Edited by: Lady Destiny on 03/09/2003 15:12:57 Edited by: Lady Destiny on 03/09/2003 15:12:34 Well I have a question on this most popular of topics.
Which ore thief is worse. The thief that sneaks up in an Indy and empties your can or the thief that targets your can and blows it to high heaven unless you pay him
Personally I prefer the ones that ask for reasonable sums of cash especially if they leave you alone after that. ________________________________________ For the female of the species is more deadly than the male. Rudyard Kipling

There's actually one worse than those two you just listed: One that uses an alt with a 0.0 sec status in high sec space to blow up the ore cans just because his bad-ass -6.0 primary character can't do it.
I've got a buddy who was approached by such a jerk. The guy obviously hated miners that badly that he made the alt just to be able to pick on them. My friend talked to him in local, even offered to pay him NOT to blow up the can and the guy did it anyway. Said he did so because it was 'fun blowing sh*t up when no one could do anything about it'. Nice.

if youre willing to train the time on an alt get cruise missiles up buy your alt a griffin target ore thief assuming their not in a indy and fire away then either run like hell or resign yourself to the loss of the frigate for the joy of killing the little bloody thieving bastard

Um, which one? The one largest working one with 720 cargo?
Hmm, Maybe if you litter a belt with a few dozen of them, you'll lag him so much he'll just leave the system.

So there you are mining away into your nice secure container. You refuse to pay the ore thief starts blasting your container with lasers. How long does it take him to destroy it? It is not indistructable it just has a large number of hp. ________________________________________ For the female of the species is more deadly than the male. Rudyard Kipling

It will take such a long time that it isn't worth your effort, unless you know it contains something very very valuable.

Surely long enough for you to fill it and take it away? Lol.
I think the main issue here is CCP fixing the huge secure containers? Until then, there's not much you can do about it except accept the risks of using unsecure containers to mine drop.
Mind you, I've just thought - If you've paid for a secure container then it is your property whether it is jettisoned or stored in your hold, isn't that true?
In which case firing on it in a 0.5+ sec system should be anact of aggression against the owner of the container, shouldn't it?
Someone needs to point that out to CCP, unless they actually are indestructible (I thought they were). |

They are not indistructable. There was a post of a pilot moving his Corp in secure containers in an indy (blueprints). His indy was destoyed and when he asked to get his cans for a fee, the pirates said they had already destroyed them, 'cause it was fun'.
I think most in his corp have quit the game now.
Nice one...

The worst ore thief is choice #3...the one that dies while attempting to jack your ore/money.
If #1 steals the container...he makes money...making him good at being an ore thief...hence a good ore thief.
If #2 gets money from you, kudos, and even more kudos if he blows yer can to hell anyways and leaves.
#3 is the only bad ore thief...because he isnt...

Okay, those pirate were jerks, but this guy is a dumbasss moving valuable BPs in an *indy*!?!?!?!?!?. He is clearly relying on invulnerable secure cans rather than common sense.
You can fit what, 1000 BPs in a shuttle? You sure as hell can fit every BP your corp could pssobily own in a small secure, can, put it in a Blackbird loaded with warp stabillizers and shield hardeners and move your corps BPs in relative safety, at least be able to escape a blockade. And if you're in a crazy area, bring an escort, one to warp in before the BP carrier and one to warp in after. Or you could run the blockade 5 minutes after downtime. I usually go through dangerous areas, etc. then, as no one is on usually, and certainly they're not very organized if they are on.
Or you could opt for massive speed, put the small secure in an assault frigate with afterburners, etc and be moving at 600 to 100 m/s whilst they try to track you in their battleships. Or you could load a heavy cruiser with shield hardeners and 2 MWDs to run the blockade?
Anything but an indy...
Regardless, Secure can's shouldn't be bulletproof. That was never the point. It is simply that you can't scoop them or open them without a password. It doesn't make you pirate proof, it just denies the Pker your stuff. You can sure *lose* your stuff, but they can't *have* your stuff (aside from your frozen corpse). Sounds fair to me.
An indy? LOL

Edited by: Champ on 05/09/2003 01:33:03 If someone starts shooting your container jsut jetison a new every 2 min and move the ore around, as theres a bug making him unable to see the real amount of ore after first viewing the container he wont know which container to shoot and meanwhile you get your hauler and haul it in :)
Anyway I prefer the #4 ore thief.. the one dead, buried and humilited in different ways in his grave...

With one or 2 or even 3 large secure cans your buddy could have laughed at this Griefer........
