This is game of patience. This is not WoW. This is game thats hard to master and even harder to win. But thats what draws us longtime players here again and again. We are free to set our own goals and measure our success how ever we like.
Lots of fun in mmo comes out of playing with others. The very nature of EvEonline is encourage team play. Got wardecked? its more fun to fight with friends. Going mining? Fleet support can improve your yield ans cycle time of mining lasers. Live in nullsec? Team play is almost mandatory to long term living there...
I wont comment on your corp history. Just seems little short tempered. This game is about what you want to do here in long run. Find corporation that alligns mostly to those goals. As others have pointed out, no corp will fit 100% to your goals.
This is massive online simulation of life in far far away galaxy, where even laws of nature are still in motion of changeing. What works today, might work differently tomorrow.
If you are new to this game. Give a serious tought of joining one of those well known new player friendly organisations. Learning cliff is steep, even now when CCP has tryed to flat it out a bit. |

There is a corp forum here you know, they actively recruit. Filtering random corps in-game is somewhat pointless as not every corp is recruiting all the time. Lots are though... GÇö+¬GÇö |

I haven't read any other replies (It's early and haven't gotten my first coffee yet) but I'll just sum up my initial reactions:
- you don't have to grind, there's various ways of making isk . Some are semi passive on an alt, others require you to be active but doen't necessarily feel like grind
- you using a plex and "cheating your way past the initial game play" doesn't help, because it robs you of any personal milestones which help you get into the game proper (your first mil isk, your first cool new ship)
- EVE is very DIFFERENT from other MMOs, yes it can be a hairy adrenaline rush but at the same time it's also a more slowed down kind of game. Other MMOs you can go "lol, lets kill some spider yo, and where's the lvl 10 battlegrounds?", EVE forces you to do silly things like reading, learning and putting in effort. It's a different pace and you'll have to get used to it
- most people are terrible and that means most corps are terrible too and the ones that aren't simply have learned that, most people being terrible, active/bright/inquisitive newbies probably aren't newbies at all. So they're weary of newbies who act too enthusiastic compared to the average, sounds silly and backwards but in EVE there's a valid reason for their attitude
- don't rush, slow down, take your time. EVE isn't for ADHD folks (not saying you are)
There are entities out there who cater to a more "instant action" kind of playing, most notably Brave Newbies. Go give them a look. There's also Red vs Blue (RvB), they do something similar but at the same time it's quite different, give that one a good look as well. Joining either will help you get ahead in the game and get into it.
Don't rush, slow down, take your time. EVE is one of those elusive games you might be playing for the next 10 years, pace yourself and give it time to get you addicted. There's no reason dismiss or get discouraged by it in the first few weeks just because you haven't adapted yet or it's not going as you hoped or planned (which is normal and will take time), just let it happen :) |

Oh wow, I was wondering about the tone of this thread. It got moved from somewhere else, now it all makes sense.
OP,
Ya, you're missing something. You seem to get discouraged too easy. EVE might not be the game for you, since it is, in many ways, a game about rising up from the ashes of defeat. But if you decide to stick it out, then there are things you can do.
First, you have to play. Being offline doing skill queue sucks. I've been having connection issues lately when I try to play eve. It burns anyone out pretty fast.
Second, You have to get over your fear of dying. In the OP, you saw the warning message and panicked. A lot of pvp is psychological. So,keeping a cool head while your ship is flaming around you is critical. Historically, the best way to get over dying, is to go die a lot. So make a bunch of really cheap fitted ships and run into ls or null and pick fights with anyone, whether you think you can win or not. Try to learn from these fights, and do the very best you can, maybe ask for after action critiques from the people you attack, or who attack you. But mainly, accepting defeat from the start allows you to fight at your very best.
Third, consistency is gold in Eve. You learn more sticking through troubles than you will cutting out, so if you run into a problem, see it as a challenge, something to enhance your game experience, not something to evade.

How about you stick with a corporation once you join it? There wont be a single corp out there that will fit your playstyle 100%, you have to adapt. It sounds to me like you joined a FW corp and left it without even undocking . . .

I have not actually done anything in the game for several weeks now. I am just training skills. The last time I did anything game related was doing the tutorials. Then I did about a week of killing space pirates. Then I bought a PLEX because, I absolutely loathe boring and repetitive quests/missions. The Space pirate missions are just awful after a few days. Am I missing something?
Yes. Go out and do what every floats your boat.
If you end up just playing skillqueue online....you will unsub quickly because it's boring. If you end up falling for the "I need x amount of SP before I can do anything"...you will unsub quickly because it's boring. If you end up falling for the "I need x amount of ISK before I can do anything"...you will unsub quickly because it's boring.
What should you do...what ever you want, if you want to PvP, there are MANY MANY options open to you.

