I'd love to put this in the Gen Discussion forum but it wouldn't fit, but we should never complain about CCP, EVE or our developers ever again. Read this in horror:

By that logic, I should never complain about the U.S. because at least it's not Iran.

Sony's motto has always been "Profit over Performance." Why does this make any difference? They have strived to do nothing other than grief their own customers, lie, cheat, and deceive to any means necessary to get the all powerful dollar.
CCP + Turbine Interactive have, by far, had the best Customer Service department I've ever experienced.

Ya know really SOE is running their company into the ground. I honestly think no one on thier dev teams even play games. EQ2 does have some aspects that are engrossing like crafting but that is about it. They are just in the mindset to support their current games and with EQ2 being their current property I don't see why anyone would play that game for years to come with all the other mmorpg games coming out. Most of the mmorpgs out their just aren't fun, SOE is just treading water.
The reason why WOW is so successful is it could have been released as a single player game and questing would have been fun. If EQ2 was s single player game or SWG in it's current state it would get horrid reviews. SOE really has ran their reputation into the ground, even people who haven't played one of thier games knows they have screwed their community.

gah, real sickening. but its nothing new, companys do that a long time now. There's a own type of job for that, where they hand a full developed game to a guy who builds professional bugs into the games. best example: black&white 1, one of the biggest disappointment in games history besides Halo

Well, as an ex-EQ1/EQ2 player I can talk pretty much of my experience in there. Sadly it's all true, if not worst. I began playing EQ1 way back before SoE came along, and saw how they made the game a mess. EQ2 was , imho, the worst mess of them all, not only did I waste months of playtime in there (Bleh I could have played EvE if I had know about it before) but to me, the utter awful experience of seeing such a badly designed and conceived game was shocking. I left a 59 Necromancer rotting in their servers, and I shed a tear for him, cuz they duped me, out of EQ1 (Wich was at least fun) to the utter trash that is EQ2. Honestly, when most games out there charge little or nothing for free expansions (like CPP) and you get better support, and know that you are playing a quality product, I still dont understand what kept me goin' in that awful place. I know CCP is not flawless, I know they every once in a while, crap the server and the game, I know they prolly have done bad things every now and then, but at least, for my money, I know they will do all that they can to fix the game and make it more fun, AND ACTUALLY care for it. It amazes me to see that their motto was/is "Growth cannot be at the cost of company spirit", that really tells you a lot. Even if you are all out to make money, you can still deliver a product that is good. No matter how many sexually deviant fantasies you have with the "dough" , you can still deliver AND give players a good game, and actually earn a profit out of it. For me, that's CCP. If CCP ever wants to have a Waypoint of HOW NOT TO DO THINGS, I just hope they look at how SOE is run and get some experience out of it. That doesnt mean I will not complain when I see things wrong or badly placed, but gives me the assurance that I can actually play a game the way it is supposed to be played.
CCP, remember, the mockery that is SoE must be like a shadow that you guys must NEVER embrace. EVER! Keep it there all the time, but only to look upon it and then gaze upon you, and see how much darkness and shadow you guys are allowing to grow upon your very own souls. Damnation will be at hand if you turn a blind eye upon that Ghost of Deceit ...

Weeeeeeell... to be fair, what was released in May 2003 with the name "EVE Online" on the box was a beta, too. Trick is, CCP was somewhat forced into this by S&SI; partly due to greed, and partly due to the fact that the development budget was dry. It was either release then or watch the game and the dream wither on the vine. Besides, by Castor, just about all the old problems were sorted and the game began to improve. A year in, by Exodus, the dream really took off and CCP began delivering on their promises.
The thing with SOE is that they obviously kept doing what they did deliberately. Anyone could see that Planes of Power, or a bunch of other EQ expansions, or original SWG, or the Combat Upgrade, or the New Game Enhancements, were all released unfinished. Thing is, people still pay for all of this. SOE's repulsive business practices were met with sheep, so they just kept feasting.
Given all the bad press SWG has gotten now, and given SOE's plummeting subscriber numbers (outside of EQ2, perhaps, which actually does seem to have its crap in lockdown at last), I will say this: anyone who thinks all the fairly sudden interest by other parties in liscensing EVE and dealing with CCP is just random chance and a slow growth of the game should take a look at the larger picture. The old giants are growing gangrenous, and there's room for folks who actually care about their customers to move in. -------------- What good are actions if there's no one to tell the tale afterward?

About SOE, well they got one thing right. People bought it and played it because it had the Star Wars name. I have played and bought it as well. It's Star Wars. It had the potential of a huge game with a huge community because it IS Star Wars.
But there is only so far you can go with tolerating crap. I'd use another word instead of crap but it's censored. I will NEVER, EVER, EVER again buy or play any SOE game. I wish CCP would do something Star Wars related some day. Perhaps a special Star Wars week where they would temporarily rename all ships to Star Wars ones and give them different models.

SOE is bad but every time I get a bad attitude about a developer I step back and think of Derick Smart...man behind the same but "upgraded" battlecruiser games....each game was the same just released with more bugs in a different box...then when you try to report the bugs you get insulted by derick smart personaly

CCP are Teh good guys SOE are Teh baaaaaaaaaad guys
When SOE brought NGE live for SWG, they reduced the number of professions down with like 34 and down to 9 or something. And... from this link, it seems they are "cutting" even more. At least they are favoring one profession now before the rest of it. And even I loved playing jedi in my time, jedi is now so watered down that Sidious and Yoda would have been shamed about SOE and LucasArts.
Teh Link: http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/board/message?board.id=swggpdiscussion&message.id=638983#M638983
Now... I simply refuse to touch anything coming from SOE for this time being.
