Suggestion for TomB - new module that could solve the issue of jumpgate bookmarks (from my post in general discussion).
In another long-ass thread Familiar mentioned what I think could be a very workable solution to the jumpgate bookmark issue between pirates and carebears.
The solution is an anchorable device that, when activated, drops people out of warp within, say, a 50km radius of the device. The device would have something like 10,000 HPs. This would still permit bookmarks to be used for quick travel to jumpgates that do not have an opposition force, but would allow PC pirates to hold up the stargate as a part of their role.
If you are going to respond with "people should not be able to hold up a jumpgate," I don't want to hear from you. This thread is only for people who agree in principle with the point that players should, in the capacity of a player pirate, be capable of holding others up at stargates.

Check the dev blog from a week or two ago, there's an object that will do this planned already.
Also in the CSM (I think) there was mention of a new EW ship that could tag and follow ships - so no more hiding at safe points :-) (or :-( depending on who it is I guess...).

Lol I can see the exploit already. (or tactic) 1. goto station. 2. drive about 50k out. 3. Deposit unit and activate.
Now you can interdict people without worrying about the station turrets. :) --------------------------------------- CSM Chat Log September 25, 2003: Fuhry> Some things we simply cannot test, and therefore we just put it on Tranq. cross our fingers and then get into panic m |

All someone needs to do is place one 99km from the Yulai gate in Pator and another one 99km away from that, and they can grief the entire server.

As part of their "role"? Who defines what this "role" is? You?
And if you don't want any discussion you should talk to the mirror instead of posting here.
1. Your claim that camping gates is part of a pirate's role and should be made easier is moronic. Perhaps you live in a dream world where pirates only hold people up for ransom and let them pass if they pay up... instead what we have are pirates that open fire with no questions asked.
2. People would start anchoring these EVERYWHERE, making traveling a nightmare.

I like the idea but would like to see the item have 5 hit points rather than 10000.
Its all about balance.
Ps: What's the *******s about carebears ? Simply because someone wants to avoid you exploiting at a gate they should be called carebears ? Sounds like your almost done with puberty .....

Another lesson in KISS:
1) Apply signature radius to stations, asteroids, jumpgates and other non-movable entities.
2) "Bounce" players coming out of warp inside a 25km bubble from the Signature Radius of the non-movable entity to the boundry of this bubble.
3) Minimum warp range upped to 300km (2x what it is now).
4) Warp out distance can be preset to Minimum->200km either by a configurable option in settings or as a drop-down menu option (Warp to...minimum, 5km, 10km, 15km, etc.)
5) Remove the ability to bookmark nullspace or any other location that is not a permanently fixed object (excluding some special player structures). Delete all existing "Co-ordinate" bookmarks. =============================== Deception + Information + Skill |

And considering that the thing would cost a substantial sum (say 5 million mineral cost to build), and anyone would be able to disable it by fire without CONCORD repercussion, or pick it up, whatever, it wouldn't be the best investment to drop it in a system where you can't make any use of it.

Simple answer to this. The item would be required to be anchored within 5,000m of a fixed structure (such as mobile refinery, station, etc.)

Go away you flaming troll. The whole idea of lawless 0.0 space is so that you CAN actually interdict people and engage them in combat, use force to control a constellation or region. With insta-jump bookmarks (which this idea preserves for TRAVEL PURPOSES when there is nobody trying to hold up the gate - saving everyone oodles of time), it is nearly impossible to prevent someone from passing through a system.
And I have explained elsewhere the reason pirates SHOOT FIRST ASK QUESTIONS LATER is simply because we CAN'T ******* hold people up! They jump out before they even stop so its either kill first or not at all.

Mmmmmm... flaming troll... delicious.
You're a regular little whiner aren't you? You're too lazy to hunt people down, you just like to sit at a gate, waiting for someone to appear. Now you also want them to drop out of warp 50km in front of you so you have ample time to target them and open fire.
What I most despise about your kind is the fact that every time other people gang up and come after you, you escape by jumping the gate. Here's my suggestion: if these modules are introduced into the game, using them should count as an offensive action, thus also preventing YOU from warping or jumping away. That's should make your neighborhood pirate's life a lot more.... exciting.

Nice idea. And we can add one device that when deployed near gate automaticaly stops the ship and freezes all it's guns and drives so that you can blow it up in 2 sec. And then the guy who got killed will buy a new ship and install a device that refelects hits to originator ship and multiplies damage by 1000 so that the attacker will be destoyed in 1 sec. And then you can install the same device and you could play some space tennis with laser beams or missiles.
Hmmm... What do you think people? ______

I would say that a pilot who has traveled a well known path would have inside knowledge of that system. If you stop allowing player the choice on how they fly there ships you might as well make all travel a auto pilot expreance.
KISS a reason alone.

just a thought but wouldnt it make more sense to have some kind of interdictor ship. no special mods just one purpose. something like a light cruiser?

I like the idea of stasis mines. Where you can deploy them at warp-in points. They detonate and cause the propulsion system to fail for X amount of time (enhanced by an appropriate skill also for this type of mine).

about those bookmarks well in rl a captain of a ship or a plane plots out his course on a map for shortest and savest way¦s too get where he is going so bookmarks should work on the same principles u get plots (bookm) and fly your ship the fastest and safest ways u can so why change it

And why make life any easier for pirates in the first place? They should have to work for their isk just like the rest of us. They already have it too easy...

Edited by: Jnex26 on 26/09/2003 11:12:26 Why should your role as a pirate be made easier It's already too easy.
if someone has bookmarked a jumpgate and jumps close enough to a jumpgate to jump then good for them, Your role getting hard is like all the miners out there with the ore theifs around is getting tougher.
I personally think that if this was to be introduced then it should be fitted to a ship and have a HUGE CPU and CAP requirement. So someone using one would be at a disadvantage and not ready to blow the crap out of you. and would make it fairer and make it fairer. Also a warp stabaliser should be able to override it. so people have some defnce aginst it.
P.S. Although I don't agree with some tatics empolyed by these Rouges I think a balance must be kept.

This would't just make **** easier for pirates fools. But the ppl chasing them outa their space.
Really think about it. During a battle one could mine the warp routes with these. When one side warped, and ran... they would drop outa warp in deep space with a fresh apoc.
Also this would ad some more ummm... traditional scifi sytle pirating to EVE. If any of you have played freelancer with the mag rings. Would be sorta intresting if they added an ability to drop ships outa warp and ambush them.
