in general there is perfect ship/setup/skillset for every mission so i think all of u got it right if it works for u. for raven it should go something like this. hi's: 6 cruise/seige launchers 2 slots put whatever u like common choice nos' or guns meds: ab, sb, sb amp and 3hardners 2+1 works usually gd as main+secondary damage, invi can replace ab for all damage missions. lows: bcu+pdu number can vary need more tank add pdu more dps add bcu. rigs should compensate imps/skills' shortcomings so add those after u do few missions and see what u need most. better modes will improve fit and time in mission so invest as much as u can. getting gd gist sb should be 1st on the list because its most noticeble improvment in other words think how many amps u need to get same stats from t2.

How on Earth does anyone get to run a X-Large shield booster for any length of time before your cap runs out! I have enough problems runnning a Large Dread Shield booster, and that was with 3 x T2 PDU and two CCC rigs fitted in my Raven, What skills are needed, and to what level, which would enable me to run a large/X-large shield booster with 4 active shield hardeners also switched on? That which does not kill us makes us stronger. The Universe is ruled by three basic principles- Matter, Energy and Enlightened Self-Interest! |

Well I use 3 hardeners. 1 invuln and 2 rat specific. You also need 3 ccc rigs and a tech II cap recharger in mid. With the cap support skills at V you can at least perma-run a gist B/X xl-booster.

Edited by: Gobblock on 15/02/2007 16:10:59 Edited by: Gobblock on 15/02/2007 16:08:53 Honestly, if you need to run a t2 xl sb alot your probably doing something wrong
The stuff i use relating to tanking:
4 mission specific hardeners (3 for easy missions + ab) 1 domination sheild boost amp 1 t2 xl sb 2 heavy nos 2 pdu t2
2 ccc rigs 1 rig that lowers cap use of sheild boosters
With that setup, with the nos running at ideal cap regen, i regen about 45 cap a second, and with everything running i use about 70.
I never really have to use my sheild booster more than 50% of the time, so that leaves me a nice margin of saftey, as long as you micro manage your booster, and keeping your cap at 33% as much as possible (short of boosting with a full sheild) even a basic rigged raven is more than enough for all but the hardest l4's
as far as skills go, i have +20% cap capacity, -25% regen time, and -8% cap use on sb.
You dont need an uber raven, they were an i-win button BEFORE rigs. Its more important to worry about kill everything faster than be able to tank the whole room for 45 minutes.

The only reason I use a perma-boost is for safety. I`ve lost ships to crashes/dcs before but with a perma boost that will never be an issue. With 3 BCUs in low it dont effect your dps much either.

trash the cap power relays, a mission raven is about shield boosting so they actually weaken your tank. replace them with 1 ballistic control system for faster killing and 1 PDU for better cap stats. train up your skills for shields and cap, then for powergrid and cpu and fit 2 heavy diminishing NOS. replace the large with an x-large booster.
then go on to train for TII PDU's, TII ballistic controls systems, TII hardeners and TII x-large boosters. i know it takes a while and costs some ISK but you need that stuff TII, period. fit 2 cap recharger rigs and maybe an eplosion radius rig.

The Raven will continue to be crap till you get your cap support skill up to leve IV/V. (energy system op, shield comp, energy man etc.)
Before you consider level IVs you should also have tech II hardeners, PDS and BCUs. I also suggest you use a capasitor booster when doing level IVs in named tech II gear only. 1 invuln, 2 rat specific hardeners a cap booster, an amp and a shield booster in mid, worked well for me when I started with level IVs. It should be easier now that you can fit on 3 ccc rigs.
In other words I suggest you find the best level III agent you can use and stay with him a bit longer till you have your support skills at the level needed for level Ivs.

Hiya guys, I have a question.
At the moment I can use T2 seige launchers (and the ROF bonuses the skill prereqs imply) while I have only level 4 in cruise missiles. Is it better for me to use cruise or siege? Perhaps a mix of both?
Thanks, Azraelion Nerevar

In contracts in Jita... And don't be hell bent on X-Type, B-Type is often almost as good and much much cheaper. X-Type is pure luxury, bordering decadence. --------- There is no 'n' in turret There is no 'r' in faction There is no 'a' in Kestrel

6x Arb Seige 1x Deminishing Nos
1x XL Shield Overload 1x Copasetic Boost Amp 3x Rat Specific 1x Phased Target Painter
3x PDS2 2x BCU2
3x CCC
With that, the Right Hand of Zazzmatazz nearly popped me more than once. Shield Management/Ops 4, Energy Management 4, Ops 5. I'm working on Energy Management 5, 60% there, but QuickFit shows me about 7 extra seconds before I'm below 30% cap still. Shield Compensation 2, raised to 5, adds another 10 seconds. And that's assuming the NOS is landing, which it isn't always going to be.
Considering refitting to:
6x Arby Cruise 2x Demin Nos
1x XL Booster 2 1x Boost Amp 2 3x Rat Specific 2 1x Cap Booster 2
4x PDS 2 1x BCU 2
Once I get Adv. Weap Ugrades (Weap Upg. 4 currently) I can switch PDS for BCU. My only concern is DPS from the loss of the Painter, the heavier hitting Torps (which also work better with the endless defender missiles), and the BCU.
Still, on paper, without NOS running and blowing the Booster constantly, she sustains at around 60% cap.
Opinions?

