You knoq CCP a digital that would be a crazy idea. I mean you did a great monumnet for the first titan pop and an even better one for B-5R what about something like this. A 1.0 system that allows no combat just for a tribute to the players and of EVE. Something different and very large where you could type in your name and warp to it. Aluminium oxide is much harder at about 8.5-9 Mohs, but it's a thin layer anchored in unoxidized aluminium, which will give way more easily. Meanwhile, The stainless steel keys pretty much everybody carries in their pocket on the other hand are more like a 5 or 6. the same goes for the rivets in your jeans, your nickel-steel belt buckle, or heck a common piece of grit or gravel stuck in your shoe. So, anodized Aluminium wasn't chosen for its hardness: it was chosen for its corrosion-resistance. Iceland is a wet country and freezing cold a lot of the time. Also, the monument is parked right next to the ocean and there is NOTHING quite like salt water for reliably corroding things. Rust is a landscape feature where the sea is involved. A few scuffs and abrasions won't badly reduce the legibility of the names, but corroding away into a mess of mineral salts and oxides would ruin all the plates, and surprisingly fast. While there probably IS something out there that could resist both the salt-water splashing of a high tide in bad weather AND the clothing of people closely inspecting the monument (or of idiots who think their internet spaceships vendetta is worth vandalising a public monument for), I doubt that substance is inexpensive. Although it would be kind of fitting to have made the plates out of Titanium Diboride just like a Caldari ship, I guess.
Also not extremely expensive compared to other anti-corrosion metals right? -The Gene Pool Could Use a Little Chlorine!! Proud Member of the Flying Dead/Bloodline

It's the monument's own fault for not flying aligned, or did not fit a tank. Most people viewed Orwell's writings as a warning. The harper regime and the goons treat them as a guidebook. |

I think it would be interesting if we could get a look at the number of players who have left the game due to arrest and conviction for crimes. I think that a lot of you might be surprised, if what I personally think would be the case turns out to be true. |

I've seen many comments as to the fact that they don't see why anybody is making a big deal out of this, and have also expressed that they find it absurd that anybody thinks the individual who did it should face criminal charges.
The act was indeed criminal, and the perpetrator deserves to face the full consequence of his or her childish and selfish act of vandalism.
1. The monument, which sits within Reykjavik harbor was donated to and now owned by the city. This alone means that the crime in itself is even worse than had it been a simple case of vandalizing CCP's private property.
2. The monument not only has the names of those alive and active within the game, but includes capsuleers that have passed away in the real world under various circumstances. Even though the name scratched off of the monument is not one of these individuals, the offense is still just the same by the simple fact that they ARE ON IT and part of it as a whole. It wouldn't be a stretch to think that some of these people have friends and family that are in fact upset over this.
And they have every right to be if that is the case.
3. The monument was designed by the renowned artist Sigurdur Gudmundsson. Whether you agree with the artistic direction he went with or not, the fact remains that there was an enormous amount of creative effort that went into it. Also related to this is the value of the creation in itself as a work of art by an artist who's work often brings in fairly large amounts of money both in auctions and when purchased directly from a gallery. As I mentioned earlier in the thread, the amount of money that went into hiring Sigurdur Gudmundsson as well as the build costs itself is likely quite a large sum.
4. And finally we should really stop looking at this as an act against Xenuria alone. Yes, that may have been the only name scratched off of it, but the end result is a slight against every single name listed. It is a single work of art, and not just a collection of individual names on a hunk of metal. |

A scale in which I think you are going with this would be pretty huge lol essentially your name would be about the size of a shuttle. Given the amount of names on a plate x the number of plates needed, you are looking at one massive object in space to render. it would make a station look like a pod sitting next to a titan
I wouldn't mind having a room inside a station, possibly that station that 10 yr vets could dock at which never got built, be made available. Or as someone suggested any CONCORD station...perhaps one in Yulai where you could leave your CQ into a wall with all the names hung on the wall. Of course you would need to enlarge the font a bit more, but since you arent talking about real world materials and cost, font sizing isnt an issue.
Although I hope to visit Iceland one day for a fanfest, I wouldn't mind seeing it in game. |

Its sad on several ways.
First, it was again an Act from a non icelander who had again to damage properties from another Country such people really got my nerves because its already cheap on so many ways to leave another country damaged...
Second, searching plates with thoudands of names and stray like a rat only to scratch one specific Persons name is so ... Uggghh pathetic.
Third, its also a mirror how people Act to each other in this game, i know many are great people who share some good times ingame but their are also so many assholes even ingame who lost any goal or stretch to humatiy aslong they can squeeze the Last drop of blood out of someone. (Not even have to mention erotica1!)

I got the same feels, Jonah bro. It's always the rampant carebear types screaming the doom and gloom dirty sociopath generator crud. It's also...carebears that end up being implicated in the vast majority of "Taking it way too far out of game" BS that they like to accuse us "bad people" of doing.
I go out for a beer with the vast majority of "bad people" in EVE, without a care in the world about it. Would totally sit in a bar and down a few with my hated war-targets in game. Likely chat about kills and losses to go along with.
The EVE community is overall, a quite well behaved and great group of people when it comes to the real world. We share a love for this crazy bad spaceship submarine game, and it draws us together across our pretendo war lines. There's been repeated stories from businesses involved with Fanfest talking about how wonderful, polite, and kind these evil awful horrid must be psycho players actually are.
It's the one's who don't engage in the community, and pull the "EVE totes real in game baddy=RL sociopath" garbage that always seems to end up making news for going way outside the game bounds. The risk of having your day ruined by other people is the cornerstone with which EVE was built and we want to keep that (infact, this is much more representative of the consensus opinion within CCP). |
