Hi, This is my first message on this forum so please bear with me! I was shot down by a player for the first time yesterday! Yes, it was silly of me because I was trying out a new Minmatar mining vessel in a 0.4 sec system, I should have known better not to venture into such insecure space so early in my career! There is something that puzzles me though. I was warping between asteroid belts looking for nice ore and I noticed that I was being shaddowed by someone in a ship type that I did not recognise. Then, this person targetted me, so I quickly warped away to another belt where I started mining. After a few minutes I was re-targetted and quickly fired upon, I tried to warp away but this time was cought by warp stasis ( not sure of the name )and after what seemed a very short time of being pummelled by some very impressive weaponry, my ship was destroyed but I managed to warp to safety in my pod. At some point I managed to get the player profile of the aggressor and noticed that he/she had been a member for less than a day! My question is how a newly created character can so quickly aquire all the skills necessary to pilot such a well equiped ship? Is this person using an exploit? Probably not, In which case I was fair game. I would like an explanation though!
Thanks all. PS I am thoroughly enjoying EVE despite this 'hicup' in my career!

are you sure you checked the employment history or just when he joined his current corp? Max sig image dimensions are 400w x 120h & 24kb filesize. --Jorauk [pinky/lilacplease]Tell me how to fix it, I resize and it still comes up that big. --> Tamu Vos [pinky/lilacplease] |

What ship were you in? You said it was a miner, so I take it you had NO defenses at all. Anything the size of a cruiser and less without shield boosters or armor repairers dies quickly to any combat fitted ship.

If someone targets you, dont run to the next belt and start mining. _______________________________________________

Yes you are right. Following a predictable pattern like that was a mistake. I guess this is all part of the learning curve!

c'mon guys, you know the only way to learn EVE is to venture forth into low sec. I'd say this was a good example of just that.
namrehtaew keep on mining watch for pirate, keep your finger on the warp button and ask some buddies to come along for support.

I was perhaps a little silly venturing into a 0.4 sec system ( the Minmatar system containing the Pator Tech School ). But I think in this game one should accept a certain degree of risk! Knowing there are so many pirates around, I'm not sure who I can trust to work in a team with!! This is my first ever experience of online gaming of any flavour, so perhaps I am a bit slow in coming forward to be part of a team. But I can see that teaming up with others with similar aims and experience is the key to mutual success in this game.