When I join I see 10-15 players on a Wednesday, which I felt as if that was pretty active. I proceed to undock from the station and I get the message "Leaving this station will cause Concord to gun you down. Are you sure you want to undock?" Uhhh... Freak no.... I canceled the undock and asked my corp why I couldn't undock. Faction war, yadda yadda, undock and run away, Yeah nooo... so I quit that corp. Am I missing something?
So...you joined a corp, without doing a little research on what they are doing (Faction Warfare) and how faction warfare works. And then get angry and quit the corp because of the "good" info they gave you (you should have joined after you've met up with the corp or should have moved towards them).
Use this guide to find your corp.
Quote:I soon realized that the corporation recruiter/application tool is just awful. So I took it upon myself to find corps via the internet. Every corporation worth joining is:
A. unreachable B. password protected C. Requires 3-6 months of straight skill point training
or
D. a combination of both (99% are D)
Am I missing something?
Yes.
EVE isn't about SP amounts. EVE isn't about instant gratifications.
You need patience and a very good attitude. SP limits are in place for 1 main reason, to prevent lazy spies from entering the corp. If you show good attitude and determination to a recruiter, 99% of the times the SP limit isn't that hard of a rule to join.
Also, USE the forums. In game search tool is bad and easily manipulated to make your corp stand out if you know what boxes to tick. It also is a 30 second set up thing...forum posts usually take longer to make and a good forum thread more or less shows that a corp is serious about running it and recruiting members.
Quote:Honestly. I am hammering this out, but am I missing something? Do I really have to wait this long and dig this hard to get into a community I can relate too?
No...
You can join a lot of communities from Day 1. It's the part where you have to find such communities where it gets rough for a new player. But EVE wouldn't be EVE if it didn't take brain cells, patience and some research to find stuff.
Quote:Trying very hard here to get this game, but at the moment my impression is: pay money to play the game so I... don't play the game?... What?
Someone help me... I really like what this game stands for, but at the moment... I see no reason to carry on with the subscription. I am not paying money for a game I do not play.
Then start playing the game. Do what ever you want to do for fun, don't let anything or anybody stop you from doing that. It's your money you spent on the game, so do what YOU want to do.
EDIT:
A great way to find people / corps of interest. Talk to people Join public community channels that are available to you (a lot of EVE celebs have their own chat channels, some "organisations" have one) and talk in there / ask questions. I think OP is not even reading this anymore, but I'll post anyway
You're missing out your own target: PvP. You won't be doing much PvP if you're scared of undocking because you're in the other faction area. You should have asked what are the consequences of this alert to your corp mates or even googled it, as there's a **** ton of material about eve
Anyway, if you're maing focus is PvP, the first thing you would needed was an income source, which if you want to do PvP exclusively would be a pain in the ass to get in the first months. You completly skipped that part by buying a plex, which is worth about one hundred very well fitted frigates. So the boring part is already out of the way, all you have to do is blow them up
Don't think you should avoid PvP because you don't have SP "enough" yet. It's worth nothing if you don't practice and you'll make stupid decisions and lose ships anyway if you wait for your SP to grow first. |

I think it helps to have a goal and to set out to do that goal, what do you want to do ? mining ? freight hauling ? covert ops ? battleship/battlecruiser sniping/damage/tackling etc.
Eve online is a very steep learning curve and whilst the community has its fair share of asshats due to the capitalism and piracy focus of the game, there are people out there willing to learn and help new players.
You are right however, that Eve can become boring, however, if you can afford to, try running 2/3 characters. Doesn't have to be multiple accounts you can skill train two toons on one account. |

Now I am just lost training skills endlessly...
I supremely enjoy PVP. The reason I bought this game was because of some of the awesome and thrilling large scale battles between warring corporations. So I thought, "Ok I will apply to all the PVP corps using the in game corporation matcher thingy what ever". I got one quick response. This guy was insanely suspicious of everything. He was absolutely dumb founded. He was in shock and awe asking me how I found about this corp. After a long and I thought fruitful conversation about many different things, I asked him if I could join. I never got a response... He just AFK'ed and I never heard from him again. Am I missing something?

You need to see it from the other side. If you are involved in recruiting and training of newbies (toons less than 6 months old) you will discover:
- Large amounts of newbies are just spy alts or corp thief wannabies. Not most but a significant percentage. It is much higher for hisec corps than nullsec IME but still is there.
- Even if you talk to the newb and he seems ok, there is a good chance he is actually an idiot. You find this out when he joins and proceeds to lose a billion Isk in ships in stupid ways.
- If you talk to a newb, you can waste tons of time talking to someone to have them just not apply. Newbs don't know what they want and are 'flighty' and easily distracted. Older toons usually know what they want/don't want and the conversation is quick and efficient.
- After they join, newbs are flighty. They seem to expect too much and lack their own internal goals and expect them to be gift wrapped for them. They think the grass may be greener and itch to explore and so many just leave the corp after a short period. Best to let em explore for a few months first before trying to recruit.
- Newb toons require much hand holding and explanation. This is time consuming and draining. Worth it if they stick around, but they usually don't...
TLDR - Newbs require much effort to recruit and train and usually are not worth the effort because they turn out to be idiots or flighty.
====
Therefore, a sane person and take one of 2 stances. They can take new recruits but 'throw em to the wolves' by not wasting much time on them. If they are still around in a few weeks and don't seem to be an idiot THEN invest time in them. These new people are rare though. -OR- set a min SP requirement. Most corps go the latter route.
I used to be very active in recruiting and very 'mother hen'-y for new recruits. I even helped newbs not in my corp!
Now, if you aren't in my corp and haven't been around for awhile and/or are interesting...I don't usually bother :) |
