Its not needed and the source of many lost drones. Having return to drone bay and scoop to drone bay is just so clumbsy especially when drone orbit JUST out of scoop range.
Like say a couple drone are within scoop range, and the others aren't. You click scoop and only the drones that are in range at that very instant get scooped. Or if you click return to drone bay only the drones that AREN'T within scoop range return to the drone bay. This is stupid! Preferably just get rid of scoop. So "Return to drone bay" would apply to all drones whether they are within scoop range or not. That is all.

Well, personally I like the 'scoop to drone bay' because it allows me to resupply my drones in deep 0.0... So, no.

I find it useful when the last two drones just sit in space ignoring all of your commands like badly behaved puppies and you have to go and fetch them.

Does this only work for abandoned drones? Or is there a way to get drones from your hold to your drone bay?
And to the OP, if you had to warp out and left your drones behind, you would be unable to recover them without scoop to drone bay. Which would result in more lost drones. AFAIK.

i'd like to see you telling sentry drones to return to drone bay.

Urm, no because scoop to drone bay is the only working method. Return to DB is to buggy, i think it only works 100% if your stationary.

Yeah this is one of the many issues of drones that i'd like to see changed. I'd also like to see the "return to drone bay" command act as a timed retrieval. Do a distance check on each drone, calculate the time it would take to mwd back to your vessel, and just teleport them into your drone bay if they get stupid on you.

To clarify for people already no reading the OP, this isn't actually about getting rid of the scoop to drone bay command on the drone control list its about combining it with the return to drone bay command

Yeah i guess that works. Just get rid of return to drone bay, and just have scoop to drone bay command. And if they aren't in scoop range, have them return to drone bay.

its a well known bug that CCP knows about when if drones arent the same type and or scout drones with heavy combats the scout drones sit and ignore all commands at between 1600m and 3000m the heavies come back but u need to approach the scouts and medium scouts to get em to actually follow the scoop or return to drone bay command (guess its differing drone types that the problem lies)

It happens to me, with all Hammerhead II's... so it's not just differing drone types. ________________________________________________

'Return to Drone bay' Is fubar. Badly. At least with all Minmatar and Amarr T1 and T2 ships with all T1 and T2 drones.
The overview often shows 'returning to ship' when the drones are well within the range the drones need to return to the bay. Often the drones linger just outside the range to scoop them when you told them to 'return to drone bay'.
The 'scoop to drone bay' right click command in the overview tells you how many drones are in range - not that all those drones actually would be scooped, but hey, it is a start.
You need the 'scoop to drone bay' command to get your drones back if you accidently left them in space.
Remember that we can't refill the drone bay at a POS. Scooping up another ship's drones often is the only way to get replacements.
No, at the moment, we can't live without the 'scoop to drone bay' command. --*=*=*-- Megadon CCP wanted a well known artist and celebrity to test the new font so it's approval would be well known. They got Ray |

yeah, they're like cans on tractor beams, they get too close to each other and get stuck, on each other :( sometimes asking them to return to orbit and waiting till they do can get round this, otherwise its annoying as hell.

Edited by: Drizit on 11/05/2006 08:59:05 I get it with Hornets and it happens whether you are moving or not.
It seems to happen more if you tell them to come back instead of allowing them to do it on their own. They are as bad a kids "Awwww, I was having fun, why do I have to go back in that smelly bay?" {Drones deliberatly drag their feet on the way back.}
edit: And they say AI is still a long way from being sentient...

Wild speculation: It seems to me that the drones don't return to the bay when ordered because of a slight desynchronisation between client and server. Like when you're right next to a cargo can, but you can't open it because the server thinks you're further away.
They always seem to sit just outside scooping range and the only reason I can think of for this is that the client thinks they're in range when the server thinks they aren't. Maybe a solution is to have them still attempt to get within 1.5km of the ship but make the actual scooping range larger, like 3km to compensate for the desynch?

Just make drones fly full speed nomatter what, and when they return to drone bay, make them kamikaze into the ship.
I'd love to see some Domi get hit out of alignment by a light drone...

You can't live without the functionality. You could live without the command, though; we only need one "get this drone back inside" button that scoops if they're in range.

Its not that bad. sometimes the last couple drones get bumping into each other and wont dock. in this case just make one orbit and the other will scoop fine.
for all the drone contrilling whine threads the problems really arent that bad. And they are lil robots, they are gunna malfunction a lil bit here and there anyway.
ive NEVER not been able to get my drones to do what i tell them.

Just after the command "Return to Drone Bay" was introduced, it had the combind functionality of Scoop and what it has now. For some reason they cut them into two groups again, which makes you scoop only those in range(OK) but you can only order "return to drone bay" to those that are not in range, bahhh....

Um No.. Another ussless nerf request.
1. Concentrating on anything other then buggs is a wate of dev's time. 2. Just because you do not pay attention and warp out without your drones doesnt mean everyone else needs to pay fer it. 3. There are times that the drones just dont want to come home and the only way to get em is "Scoup to drone bay" Happens to me all the time. 4. (message to all the "nerf this nerf that" bible thumpers) If you dont like the game .. your not forced to pay and play it. Deal with it.

I've had best success when I have no extra propulsion going, and I'm moving towards them. In that specific case alone, I can say they'll very probably dock with me a good portion of the time, mixed drones or not.
But yeah, it's the "returning" to 2000m range from you, and then slowing their speed to...I dunno, what is it 10, 20m/s?
Out in 0.0 space, where I know I most probably won't get any nasty surprises, I use the T2 drones safely. I haven't memorized what all the empire NPC missions look like, so I don't know who's going to spring up on me or whatnot. I have to stick with T1 drones - I might get caught with my pants down, and they all get blown away before I have a chance to react.
Having the remote repairer on the carriers is almost a waste - either you're in a position to get them to dock immediately, or they're dead. No in between.

Personally, I wouldn't mind the whole "fumbling through the return to drone bay oops they're stuck at 1900m gotta make them return for orbit instead, now scooooop" thing if there were hotkeys that we could assign...atleast a Hotkey for Making Drones "Engage Target" would be nice _____________________________
