There is a new blog available, but it is more along the lines of a classic blog sharing some insight into the Developer known as Redundancy, rather than a look at what is looming on EVE's horizon. Start with a conference, add some industry trends, anime and recognition, and you end up with 'Oh I do like to be beside the Seaside...'
Discussion here.

Thanks for the 'blog'. Concerning your last comment, I would LOVE to see data/speculation/comments on the economics of EVE. For some, the political and economic aspects of the game are far more interesting than the PvP side of things.

Interesting blog, Red. That article from Develop makes good reading. I am still of the opinion that the first of the uber-MMO's, the ones which will take the entire planet by storm and have everyone playing them, has yet to be developed. Eve certainly isn't it but there are elements in this thing which may have some interesting effects on the way MMOs are created in the future.
Number one, of course, is the economic model. Everyone who plays it knows that you devs have utterly screwed it up ona regular basis, what with the way you handled infinite BPCs at go live and then following up with the mind-bogglingly awful Tech 2 lottery, and yet there are some wonderful things happening out there now. The tech 2 component tree and the outpost capabilities seem to have really kicked everything into overdrive. Big props to you guys for that.
So yeah, please do post up some info on the game economics. It'd be very interesting to see what is happening from a global statistcis PoV.

Following a link from the Develop article I came across a wonderful chart showing how variou MMOs have been fairing with respect to their subscriber numbers. Take a look at this!
Just look at that curve for Eve! Everything else spooges up quickly then falls in a hurry. Eve's progress is steady and relentless!
Damn nice

Its nice to read opinion occasionally, as it stimulates the thought process, and in this case makes one think in areas I had not considered previously.
A blog feature exported economic data, that would prove very interesting, perhaps not in any game changing way, but in more of a 'incredible information' way.

I would absolutely love this.
How about "total ISK in EVE"?
How about "medium ISK in EVE" and "graph of number of people vs wallet sizes"?
How about "total damage control Is traded each day"?

Edited by: Xenex McScott on 18/07/2006 19:42:01 Considering the pretty complex market in Eve seeing some economic stats would be pretty awesome. Also seeing how the new things for Kali might affect that delicate economic balance might be pretty interesting to see as well.
Quick questions:
How, compared to other MMOs such as Everquest I and II and Galaxies, do you see Eve's economy compared to them in terms of depth and complexity?
Besides the tidbits we've already heard for Kali, are there any less obvious changes to the market/economy of Eve that we won't be hearing about as much?
How often and what do you all have to do to keep an economy like this functioning properly? Or do you do anything at all? In the real world even the government has to intervene to keep prices reasonable sometimes, is that done in Eve? The only time I could think of it was the "Tools" BPOs being released and the possible changes to the T2 BPO market but those are secondary effects of the economy I believe and not the primary market created by the Designers. But I could be way off in my theories.
Just curious
Have a great one and thanks for the blog Redundancy!
edit...I got to post after Dark Shikari! I'm excited!!! First time I've ever gotten to do that! |

Yes, please blog about in-game economics!
It is a very interesting topic about which very little data can be gathered without access to inside information. (Though eve-central.com is much appreciated.)
Thanks for this blog, also. It's good to know that dev tools are being updated -- a sign of a healthy development process.

I thought that the Develop article seemed to me to be mostly marketing hype for things I'm not sure I want to buy into... but I'm willing to be persuaded provided the argument is sound.
And information on the economics of Eve would certainly be interesting reading.
Interesting times await... |

The metrics for EVE on that chart are accurate, Hellmar sends an update to Sir Bruce on a semi-regular basis. Then again, CCP has something to brag a little about.

Yeah, like to see the numbers too if that is possible.
I'd have to agree with Sabahl though, with regards to Eve's economy. It is the economy in this game that has some fundamental problems that are difficult, if not impossible, to fix. Tech 1 versus named items, tech 2 lottery, production of tech 1 ships and modules. Here is hoping to Tech 3 and ship & module alterations helps fixes the problem in the past. ___________________

You know, I never actually saw Appleseed 2004. I saw the trailers and they looked spiffy, but never the movie itself. How was it? --- What good are actions if there's no one to tell the tale afterward?...
