As is obvious by the extended deployment time, the hardware upgrade took longer than we anticipated, even with some "Murphy Time" added in for safety's sake. Froggi, our SysAdmin, is working on a post-mortem of what caused the deployment issues.
The timing of the upgrade was unfortunate, especially with E3, but the database hardware had reached critical mass and we could not delay the upgrade any longer without putting the database at risk.
The upgrade itself faced a number of issues that chewed through our cushion. The Server team was able to work through them and put a lot of hours on the clock to bring TQ back. Again, I apologize for the extended downtime and hope the increased database access speed helps compensate.

Don't think so, it would have been a bad idea to showcase a game at E3 when the servers where down
they either test sisi or even choas dev server ________________________________ Club Seals Not Sandwichs |

Demos were being run on Chaos, so the only effect at the CCP booth was a short lack of connectivity for the guys in the 'Nerve Center' that was quickly resolved.

I assume this is also the thread to report issues in?
Overall performance seems to have increased (faster market performance, less lag), but a few things that I did notice were:
1. It seems to take a lot longer for some reason to jump between systems (well over a minute). The effect I see is that my ship jumps, but the shield hardener stays behind, and then pretty much nothing happens for a minute. Then I warp into the next system and all is well. 2. It seems to take a bit longer to load up the assets window, even with all station item lists closed, but once it's loaded it's fine.
I also got a report from a corpmate that copying BM's is taking even longer than usual, but I can't confirm that one myself.
But besides these things (of which the long jump is somewhat annoying), all seems to be well. Or even better in fact. :) Rimhawk V8 Interceptors |

Overall performance seems to have increased (faster market performance, less lag, faster opening of hangars), but two things I noticed were:
1. It seems to take a lot longer for some reason to jump between systems, sometimes well over a minute. The effect I see is that my ship jumps, but the shield hardener effect stays behind, and then pretty much nothing happens for a minute. Then the system I jumped to loads and all is well. Just takes a long time to perform the actual jump.
I don't seem to be having this issue. If anything, jumps are faster then ever. For me, at least.

I don't think I have sufficent assets to test this. So I probably would not notice.
Originally by: Rimhawk I also got a report from a corpmate that copying BM's is taking even longer than usual (15 seconds per BM!), but I can't confirm that one myself.
Took me a bit over a second to copy a [single] bookmark, both from hangar and cargohold.

In my experiance, this is indeed a good hardware update with a noticable positive effect.
Thanks CCP!

can you tell us how long till things smooth out. Most people I've chatted with have slightly increased lag since the patch. I'm assumeing(yeah assumptions, I know) that you guys are running a buncha logging programs to monitor performance for a few days to see how things go.
When will be be able to expect the resumption of normal server load, and the improvement from the new servers?

Respect to the guys for working hard to get it back up and running, thanks for putting the time in - I, for one, appreciate your efforts.

Things I hoped to see Faster gate Faster undock Faster market Faster people/places they all seem slow still I have 10ms ping times to London then it goes to 127ms onto the server Not sure whatÆs up with that
Anyway CCP Have a Brew on me lol good job fighting murfy :)

Mr. Murphy has bad habit of showing up when you don't need him. I think he has special attention to sysadmins. :)
But come and visit Motsu. No changes after db hw upgrade. Undocking/Market/Logging in/Select All with 250+items in hangar takes still time.

Database performance should increase even more as we reindex and recreate statistics for all tables in the database. I've noticed a couple of places where performance decreased with the update but I'll use the downtimes next this week to fix that. ------ Valar Database admin - Server operations team CCP Games How to write a good bugreport |

I wasn't aware of the database size issue until I read the after-deployment report, otherwise I would have said something in advance. Pre-emptively nerfing whining is always a positive in my book.

the database improvements relate afaik to market - items - hanger - corp transactiosn (anything older than 30 days is gone) undocumented feature but good anti lag.
Mmm escrow should run quicker tho without a filter feature to enable a blacklisting of scammers and those that spam it up will continue to be useless but overall performance relating to this upgrade seems to be good so far from my end at least

I've seen a minimum of 50% reduction in load times since the hardware upgrade.
Now if only CCP could do something about my pokey internet connection...
P.S. Maybe a definition of a "long skill" for the future, so people know that a skill set to finish shortly after the end of the scheduled DT isn't it.

It was unacceptable. Don't let it happen again.

qft, performance jumping between systems and during combat has decreased significantly on my end - engaged a rupture earlier tonight, and after I scrambled it and opened fire, I lagged...for 45 seconds or so. ty to my teammate for saving my ass, just throwing this out there.