I wouldn't worry about the loss of a paiter - espicially if you are using cruise. I only really strap torps to my Raven if I'm running the blockade. For most other missions, cruise are pretty darn good and the painter isn't THAT big of a boost for the majority of ships.
Overall your fitting looks good. Very close to what I fit. I would suggest removing as many PDS as your tank can sustain with your goal being 3 BCU and 2 PDU. Although 3 PDU isn't that bad.
Also, I've crunched a lot of numbers and find that 2 rat specific hardeners + an invulnerability field is better than 3 rat specific hardeners.
My other recommendation is to save every last ISK you have to get yourself into a Gist XL booster. Yes, they're expensive (B or C = 500-700M) but they are worth every bit. They're cap use is so low that you'll be able to switch your cap booster for a cap recharger and perma run your booster. No more cap charges, no more micro managing of your booster. __________

1x X-Large Booster II 1x Heavy Cap Booster II (5 800 Charges) 4x Active Hardner (2x Damage Type II, 2x Invul II, or any combination needed)
One of more of the hardners may be switched for any other needed module including a boost amp, sensor booster, target painter, etc.
2 PDU II 2 BCU II 1 of the following depending on mission - Gravimetric Backup Array II, Damage Control, Signal Amplifier
Works for me in almost all level 4's, just have to be careful in some of them. Drones too of course. You might can fit something in the last two high slots but you'll rarely need it.

You should notice a lot of these setups are very similar, and with lower skills you'll need named equipment since you don't have skills for T2, but basically the same setup. Be careful not to lose a lot of isk this way, as its easy to do, good named equipment only makes up for so much lack of skill.

Changed my setup recently:
Bought a CNR and put 3 CCC rigs in
High:
7x Dread Guristas cruise missile launcher 1x Heavy diminishing NOS
Mid:
Gist C-type Xtra large shield booster Vepas' modified shield boost amplifier 2x Gist X-type rat specific hardeners 1x Invulnerbility shield II 1x CPR II
Low:
3x Domination BCU 2x PDU II
I get a perma boost of 752 shield with cap sitting at about 38% without the NOS being active.

Edited by: Traska Gannel on 23/02/2007 17:15:10 I've played around with a number of Raven fittings for level 4's - I started level 4's with only the skills for Tech I modules and no money for the best equipment. The only problem that occasionally came up was the need to warp out of the mission.
One key skill set I have found very useful for the Raven is drones - they work wonders with scramble/web frigates and when you get to Tech II drones backed with a good level in Drone Interfacing they are a significant boost to DPS.
My current setup:
4 Cruise II, 2 Arby Cruise 1 Heavy Diminishing NOS 1 Drone Link Augmentor (total 65km range on drones after training up drone skills)
Large Shield Booster II Quad-LiF AB 4 rat specific hardeners or 3 rat specific hardeners + shield boost amp I or large shield extender II or named T1 target painter depending on the mission
2 BCS II 3 PDS II
2xCCC + 1xWarhead Calefaction
5 x T2 medium Drones (usually Hammerheads (thermal) - sometimes Vespa (kinetic))
I am playing around with the rigs and the WC is the reason I haven't mounted 6 Cruise II since the CPU fitting is tight with my other skills. The WC gives about a 5% DPS increase after factoring in diminishing returns with the 2xBCS II.
I've also run a few missions with 2 Large Shield Extender II's installed - these effectively are much the same as an Invulnerability Field since they increase the damage the shield can take across the board - also since the shield is bigger the maximum regen is increased since the total regen time is constant. With two of these installed my total shield is between 17000 and 18000. If I was running missions in low sec then I'd consider a fitting like this since it might increase your survival time if jumped - on the other hand, I don't have any PVP experience so maybe not :)
When I started level 4's I didn't use the AB - however, I have found that it can be a very useful addition - I can keep range on the rat BS while my drones wipe out the closing frigates. Most rat Cruiser/BC are about as fast as my Raven with AB going.
As for cruise vs. siege - cruise has a generally higher ROF, longer range and smaller explosion radius - also guided missile precision increases the damage of cruise missiles against the smaller targets (of which there are many in most missions) - so I have found the cruise missiles to work well for most missions - though the battleships do take a bit longer to kill off.
When I first started level 4's the fitting was something like:
4 cruise I, 2 siege I 2 E500 large NOS
Named Large Shield Booster Shield Boost Amp I 4 Rat specific hardeners (Named T1)
3 or 4 PDS I 2 or 1 BCS I
5 tech I drones (usually thermal damage)
No rigs
The two large NOS can help with the cap if you are getting swarmed - however, I find that most large rats tend to keep to a range greater than 25km - which I can't close without an AB - as a result, the NOS didn't get used that much except against the rats that close up the distance which tend to be the smaller ships.
Anyway, just some thoughts - I would highly recommend getting drone skills up to the point where you can at least field 5 tech I medium drones - it makes things safer since they can usually help take out any scramblers before you are forced to try warping out.

lvl 4 mission raven: here is the catch I dont wana invest 700 mil in a SB becouse I'm running missions in low sec. + somtimes I get over confident(beer+wine) and ocassionally I lose one lol
High: 6 Arba. Siege, 1 Heavy Dimi. NOS, 1 drone link aug.(for vengeance) or a tractor beam, no much CPU left for somthing else. I can use T2 Torp launchers but eat's my CPU and power.. so I use arbies.
Med: T2 XLShield Booster, T2 ShieldBoostAmpl, 4 Active Hardners(rats specific. look in http://eveinfo.com/missions/4 for DMG tipes)
Low: T2 CPU upgrade, 2X T2 PDS, 2X T2 BCU
Important: 5 T2 med drones rat's specific!!!!!
Rigs: Cap recharger, Cap batery(dunno the name and is DT), Cap reduction for Shield Booster
Wat helps sometimes is a Low-Grade Crystal set of implants.
Wat missions are FUBAR for solo...:
1. Enemyes Abound(kills also you'r Gallente-Minnie standings) 2. Angel Extrav. the bonus stage(Gurista i can solo) 3. Pirate Slaughter(last poket is a killer)
Just remember how to agro, drones on scrambling frigs. etc.
