Edited by: Valium Summer on 24/04/2006 08:04:09 I'm wondering why my skill allows me to equip cruise missle launchers but won't allow me to equip cruise missles.
Seeing that I could equip Cruise missles launchers, I decided to train my BS skill to two so I could buy my first Raven. Today I get there, buy my raven. I buy 6 cruise launchers that are littered through out the region. I pick them up, pick my raven up... fly (slowly) to my agent base. I outfitt my new Raven (very excited at this point) I go to put the cruise missles that I have been saving up from my missions into my launchers and I learn that I need missle launcher LVL 5 and Cruise missles lvl 1. LvL 5 alone is 5 days out.
Would it have been to much to include the Missle op 5 as a pre-requisite to equiping the cruise missle launcher.
instead I liquidate my ferox and run around the galaxy for 2 hours Just so I can learn that I have a Gimped Raven for 5 days.

would it make much difference? not really.
I figure its likely a left over from when they initially started the missile system changes and introduced the cruise launcher (once upon a time, you could use any missiles in any launcher that they'd fit in, like cap boosters and charges... sorta)
and then never bothered to change it to the more logical requirement like you said.
but whos fault is it to not research, eh?
and people actually sell their old ships? I figured most people just kinda collected them, since sometimes a smaller ship is better for a particular task, never hurts to have extras and a variety laying around.

Well, Cruise Missiles wont fit into a Siege launcher anyways, you've to put Torpedoes into those. Or you need to fit Cruise launchers to use cms.
I agree though, that the appropriate missile skill should be part of the requirements to fit the launcher.

Difference? Yes It would have. I would have trained Missle launcher op 5 first... before i trained Caldari Battleship 1 and 2.
Its not a question of fault... I would have gladly trained missle op 5.
I'm just very dissapointed right now. Was looking forward to finishing up the two lvl 4 missions I couldn't do in my ferox. Both expire in 2 days.
Maybe list Missle OP 5 as a secondary skill.

Why is everybody so anxious for Cruise Missiles?
Without the guided missile precision skill, torps do even more damage against smaller targets. And they do MUCH more against BSs in any way. And even don't need Missiles V but only IV.
Cruise Missiles are only good if you a) want to missile-sniper b) want to specialize in anti-smaller BS
For normal purposes (doing level4s, beeing armed against hostile palyer BSs, etc) you're better off with torps. At least as a new raven user.
So skill Missiles to IV and be happy with your raven :-) -- This game is still in beta stage |

It's a holdover from the old system where any missile could go in any launcher.

I don't see the problem - t2 strip miners have different skill reqs to the crystals you have to put in them.
In your position I'd just use torps and train t2 lights and mediums to handle cruisers + frigs.

I know you are looking for someone to identify with your issue.. well you found one.
I am sitting here waiting for the same skill to finish for a similar reason. It would help to have it on the launcher. I have 4 more days before I can take these heavies off and fit the cruise missiles.

Had no idea torpedos would work.
I'll log on and see if i have necessary skills to use torpedos.

It is not a prerequisite for the launcher to have Missile Lnchr Operation 5, because you are allowed to load Defender missiles into Cruise Launchers. No more reasons are necessary...
BTW: usefulness of defenders nowadays is not an issue discussed here --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- |

Even a side note on the launcher required skills tab would be appreciated: Something like "Note: Missle launcher operation 5 required to equip cruise missles"
I have yet to run into anyone who actually uses defender missles.

And just for the record, I appreciate the ideas and information from people who at least empathize with my plight. This game is very complex and often when eve has the oportunity to simplify the game or make it easier to understand, it does exactly the opposite. I feel the Cruise missle launcher was one example of it being more complicated than it had to be.
If you want to argue this point then allow me to show you some examples:
inefficient: Lacking the ability or skill to perform effectively, incompetent. Not producing the intended result. Wasteful of time and energy.
However, in eve it describes the BEST named hull repairer available (Of these "Inefficient" "Hope" "I-B Polarized" and "Automated" "Inefficient" is considered the best).
Of the named Turrets, Prototype Gauss is considered the best named... but of the Named Mining turrets EP-S Gausian is considered the worst.
Of the named Magnetic field stabs... "Gauss" is second in value.
There are many named Shield power relays You can spend alot of time compariing them trying to find differences but for the most part you will only learn that they are vastly different in price only.
Boost Amplifiers: Copacetic: Very satisfactory or acceptable Stalwart: Having or marked by imposing physical strength. Which one of these is best? I would think Stalwart but in truth it is the Copacetic.
Modal is the BEST named Hybrid Blaster, but Modal describes second worst laser turret (3rd best).
I could go on with strange and confusing naming conventions.
Its not enough in this game to know the meaning of the words that describe the items. You have to go some link, some graph and make sense of the nonsense and inconsistancy.

Yep, isn't it great. What you know MATTERS :)

actually...what you know makes it more confusing. If you know the meaning of the word inefficient you would avoid an item by that name. But not in eve, it describes the best item. I dont' find that clever I find it annoying.

Ya been there, done that...and it sucks. Get in the habbit of checking equipment's skill requirements before you buy. I know market can be slow and its annoying but its less annoying than running about picking up equipment that later you find out you cant use.

Guided missile precision doesn't affect torp or rocket explosions, because they're unguided?
