OK....this question is from a newb that's been mining into jetcans in high level sectors. I accept that in order to move down to more profitable space I need to go the route of secure containers.
Question.....You buy your giant secure container (with measily 3900 m3 capacity) and anchor it then go out to mine. How do you mine effectively when you move away from your can?
Do you have to keep flying back to it every couple of cycles to empty your cargo hold or are you expected to seed the entire belt with cans every 3000m? What a waste of time! Is this an attempt to make mining less boring? lol

mining in low sec realy requires friends to work with, one of you mines and another hauls (possible another protects you from best rats if you cant do it yourself.
Eve is about working in a corp with others and you will learn a miassive amount from your corporation buddies saving you having to come to the fourms.
look here -----> Linkage
Find a corp thats doign what you want to do (say a industrail corp that operates in low sec) and the game will open up for you.

What I've seen people do is anchor the can, mine until it's full, then move onto the next can, anchored 5km away with a new asteroid.
When the hauler comes, it scoops the cans, unloads them at the station and redeploys them at new locations closer to the asteroids.
Secure can mining is very tedious, which how EVE gets you towards group mining ops that are far more time efficient.

take one of those funny ore scanners and move right into the fattest bulk of the roids, you will see that asteroids in low sec space are a lot bigger than in high sec space. so you anchor that secure can in a place from which you can access lots and lots of juicy roids (hence the scanner). you can anchor 1 or several giant secures in each belt. don't forget to create bookmarks for the cans and station you want to haul the ore to so you come out of warp in range of the can to empty it (1500m) and the station to instadock. this will save you a lot of time.
once there mine away while keeping close to the can.
another thing: EVERYONEwarping into your belt in low sec is to be considered a pirate! so keep on your toes. _________________________________ just because you are not paranoid doesn't mean i'm not following!

My main has been mining in 0.2 recently using jetcans. The risk of ore theft is in his humble opinion the same or lower (due to lower traffic) than in Empire, so secure containers are not neccessarily mandatory.
Having a more quiet system with many belts helps.
I post with an alt because I know that if I were to say with my main that I mine in 0.2, some sicko would ask his location agent and find me, gank me and steal my ore just to prove me wrong.

here's how I do it: fit a tractor beam and mine in a jettisoned container that you pull with you. When you're done, move the ore from the tractored filmsy container to the anchored secure container(s)...
