Go to the kitchen and grab your favorite drink. Scratch that, grab two, then park yourself in front of your computer and click on the link to Code Monkey's new Dev Blog about the forthcoming Contract System. Why two drinks? You're going to be reading for a long time. Long enough that anyone making any sort of response post in the first 5 minutes of this announcement is spamming. Yes, it is that long.
As for the C.R.O.T.C.H. reference, read the blog. I'm sure this is going to be the butt of a lot of jokes.

You better clean all the bugs from that CROTCH...
And I see more people than me likes Full Metal Jacket.
Selling fitted ships is fantastic. Someone could sell pre-fitted ships or a corp could offer their members replacement ships right off the bat, ready to go, with all the equipment. Thats really nice!

no global auctions, great i have to go around 6 empire regions just to find a auction at a competitve price and maintain the travel to keep up bids and to change to a diffrent auction if the auction im involved in becomes more expensive than some where else.
and skills. frankly that just ****ing p***ed me right off. seriously do you think we have not got enogth skills to do without spending another 2 weeks just so we dont go bankrupt on market tax.
Now besides that GREAT, good ideas and perfectly peachy.

jita is going to turn into the old yulai again where EVERYTHING gets sold since this won't span regions
also a random thought, will the person's contract history get cleaned out when a char is transfered, I can just see somebody buying a char with a good history just to use it to pull off a scam

Quote: Skills There will be a few skills characters will have to acquire in order to take the contract system to its limits. Everyone will be able to have a single contract outstanding, but you need skills in order to increase that limit (to a yet undecided number). Note that this only refers to outstanding contracts. As soon as your auction is over, for example, you can create a new one. There will also be a skill or two for lowering cost of setting up contracts similar to the market.
You just had to it! 1 contract without skills is worse enough but skills needed to set it up without using the already in existance trade skills is a slap in the face.
Quote: Cost For public contracts, the cost of setting up a contract is going to be proportional to the amount money you get for successfully completing it. The cost will also increase with the amount of time your contract is visible to others up to a maximum time of 1 week or thereabouts. Private contracts will be relatively cheap with just a few coins slipped to the guy at the SCC Contracts Bureau so he doesn't misplace the paperwork.
This looks like the market which makes it useless to add BPOs to it cuz they would cost the one setting it up billions.
Quote: Filtering We will have some pretty nifty filtering to allow you to find the contract that you want. It's an impossible task to wade through thousands of contracts in search of that one item or contract without these things! You will, for example, get rid of those nasty contract spammers (yes, I'm sure we'll get some) by ignoring them for good!
About time.
Overall, I¦m abit disapointed with it. I was expecting a service that could be used eve-wide with the pilot to select the part of space where he wants to see escrows. Similar to what it is now, just better.

I've been surviving just fine without the accounting trade skill, so I'm sure the contract skill won't be necessary anyways. Also who's to say that they won't just use existing trade skills as a base with 1 or 2 new ones for those who choose to specialise.
Overall the new contract system looks to kick some major ass. Can't wait to try it out.

I can see a few systems/regions being designated escrow hubs and will become even more crowded. If the current way of global escrows being viewable for a short time can be incorporated into the new system, please do it.
And please no more skills!! You're driving me bonkers.

Could a payment system be added in as well? Ie, put a dread up for sale for 20 weekly payments of 100mil? I guess I don't really understand what happens when you don't pay, though, so I don't know if it's feasible. It looks like all the seller would get is the collateral, so that might not work. ---

great to finally see something more concreet with the contract system, don`t dare to not release it in the first kali release or we`ll come to iceland, steal the code and implement it ourselfs

There is a major problem with this as described if the contracts can't be limited to alliance members. Currently, putting cheap stuff on the market in 0.0 conq stations is a bad idea, since enemies can fly into the region and buy it all and resell it at a higher price. The current way to avoid this is via escrows limited to alliance members only. If we can not do this with the first version of the contract system it will be a big problem.
Alternatly, if we can make contracts only visible in one system or station that might be enough to get by.
The best solution would be to make standings effect if people can buy and sell off the market, but that doesn't seem likely to show up anytime soon.

Perhaps read the devblog more carefully:
Quote: No global contracts
You will not be able to create global contracts. You can assign a contract to any (PC) corporation or character (as well as your own alliance) or have it publicly available in the region where it begins. As such, players will not be able to view public contracts in another region. However, if you set your availability to a corporation, the contract will be viewable by members of that corp wherever they happen to be.

Was going well until you mentioned limited numbers and regions only.
Faction item market's going to implode to the hubs, the only real way to sell outside that is the trade channels which a lot of people - including me - hate and so you're utterly SOL.
Time to get out the rare item business. The market's painful enough without dealign with what's essentially a fixed replica (because auctions which are basically "buy it now" are what will be used for the majority...)

Non global quite sucks. Does that also mean we can't ENTER contracts from another region? So all those things I have sitting 50 jumps into 0.0 I won't be able to escrow away without actually flying there? That's hugely disappointing and really a game killer there.
Skills... not happy with that to be honest, nor with the cost scales with how much you get feature.
I'm also a little confused with how courier missions are doing to work. Am I reading it correctly in that Guy puts in a courier mission for 5 million ISK down, 1 million ISK on completion. You then come along, pick up the cargo paying the 5 million ISK, deliver the cargo... then you have to wait till Guy shows up online in order to complete the mission for you to get your 6 million ISK back? That seems deeply abusable. I just can't see doing courier missions if I don't know when/if I'll ever get my collatral back regardless of how well I do with the mission.
Am I just confused about all this or? Looks pretty, but there's some pretty important concerns I'm seeing with that system as presented. -- Lil Miner Newbie Skills Roadmap | Visual Building Guide (Both work in game too!) |

The region limitation is a tad annoying, but given how borked escrow is in visibility of items anyway, its probably a blessing in disguise.
Everything else seems great to me. You could even be a contractor by way of mini-profession with the reputations system.
I'm really looking forward to this ================

Looks good, can't wait!
Also how about public loans, we could have corps that operate as loan sharks. You lend out a lump sum of isks and they pay it back in instalments over a period of time with interest. If they fail to pay you back the isks then you just create a bounty contract to either retrieve your isks or kill them for not paying :)

sneaky way of further reducing global sales.
Will be appreciated by the corps looking for greater control of sales, annoying for the part time auctioneers tho. -----------------------------------------------
