Goons have the numbers (and pilots with decent ship skills) to hold their own in a lot of fights.
Go fight them with your smartbombing whatever. Enjoy the trip to the clone station.
Where I think the swarm is lacking is in organization and commitment. Feel free to prove me wrong though.
In actual truth, smartbombs do still work on them, and will always play a part in fighting goonfleet, as long as they have a large number of frigs / cruisers. Good fight Goonfleet, and thumbs up for jumping in!

goonies rock!
tbh.. i dont see a problem with them..
the first allianbces in 0.0 when the game started used frigates.. and other t1 crap..
give the goonies some time..
there dedication.. investments.. and wilingness to survive will prove what they are.
if they can muster 50 frigates now.. what will they do in a few months time?
80 Battleships maybe? there numbers and noobs.. will soon get experaince.. tactics and become good at pvp :D

BoB forum victory propaganda perfectly strikes Alliance Discussion forum for 1337 points of chest beating.
Honestly, what is so hard about keeping a thread on topic these days?
As for the actual topic, as long as the goons are having fun I don't think they care what anyone else thinks tbh.
Have fun goonies~ |

I don't, and doubt many people in ASCN do either....or maybe even the goonies, for that matter.

Both lose around the same number of ships in a fight.

We are, but it was relevant.. The questions outlined here: 1. Are goons the new superpower? 2. Are numbers more relevant to fleet fights than experience?
Over the weekend Goonfleet and BoB had an engagement, which goes part way to answering adleast the second question.
FYI. None of us believe it was a serious incursion, just a bit of fun for both sides. Props to Goons for bringing it all the way to NOL, and then jumping in.

Thats the right attitude, I still die and learn something new every week. Last weeks one was "make sure the spot you're aligned too, is actually the direction you plan on warping out". :)

The problem is that they probably won't be able to keep their pilots in the alliance. Dying a lot doesn't mean you learn a lot. There is a good reason why people don't stay in SWA, that's the same reason why Goons won't be able to keep their pilots in it. They will want to try something new, not just being part of some 100 man fleet that tries to lag people to death. They have too many rookies and the more experienced players will either be tired of helping them or just not helping them at all, the players will feel left out or just bored beacause they learn nothing and just die in meaningless battles.
And even considering Goons to be a powerhouse is just ridicilous, all they have shown so far is how to fill everyones killboards with their ships and how diplomacy should not be handled. That's not a very good start i think.

I don't think the Goonies will be the next superpower. They will have difficulty retaining their more experinced pilots with them as vets tend to stick together, ignoring "stupid n00bs" with their needs. The next thing is that in order to be a superpower, you'll need to control space and have a POS network with capital ship program. If goonies will start to build that network it'll get annihilated by anyone who can jump with more than 5 dreads with support fleet. So, my verdict is no. Time for new superpowers is over, and it was over for quite some time already.

Edited by: Quebber on 19/06/2006 11:36:12 Goonies will collapse as soon as they get bogged down against a small well skills and able corp, or alliance. Plus Goon's are slow in moving their fleet because of undiciplin, and oftern have staglers who are easy targets, for the picking! Once bogged down in war, they will collapse into themselves, have leadership contests and problems, and then simpletely fall apart.
As for BoB, eventually they will kill themselves through over expansion. You see they are in a catch 22, carry expansion, and the same will happen as with the Roman empire when they took over most of europe, small groups of barbarians could easily do raids, and the empire was too big to protect. Or stop expansion, and then collapse inside its self as bob members are totally geared towards war, and prob will leave if they ran out of targets.
There are already holes appearing in bob, for example a couple of months ago a small corp went into bob space, destroyed and looted from 1 of its offline pos, and bob was nowhere to be seen. Things like this will happen much more often.
Super alliances are unsustainable, they either explode or implode, its just a matter of time.

As far as what you said about Goonies, I tend to agree that it's the likely outcome. Someone mentioned earlier that the time for new superpowers to be created has passed, and I believe that's also true. The only real threat to the super powers is coalitions of alliances that build up under the raider, as no single entity is likely to be allowed to build up.
In regards to BoB, I think you underestimate our leadership, that's as straight forward as I can put it.
* Bob are not huge in numbers, in comparison to some of the other large alliances. We also don't expand quickly. * BoB do not handle day to day running of all controlled regions. We have trusted friends living there for that. * BoB leadership realise that we need people to fight constantly. There are many enemies that we respect and enjoy fighting, and there are 100,000+ people in EVE.. I don't see a shortage of targets any time soon.
As for the offline POS, Im really not sure what the point is here. Don't get me wrong, before I was in BoB, I would have been proud of myself for doing it as well. However, looting an offline POS while we are on a road trip is hardly the sign of an imploding alliance :) It may however be a sign of early onset alzheimer's for one of the BoB industrialists
EDIT: Btw. What you describe would be more likely to happen the larger an alliance got in numbers. BoB is actually the smallest of the superpowers, even Huzzuh is bigger than us.
