I use my Rapier as a multipurpose tool kit, scout, tackler and anti-frig. If I was sure every time that the enemy did not have a gank squad lurking round the corner, or that there is an interdictor behind the next gate, or that friendly ships would make it in time when a target had been caught, I would love to fly the "ideal" Rapier setup.
Buy a huginn/vaga/inty?, it tanks alot better and it can do all of what your asking for. If you have a gang with you all you'd need to do is provide the warp in. When in a gang ships dont have to multi-task theyd have defined roles.

I ran into a pair of rapiers last week that were using a nice setup - covops cloak, arties, mwd, webbers, and sensor dampeners. When webbed and damped, the pilot could get out of my damped locking range very quickly with the mwd, then cloak. Rather clever I think. I'm not sure if this is a common set up or not as I don't fly minmatar, but I thought I'd post it just the same.

I can use t2 medium hybrids but not t2 medium projectiles. So should i fit 720mm howitzers t1 or 250mm railguns t2 on my rapier? ( will the bonus make up for t1 howitzers or will t2 rails do more dps?)

I have been testing a few set ups for my rapier on some corp mates. The ship itself is really a support ship so I feel that equiping it to do anything else but that seems a bit pointless. The main reason anyone would buy it is for the cloak ability.
Lets put it this way, in a large engagement this ships role would be to warp in cloaked (Tech 2 cloaker) and then de-cloak and cause as much disruption in the enemy fleet so that the bigger guns can lay them to waste.
I found that fitting web, and warp scramblers are essential as well as ECM to break locks from enemy ships, not just for your corp mates but also for your own protection. I tried racial and multi spec ECM and both have their advantage. It helps if you know what ships you are going against I suppose, but the frustration on the other ship when you warp in de-cloak, jamm, scramble web etc and then when they do get lock, you break again with back up ECM and cloak. Do this a couple of times and they will soon give up on locking you or be blown away by your corp mates. If you time it right you can do this for a long time without the need for cap battery's etc.
If anyone has any suggestions on what to fit in high slots apart from turrets then please let me know, I have started playing round with smart bombs for the pesky drones that come in!

Edited by: Naqisaki on 29/01/2007 20:54:46 Edited by: Naqisaki on 29/01/2007 20:52:40 I'm having issues with the med slot setup.
First of all, I want the following modules, 2x 90% web (using 14k), 1x24k scram, 1x mwd, but I'm at a loss for the other slots. I can't decide between sensor booster, damps or target painter. I want to use the target painter because of the bonus, but sensor booster or damp?
Sensor booster seems a bit of a waste.

High:
3 720 T2 Arty's I run plasma ammo for the 20-25km range kill 1 CoC
Med; 1 24k Scram 2 90% webbers 1 SB T2 1 Phased Painter 1 Large Named/T2 shield extender or 2 24k Scram 2 90% Webbers 1 SB T2 1 Phased Painter or 1 24k Scram 2 90% webbers 1 SB T2 1 Phased Painter 1 Dampener or disruptor, your choice
Low;
3 Gyro's T2 1 T2 power diag or 3 Gyro's T2 1 sig Amp
As you can tell it is mainly for solo pvp etc.. I have even taken out the Power diag and put in a overdrive injec for speed. honestly, there is no reason to run a power diag or a RCU unless you don't have the skills to make it fit. 95% of your fights are not going to last that long to worry about cap regen yada..yada.. so, fit for damage, speed or fast lock. The sig amp helps out for frigate/shuttle locks..etc. There is no point in running a shield booster or armor rep, this ship isn't made for that. You orbit at the 20-24km warp scram range and let the cannons rock. You can tackle various BC's, if you have a dampener, disruptor..or maybe even a jammer..so pick your targets well. . |

Anyone try 3 remote sensor damps?
High: 1 Cloak, 3 720 T2 Mid: 2 Webbers, 1 warp scram, 3 Phased Muon Damps Low: 1 RCU, Local Hull Overdrive, 2 Gyrostab 2s
This set with Signal Suppression at L4 can dampen battleships to less than 15km. Stay at 18km and nothing will hit you.
Only ships to watch out for are other Force Recons, Scorpion, and a couple of other long range targeting ships. (watch out for sensor boosters too).

You shouldn't need an RCU to fit a rapier train advanced weapon upgrades.
2 damps + 2 rigs + *MWD* > 3 damps any day of the week just wait till you hit a bubble camp.

I don't get the AC setups - what's the point of being able to dictate range if you have to be within auto range? Your margin of effectiveness, even with Barrage, can't be that great. Or can it? What sort of tactics are you using?

