragile. Either get instas, or use a different ship.

If your concern is dying while aligning to warp after uncloaking, a Nanofiber or two should provide enough improvement.
If your concern is dying while approaching the gate, you either need to be fast enough which can not be done without a microwarpdrive or skip the approaching altogether - in other words - use instas. The latter is more reliable. ---

The more appropriate analogy in your case is : "Can we hit a morbidly obese woman with a sledgehammer?"
Turns out, that's what sledgehammers are for.

if ccp would introduce some kind of stealth module decreasing ur sig radius...maybe but atm the destroyer class vessels arent a survivable ship.
they are used for tacking down small craft in bigger engagements. if u fly a destroyer make sure ur in a gang. destroyers make a hell of a cheap frigate sniper. u can fit the cormorant for 70km+ sniping range i heard making it ideal for nailing down the occasional ceptor pirate at the gate. another option is to run lvl 2 missions with it...ok lame i know but i heard that especially new players like the destroyer alternative before training for crusiers.

you could fit a cloak, but with the money it costs to buy a cloak you muss well just buy a cruiser :P ---------------------------

Thanks for the feedback. Some useful ideas to think about. Tho maybe it's just time to hangar the dest and save it only for gang actions. I *do* like stomping frigates in it .

The corect solution is to not fly a destroyer.
