is it a problem, when flying a battleship to get an increase of sig size because of MWD, given you are already at max size (on the BS I fly). I'm already above 400 m sig size, so does I get inflated damages on me because I'm at 2000 using MWD?
Or it is anyway capped at 1x, i.e every weapon does its damages without penalty due to size on me, but they get no bonus either. I hope I'm clear here |

No, you get a 500% increase -- so it'll be 400 * (1 + 5) = 2400 m sig radius.
Turret damage will be inflated a little bit from Tier 3 Attack BC and other BS, due to your now huge sig radius making it easier to track you, although really it just increases their ability to hit the "high end" of normal damage (i.e. "aimed perfectly" or whatever -- not "wrecking" shots, which are the special "critical damage" hits).
Missile damage may increase (up to the maximum paper damage / missile), although due to your increased speed, you may also be able to lessen that to a degree as you're significantly faster than the explosion velocity of the missile.
It's a game of give and take ... One of the bitter points of a good bittervet is the realisation that all those SP don't really do much, and that the newbie is having much more fun with what little he has. - Tippia |

Ok thanks, I'll prolly try that on some rats, but from what you say, it seems much less of an issue than on a smaller ship. Actually with a 800 m/s speed, I might get my damages reduces, who knows? |

Well it is not so big in PVE in PVP it can be a bigger deal especially when we start talking about capital involvement. Always willing to help all you have to do is ask, though if your in the other fleet I may not help the way you want. Just a heads up. Pub Channel: Lost Souls Trading Post |

you'll get some reduction from missiles ... from turrets not so much -- especially in missions, since by the time you're moving to reduce damage from their turrets (which, IIRC even L4 missions are weighted towards smaller ships, and only a handful of BS), you're gonna be going too fast to hit them.
Remember, your speed also affects your tracking ... and your guns still only have a 400m sigres... One of the bitter points of a good bittervet is the realisation that all those SP don't really do much, and that the newbie is having much more fun with what little he has. - Tippia |

In theory running the MWD would make you easier to hit, however in a battleship it's already approaching a situation similar to firing a shotgun at the broad side of a barn from point-blank range.
Against NPCs you may not find much of a difference in terms of damage taken beyond some of the turret-based enemies missing a bit more often than before, but beyond that I don't think things will change for you too much.
In a PVP situation, the worst you'd probably do is make it easier for ships with x-large weapons (dreadnoughts, titans) or torpedoes (bombers, some battleships) to hit you if they can track you. Maybe increase the effectiveness of fighters and fighterbombers from carriers and supercarriers too, but as I'm not a capital pilot I don't know how much more effective they would be.. Indeed, I did not thought about X Large ships. I was talking for now on about PvE l4 though. The tracking problem on my side might be serious though, as I have 4x350 mm railguns + 4x425 mm railguns equiped. Perhaps a 'move away' order at max MWD speed would negate enough the angular velocity so that the issue is not a big one. Now remains the penalty to capacitor... |

No, just NO.
Please, for the love of the spaceship god, get out of that ship and don't board it again until you have properly fitted it. Personal channel: Crazy Dutch Guy

Probably a Rokh or a Hyperion.
You should probably avoid mixing gun sizes - in most cases this is suboptimal and you are better off fitting all of the same size and meta level.
Can you paste a full list of your fit? We might be able to help you come up with something better. Morwen Lagann CEO, Tyrathlion Interstellar Owner, The Golden Masque

If you are mathematically minded, look up the tracking formula and the missile damage formula, and work out the numbers yourself. An overheated MWD and you moving at full speed will reduce incoming turret damage in most situations, an MWD on regular with you moving at full speed will keep it about neutral, but this must be balanced against the significant increased damage you take while accelerating from non-MWD speed to MWD full speed.
However, an afterburner is better than both scenarios. And even with an AB, the effect is pretty minimal if you are in a battleship.
In PVE, the defensive use of an MWD is to outrange the red crosses. You can achieve this goal much better with a microjumpdrive, in general.
Also, *please ask for fitting help* in a separate thread. We're pretty helpful here and will suggest things you can do to fix your mixed guns - before you have an embarrassing lossmail you will have to explain for years...

Unless you are about to get shot by a dreadnaught or fighter bombers.
No not really.
It may increase Torpedo damage by a little but only if you MWD and sit still. otherwise the speed will actually reduce the damage.

Thanks for the answers
So I'll post the mixed size guns question in another thread then. |
