Hmm... Visually there seems to be a little stutter in all tests, but the results show 24, 93, 90, 53 and 38 FPS. Are you sure you get those metrics right or are my eyes lying to me?

I ran this on one of my older computers, a virtual potato, and was getting below 10 FPS on all the scenes. I think it was the first time I was actually proud of low FPS. In any case I hope you keep us up to date with the testing, especially if there are ways players can help collect better data. |

Worked well for me. The Pos scene seemed to be the worst for me. Only 20fps on 2x660 GTX
Also I love the Super firing Missiles made me laugh

I let it run while cooking dinner and it finished the download. The scenes seemed more laggy than normal gameplay on a NV660. POS was the worst at 14FPS. Oh, and maybe add a borderless window mode? I think many people will be using this mode.
In case there's more people on a slow connection, the cache folder ended up at a size of 675MB for me. Maybe this helps in guesstimating download time. |

I think i found an issue:
If you have two screen and click off of the test on to your second screen it will minimize the test. The FPS results are definitely not what you are looking for:
Here was my results during the test:
Quote:SCENE 1: controltower COMPLETE Previous run: Malloc: 274MB AVG. FPS: 17688.0
SCENE 2: festivallaunchers COMPLETE - (this was the only test I watched) Previous run: Malloc: 302MB AVG. FPS: 59.0
SCENE 3: fleet1 COMPLETE Previous run: Malloc: 64MB AVG. FPS: 26753.0
SCENE 4: fleet2 COMPLETE Previous run: Malloc: 229MB AVG. FPS: 25386.0
SCENE 5: fleet3 COMPLETE Previous run: Malloc: 115MB AVG. FPS: 25904.0 |

Thanks for trying it out! thanks for reply i however running tons of other programs in my PC, would it affect the result? or would be recommended running PROBE alone after fresh boot? Other programs may affect the performance, yes, so in general it is best to have nothing else going on. Wouldn't it be best to run the probe like we would run the client? Or are you interested only into optimal data?
CCP Snorlax wrote:Daedra Blue wrote:Do we get some nice charts with data after you get some decent pools of results?! PLS PLS PLS :D I sense a dev blog with charts in my future... About charts, can we also get a breakdown for our own performances in the results? A bit like the Metro game benchmarking tools. |

I thought it'd be somewhere in the program, but it just adds an option in the windows screensaver menu. |

The screensaver file saves to .../system32/Eve Probe.scr and should show up in the screensaver selectionscreen in Windows.

Titus Tallang wrote:The screensaver mode is awesome.
However, if you use two screens, the screensaver will stretch over both screens (good) but with the camera center being the middle, e.g. where the two screens intersect. This means that the focused ship will be "cut in half", making it less aesthetically pleasing.

What I also request, like others;
Make it possible to run multiple instances somehow (I normally have 2 going).
Also, maybe add a setting to the Probe that says something like: "system setup for gameplay" but then better versed.
When gaming I have all kinds of stuff open on my PC;
- torrent stuff - video player - huge excel sheets - access database - power tools (synergy, taskmgr, etc) - browser with huge number of tabs (including massive flash stuff)
Maybe make it possible for us to add that to the log manually when that setting is used for the test.

Mostly the video player and flash would affect the performance since they could have processes running on your GPU. Other than the most obvious that Windows would start swapping because of low memory.
Also, edit is a great thing instead of having c-c-c-c-breakers =)

eiedu wrote:Hey I've just downloaded and installed the probe on Windows 8.1 and the only thing I see is the launcher with a nice button on the bottom that says "RUNNING!" I've also tried running the probe as administrator but it doesn't give me pretty spaceships or results. What's up with that? Try opening up the Logserver first. I was having the same problem. Having logserver running seems to have convinced the EVE client to behave. |

Because I installed it on a relativly fresh installed notebook with Windows 7 64Bit and after starting eve probe nothing happens. In the taskmanager I can see the process for a few seconds but then it justs closes again. If I start the screensaver I just get a black screen. It shouldn't need EVE installed, but we may have messed something up. We'll investigate this. On my home PC it runs without a problem

Since the FPS are fluctuating wildly, I hope you are collecting more than just avg frame rate, i.e. number of frames rendered each second or render times + standard deviation. I mean, the eve client has always had dips in the fps when objects spawn or despawn on grid (or even just opening a context menu), but the stutter in Probe is even more severe.
