I am stumped. Do I train for assault frigs or T3 cruisers?
I only do hi sec sites and lvl 3 missions. I am gallante so looking to go for those types of ships. Also looking to start wormhole exploration. My myrmidon does the job alright but is slow.
Those with experience in both assault frigs and T3 cruisers, what would you train for first? |

T3 cruiser is massive overkill for a L3.
An assault frigate would not be much faster than your Myrmidon.
Are you using sentry drones? They're hilariously overpowered right now, so you might consider it. But otherwise my only suggestion is to level up your standings, and do L4s in a battleship. The Dominix is a popular choice, and you seem to have the skillset for it anyway.
Oh, and threads like this more properly belong in the "Ships and Modules" forum. Not posting on my main, and loving it.-á Because free speech.-á

I occasionally mission in assault frigates becasue its fun. They are not particularly quick at it though. If your intention is making ISK the serious level IV options are T3s Marauders and Battleships.
My personal opinion is: - Assault Frigate ... fun but more suited to PvP - T3 ... Ok at highsec missions but ideally suited to ratting in losec - T1 battleships ... mainstay of level IV missining and rarely ganked - Pirate battleships ... very good at level IV missions but some can be a gank magnet - Marauders ... best at level IV missioning but expensive and depending on fit can be gank magnets

If you are serious about wormhole exploration or hacking/arch in nullsec, you'll definitely want to go for T3s. They can also be nice for doing certain mission chains (like the repeatable faction chains) and COSMOS missions. Also, T3s will cut through L3 missions easily, so if exploration/wormholes are an eventual goal and you are happy doing L3s now, certainly start with the T3 rather than an AF.
If missioning is your "thing", though, you really want to graduate to level 4 missions and a dedicated mission boat to handle that. That will be a faction BS or marauder (or sentry domi, as previously pointed out). So still not an AF. |

Thanks guys. Sorry for wrong thread this is my 1st forum post and didn't even see the ships thread :P
I was looking at training for battleships but have been reading up a lot on assault frigs and T3 cruisers lately and thought that was the way to go, but A battleship it is! |

It's fine, this forum is really badly organized anyway.
But yeah, especially as you seem to be Gallente anyway, a Dominix is a great mission ship. Make sure you train up those drone skills to get the best use out of it, especially Drone Interfacing, which is a skill worth it's weigh in gold, or whatever passes for gold in EVE. There are other things to do aside from missioning so Assault Frigates still have their place.
Also consider training interceptors as they are quick to train for early on and let you travel long distances quickly and safely in high and also give you the opportunity of snooping around low and null fairly early in your career. Not much use for missions but there i smore to EVE than missions. |

Neither. Heavy Assault Cruiser will do the trick. I just undocked for the first time and someone challenged me to a duel. Wat do?

HAC is a good suggestion.
And if you plan to start Wormhole Daytripping with C1 and C2 classes, for those a Gnosis works like a charm. Just put a Core Probe Launcher in the utility high, tank and arm to taste and off you go. Every atom in our bodies was forged in the furnace of ancient stars - it's time we return home. |

To elaborate on my early suggestion, a HAC is:
- Cheaper than a T3
- Tankier than a Battlecruiser
- Faster and more agile than a Battlecruiser
- Able to enter both 4/10 and 3/10 Combat Sites
- Faster to Train than a T3
- Ishtar is master race
But as an explorer/PVE Enthusiast, a Tengu is, indeed, your eventual endgame. I just undocked for the first time and someone challenged me to a duel. Wat do?

Fixed a slight over sight in your list for you. |

I really need to get around to start to train for L5 Caldari Cruiser.
according to Evemon, it is my only barrier to HAC/T3
I wonder if HAM T2 is must for HAC/T3 in L3/4 mission? |

Not for L3, but L4, yeah, pretty borderline. I have on occasion flown some easier L4/COSMOS L4 in my Sac and there are some BS tanks in particular that take forever and a day to break even with T2 HAMs. You probably could peck through them with meta 4's but it would be painfully slow. |

An assault frig would be very inefficient in both missions and exploration sites.
A Tengu would be decent in lvl 4 missions but useless for hisec exploration because it can't enter any DED-rated sites that spawn in hisec.
A battleship will be good for missions but again useless for exploration.
The tengu used to be a SP-efficient all-in-one ship for hisec PvE, but that role now goes to the Ishtar. The Gila is very similar to the Ishtar also. |

It's very hard to have anything bad to say about the Ishtar.
The only proviso about T3 is if you have a long SP train to get into them be wary as they are confirmed as being up for a serious nerf next rebalance and you may get yours just in time for the rebalance nerf bat. |
