I've tried scouring through the Player News Centre archives and even Googling for information about this event that happened a few months ago, and who was on which side, but what I've come up with is brief and disjointed. Can anyone help please?

It's a Gallente Titan. I believe someone who participated in it wrote a lenghty piece about it in the events forum. You can try there.

Edited by: Suze''Rain on 07/08/2006 19:00:57 Longer version:
Aurora staff run an event of a Gallente Titan being stolen by Savador Sarpati of the Serpentis. The titan was nicked from oursulaert/luminaire region, and (very) slowly made its way towards Fountain region. it entered 0.0 as it started to get hectic, with Fountain Alliance (I think) moving to intercept and take out the force moving through their area. Not long afterward, in a twist of events, 5ive and Shinra (I think, correct me if wrong) arrived enmasse, and rather than helping defeat this 'evil menace', threw a metaphorical spanner in Aurora's plotline, by actually helping protect the titan. With the "valiant destruction of the evil serpentis ships" no longer an option, the event carried on, lasting something like 8 hours, with several pauses while the poor staff tried to work out what to do next, with the titan eventually reaching it's destination, with accusations flying all over the place about the helping out. eventually, the alliance forces who did help out got rewards off the Serpentis, the others got some rewards for trying to stop it too, I think
it was a superb example of players "taking the wrong side" (when neither side is right or wrong), in an event which did'nt forsee such an event taking place - sadly it has remained woefully under-exploited as a plot device since. Shame really, since somethig like that, with forces siding with "the bad guys" is really good for interesting storyline.
That's the best I can give from my memory, I'll admit I spent the time skulking around in a cloaked Buzzard, before running off when the traffic started getting too heavy, and deciding that watching the show was too risky.
the Short version: NPCs nick a Titan. Players turn storyline event on its head. Never trust players to do what they expected.

BoB and FIX ceasefire, and wanter up to kill titan. FA fleet wanders arround then vanishes. MC and 5 protect the tital, muttering is heard from BoB on this. Eventually titan docks and the rest of the Serps suicide attack the BoB force.
The lag was terrible.

Ahh. the Bob and FiX elements had completely slipped my memory, Maya.
or, probably I was skuilking away in-system doing my utmost not to be noticed and never followed the events clearly
I'm trying to remember when it was - must be at least 13-15 months ago now?

Those anniversary events get progressively worse each year. The first one was more or less an excuse to use Jovians, but at least it had some nice competition that involved every player in EVE. The second one was an excuse to show newbies what a Titan looks like, end ended up being a boring alliance cluster-erm.
Third one I had trouble remembering, something about a known terrorist organization getting a statue in Jita.
At this rate I'm going to be using Complex Fullerene Shards as replacement teeth, for when I get old and they fall out. Bling bling :\

How much are you purchasing those teeth grafts for, DC?
In either case, I think a reason the Aurora staff had to put a lid on it in the news was that the natural reaction for Gallente Federation would be to completely nuke all standings to the pilots involved. By "nuke" I mean faction standings, corporation standings - *EVERYTHING*. And I rather think it'd make for a serious repercusion effect towards Minmatar and Servant Sisters of EVE standings, too. After all, they did help in stealing one of the Federation's six phallos symbols, didn't they? Imagine the corporation in Brittain that'd employ the guys who stole the Big Ben. Or the french company who'd hire the guys who dismantled the Eiffel Tower... you get the picture. Dark skies torn apart Heavens open before me I, the light of death |

The players should have got what they deserved, all those who helped Serpentis SHOULD have had their standings completely nuked to hell ..... afterall, this game is meant to be all about actions and consequences.....

It would be good if Aurora could spawn 'fleets' which are dynamic:
- Have particular standings to particular organisations. Eg, so they fire upon only certain groups. - Can follow/escort routes between systems. - Which are generally more intelligent than NPC spawns.