I just bought my rapier 2 days ago even if i got skillz since a while and i figured out this fitting .. HIGH SLOTS : 1x COVOPS II 3x 425mm II
MED SLOTS: 1x Domination 10mn MWD 1x TS Stasis Webifier 1x DB Stasis Webifier 1x TS Warp disruptor 2x LSE II
LOW SLOTS:
2x Overdrive injector II 2x Gyro II 1x DCU II
RIGS: 1x Poly 1x Cap
I use this and i can mwd at 3.5K even more with implants, orbit at 22km at beginning of the fight then after webbing down the target you can easily come closer and orbit 12-14 km of it.... I use a TS and DB web but 2 domination Web is much better ... For med slots you can exit a LSE II for a SB II easily and for the low slots you can remove the DCU II for a Nano II. For the rigs you can go for 2 poly but i got some problems with capa if i dont put a capa rigs .. I think having Recon Ships at 5 is worth it ... I didnt calculate my dps but even with drones isn't that good even if i got good skills in gunnery .... but for tackling in low sec pvp ( not fleet fight ) its the best .... --------------- - " Hi sir , please wire me 10M and you free" / " You m***** f***** , b**** , I f***** your mom !!!" / " Oki fly safe " (Your security status have been adjusted^^) |

Im quite new to pvp and wouldnt mind asking a couple of questions, sorry if they seem silly hehe.
Basically im under the impression with this setup that i would do the following 1 vs 1. De-cloak at around 25km. Use warp disruptor and double web the target. Then orbit the target at around 22km. Pew Pew until dead. What should i then watch out for or do in most situations?
Wondered if theres more to it that this for your average ship target? I wanted to also know if i should have mwd running all the time or only use mwd if i need to get out quick? If i use mwd am i actually easier or harder to hit? With mwd active i travel at 3k m/s without 300 m/s. I know using mwd makes you a bigger target but will the speed mean i cant get hit. Without mwd will i be hit a lot as im only travelling at 300 m/s?
If this tactic is somewhat correct to i have to change if for different ship classes?
Again sorry for some silly questions.

You have to be extremely picky with your targets. At 22km range, BS nos/neut will still reach to you (even though you have passive tank, it will mess up your web/point and MWD). Drones will get to you. Missiles will hit you. But you will be able to escape due to the web bonus. Drones can be killed though, just use your own drones and one web.
Smaller targets (frigs, destroyers, T1 cruisers) should be killable, BS tank might become tricky.
MWD is good for escaping. Not suggesting to use it on orbit, your own tracking will be weak.
What you might think about, is the use of ECM drones.

So many 720 setups and some very strange ones too. . .
Anyway my setup:
3 650II, Covert Ops Cloak 10MN MWDII, Warp Disruptor II, 3 Statsis Webifier II (or 2 web/1 Target painter II depending on gang composition), 1 Large Shield Extender II 2 Nano II, 1 Overdrive II, 1 Cap Power Relay II
Rigs: Kenetic Screen and Core Defense Field Extender
I think this is pretty basic/standard - but it works well for me. -----------

This would have been valid prior to damp balance. The only one crying will be you when this setup goes bang after being hit with heavy neuts and heavy guns as your damps will not be enough to shut down most BS/BC to below even faction scram range.
But wait you say....you'll use EWAR drones. Yes...that and the awesome DPS from the three popguns will leave your targets in tears of laughter .
Sorry...it just doesn't work that way anymore.

My Rapier set up for 0.0 small gangs/solo roaming:
Highs: 3 x 650mm Artillery (I use T2 guns, but not T2 ammo, so T2 guns aren't necessary) 1 Covert Ops Cloak. If you can't use the covert ops cloak, don't fly a rapier - fly a huggie instead. Being able to warp around cloaked is one of the rapier's main strengths.
Meds: 2 x Web II 1 x Warp Disruptor II/Target Painter/Web II 1 x 10MN MWD II 2 x Sensor Booster II
Lows: 2 x Overdrive Injector II 2 x Nanofiber Conversion II
I don't use rigs for PvP.
Notes:
Depending on the role, I will fit either 2 webs and a point, 2 webs and a paint, or all 3 webs. Obviously when soloing you need the point. Ship travels at around 3,500 m/s with the MWD on, about 400 m/s otherwise. A rapier really shines when mixed with other force recons - a small gang of one arazu, one falcon, and one rapier can easily take on a bigger gang. In low sec fighting, just go chill at a belt and then pop ratters as they cycle through the belts. If you can, have a buddy in a cov ops with probes, and you can squish mission runners too. If things get hectic, web your harasser, MWD out of targeting range, and cloak up.
I love my rapier

I've been flying around with my rapier for a while now, killed a few ships together with a Caldari Recon...
I read this thread a few times, and I'm wondering why so few people use the recon probe launcher on the rapier. A lot setups here are for solo ganking, as you guys say... Ofcourse you need the damage on the Rapier, but if you replace 1 gun for a recon probe launcher you can find people on safespots..
So, why no recon probe launcher?

It's somewhat common to fit them on the Rapier. Part of the reason you may not be seeing them in this thread is that so many of the posts are really old. * * * In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move.
