If CCP announced a walking on planets expansion, the overvocal mouthbreathers would just throw another tantrum and shoot it down like they did with Incarna/WiS. Maybe throw in a few references to 'WoW in space' or that CCP is trying to be LucasArts or somesuch nonsense.
As much as I would love to see new gameplay opportunities like Incarna or planetary interaction (real interaction, not just the planet mining we have now), with the state they were forced to leave previous attempts to innovate in would you trust CCP to actually deliver a worthwhile and complete planetary interation expansion?
Most likely I'd land on a planet with my hopes and dreams ahead of me, imagining the possibilities of what I could accomplish in this new environment. I'd step out of our vessel to an amazing view of a BladeRunner-esque dystopia, steam rising from vents that provide a little warmth and makes my skin moist.
Despite this I feel my palms sweating as I scan the shadows and alleyways in anticipation of being accosted or mugged. My pulse races as I near my goal: a seedy strip club that I've agreed to meet my contact in. Approaching the door, pulse rising and alert for treachery I take a deep breath, grip the rusty handle and turn.
The door doesn't open. Too late I notice a poster of CCP Fozzie's face on the wall. The words burn into my mind, "Get back in space you noob and lose your freighters lololol"
I cry. |

It wouldn't even fall gracefully. It'd be a kind of docking I guess. Grab potatoe. Throw potatoe. Dominix flying through atmosphere. Catch potato with oven mitt. Enjoy delicious atmosphere baked potato. Now someone go and calculate what height we need to drop potatoes to have them finished when we catch them. https://what-if.xkcd.com/28/ may be of interest Not directly relevant, but... +1 for XKCD

From what I have seen, Eve ships are not capable of interacting with planets. They must be out of phase or something, they just fly right through them. Until the Jove tell us how to fix this I fear we will never be able to dock on planets.

It is a bit rubbish you keep blue barring loads of rubbish threads with non-posts. At least try to answer a question now and again please and lower your 'must-post-sarcasm' threshold a tad. Cheers. |

Or are our spaceships incapable of atmospheric flight limiting it to small "winged" spacecraft only?
If you want to dock/land on planets, look to Star Citizen. You'll be able to do that there. Planets and moons in EVE are hollow. I have a lot of safe spots inside planets and moons. Thats the closest you'll ever get unless they have that in Valkrie. |

Or are our spaceships incapable of atmospheric flight limiting it to small "winged" spacecraft only? I believe that according to the lore tritanium cannot exist in atmospheric environments. So they'd all just explode. This is true for raw tritanium, but it's alloyed in starship manufacturing. Did the Titan that crashed on Caldari Prime explode? Yes. Into itty bitty pieces. Thus the devastation.
Only because it got shot a lot, and crashed. Its journey through the atmosphere, to the ground, didn't seem to increase the damage beyond what was already done, until the impact. You don't scare me. I've been to Jita.

I just want to be able to lure WT's into the atmosphere of a gas giant, ignite the hydrogen with my warp nacelles and watch their asses go down in flames.
Another "Good Idea" (TM)... so not holding my breath.

Technically yes, albeit super ******* dangerous. Lore wise ships have entered and been in atmosphere. my favorite example was during the Events that lead to the initial deployment and then capture of Templar One. An imperial Revelation dreadnought came into high atmosphere for a pin-point precision firing run on Matari targets that were protected by the mountains, and not able to be hit from orbit. This revelation got a few rounds off but a 'Legion Drake that was working as a contractor for the Matari soldiers on the ground engaged it , and as missiles slammed into it it lost it's balance and crumbled under it's own weight, smashing into the surface. Mordu enjoyed this feat so much he made a hat of it. I'm not joking.
The same thing was attempted by a capsuleer flying a moros which had greater success due to a capsuleers superior abilities, but even the moros went down after sustaining fire.
There is a Concord cruiser floating above a city in one of the rubicon trailers as well.
What i find to be a good example though is this official concept art of the warbarge, which contains a 3D map. the map shows a Caldari MCC over a battle, with a Ferox holding close to it. Closing in from the right is a Gallente Thorax flanked by two atrons.

... wants to be able to fly / land / crash a dropship full of gun-toting good ol' boys in "Legion"... successfully or unsuccessfully... not fussy, I'll keep doing it until I get it right because I'm immortal and the grunts are expendable.

CCP should dump PI completely.
Then when you go into Planetary Mode, it will start a game of Civilization. Of course, somebody may already be playing.. .. when everything else is gone .. |

But maybe they make the Jita moon at the trade hub into the station. It would definitely be fitting to the amount of stuff in there and the activity on the station. To be fair, it was shot to hell. On the other hand, this is yet another way proving Gallente superiority. Yes, the Wandering Saint *only* slammed into an Ishukone station, but that Caldari Titan crashed into a PLANET! OUR Titans can avoid planets, thank you very much. :D OUR "titans" are SOOOOO BIIIIIG ... I still prefer the Avatar. * cough *
