If I had made my choice of character completely by myself, I'd probably have made it a sebestior.

One patch of Minnie lub and you start a thread like this.. Its not like they made us unbalanced or anyhting.
The Typhoon is still a hard ship to "Get", even tho i belive i did it ;) The Tempest and our cruisers stay the same. And we now have 2 af's. Like the other races. www.eve-files.com/media/0602/CCP_tharim.gif[/IMG]

I choose Minmatar because I fell in love with projectiles. I also liked their back story far better then others. Plus I had already played a similar character of the same name in another game, a Progen Warrior in Earth and Beyond. I have recently started specializing in Gallente as well to get some more varied combat, works RP wise too since they are our allies. Minmatar ships are some of the most versatile in the game, but I needed the best close range ships in the game :) Minmatar ships take the most skills in game to fly correctly and a lot more attention during fights then other races. They are amazing vessels when everything goes well, they can't tank as well as Caldari or Amarr, they can't hit as hard as Gallente do up close, and they can't do as much damage over time as Gallente long range. However with the right setup and the right pilot they can pretty much do everything. I currently have excellent gunnery skills, good drone skills, good missile skills, excellent armor tanking skills, decent shield tanking skills, and still a lot more to train :(.
I am not surprised there are not a lot of Minmatar in game though, having been in game when the Ammatar(Projectiles on amarr ships, ewww...) nerf went in and mistakenly(I would hope) bashed into minmatar ships hard. Plus starting out Minmatar frigates are great, but our cruisers and battleships are nearly impossible to fly. The lure of missiles since there is little learning curve. Turret Tracking and learning all the ins and outs of falloff/optimal range. My favorite, having to go through A LOT of ships before you get setups that work.

Typhoon is a hard ship to look at.... I sold mine and haven't flown it again.... its just too ugly.... not to mention expensive for a tier 1 ship...

Don't agree that the Minmatar is something negative. The first char I made in EVE was a Minmatar Brutor, because of the race and bloodline description and the look.
Minmatar pros: - underdog - fight for freedom and rights
Brutor pros: - strongwilled - great sense of individualty - great situational awareness - don't like wasting time, prefer to focus on the task - they look very tough and strong and wear cool sunglasses
And minnies fly fast and agile ships. In my eyes it's really a nice race.
For some time I switched to caldari for lvl. 4 mission running, especially when torps killed everything without needing millions of SP. My Raven a lot more power than the Typhoon I used before.
Now, with this Minnie and better minni-skills, t2 large guns and not so big problems to fit a ship, how I like, I enjoy the race more and more. And in the typical long-range fleet battles it doesn't make a big difference anyway, if I fly mega, tempest or apoc. I don't think Minmatar is uber, but I can brag with the highest wrecking hits with tech-2 ammo compared to the other races.
edit: btw. I've got 4 trained chars: 3 minmatars, 1 gallente

I chose Minmatar because I liked the idea of no-fuss underdog. And I liked the horns i get on my face
Although I dont actually fly minmatar ships, I am gallente specialized
Also I refuse to fly caldari ships too, disgusting things, the only caldari ship skill i have is caldari frigate 2, haha

Caldari=America Gallente=Europe
Hard choice there
I actually like the way Caldari ships look, at least some of them. And I would have few qualms about playing the most overpowered characters in the game (have I been messing around with setting up an achura alt ... yes, yes I have). But the Gallente have the best desription (democracy FTW), and aren't the obvious choice for the more mindless players (I are teh l33t raven pilot etc). So Intaki it is for me. Minmatar were, and to a degree still are, jack of all trades. When I started, the missiles were still zealously powerful which added extra punch to the minmatar so it was easier to get more out of them (I was flying a typhoon with nothing but torpedo skills for about 2-3 months and still managed to hold my own in a number of battles).
Now, many moons on, various things have changed but the minmatar remain the general under dogs... at least as far as newer players go. Jack of all trades is a nice concept but it does sometimes need a heck of a lot more skills and patience to use effectively. But that said, after months of development and growth in eve I wouldn't change my charactor choice for anything else (although a hair growth implant might be nice once in a while).

My character started with Gallente, I liked the idea of a fairly even minded group in terms of character (democracy and all that) but out flying in my thorax one day I was passed by this ship that just looked soooo cool. The pilot also had a bounty, the first I'd seen on someone (it was Lord Zap but didnt have a clue who he was at the time). So I looked up the ship and sure enopugh, it was minmatar, a rifter.
That was it, goodbye gallente, hello rifters...
The more I played them the more I struggled early on, my ships didnt seem to hit very well, they werent very strong and mining was tricky in them (mining was THE thing to do when I started :D). Gradually things improved as my skills got better and I began to enjoy flying these wierd looking desgins that hit so hard and fitted so many guns
Part of it is, I guess, the underdog thing that as an English person I am culture bound to support () but I also like the idea of fighting for freedom from the slave race. Ive flown every race except amarr and I guess I wont ever fly them on principle.
Minmatar are cool, they just take a bit of time to understand and get the best from their wierd setups and strange tactics...

When I first started playing Eve I saw "Artillery" and had to have it!
Visions of this "AC-130 Spectre - This C-130 is specially equipped with a twin 20mm Vulcan Canon, 40mm Bofors Canon, 105mm Howitzer, and a 25mm Gatling Gun." danced in my head through character creation.
My friend started as Gallente, and I soon realized that while I was getting 120 point hits, he was getting 4-5 40 point hits from his rails, but I'm a stubborn one, and besides, I only needed a civ shield booster(rarely two civ boosters) for my rifter and stabber till I hit level 3's(overdrives <3).
Anyways, who can resist the Sunglasses? Sig removed, killed by non uniform font letter sizing.

As for the ships....well I went as trained all races Battlecruisers.....and then Amarr Battleships.
Guess what I'm doing now?
Yup...back to training Minmater BS's, I deeply miss the clatter of autocannon fire. I'm also pretty much roleplaying my characters wallet indirectly. I'm always ISKless. Was trying to sell copies of the "Big Issue" in Jita last night to raise ISK for a Tempest.

Well,i'm playing no favorites here when it comes to races, and i've been pretty much training ship related skills for all races exclusively for nearly the last 3 years now,so at nearly 46.5 million skill points,i can say that i'm pretty well rounded overall...
This however doesn't mean that there still isn't quite a few skills left to train, but the vast majority of what i needed to train is now well behind me at this point(still another 15~20 million sp left to train though),and pretty much makes me immune to any changes/nerfs that the devs decide to apply to any given race,on any given time...
Once those extra 20 million sp are trained however,i'll have the capability to fly all races right up carriers and dreads...
