Well iam Gallente and interested in the drone boat (Ishkur). But Iam speaking more for generalities. Just read a 2 page thread with people blasting noobs for using battleships too early but only offering vague generalities of what skills you really need.
So what I am really looking for..support skills, engineering, etc at what levels. Pretend you are a ew player, you have to get a basic foundation of skills to certain levels to be effective. thats the sort of information sought.
thanks :)

Cap skills to 4/5, fitting skills to 5, ability to fit all T2 gear. That's a good starting point, anyway

I would go for BC before AF. If you want to do 3's i think you will do alot better in the BC apposed to the AF's.

Ehh, a lot of people say you should get all t2 eq right away, but really you can work your way up while flying the ship. There's nothing wrong with breaking a ship in while you're still training some of the skills you want for it. I'd suggest getting 3s or higher in all of the relevant support skills, including AF specific skill groups like drones for ishkur or missiles for hawk. Then get the ship, and raise the skills that will make the most performance improvements. Oh, and don't forget to raise your navigation skills... assault ships tend to fly like bricks.

Incorrect, AF's are perfect for LV3's, my retribution can do any LV3, most with ease.
to the op. you could go for BC's before AF's but for missions your still going to need high support skill to do the harder level 3's, a BC has to absorb and tank damage where an AF can avoid fire completly.
you should have small T2 guns(specialization skill trained to L4) all gunnery support skills like motion prediction, sharpshooter ect ect trained to L4 at least. weapon upgrades and advaced WU are very usefull for fitting T2 stuff.
Engineering to L5 and Capacitor skills to L5/L4, shield skills if you a shield user to 4/5.
Mechanic to 5 and the rest like hull upgrades to level 4.
Navigation is good to have some skills to level 4, since AF's rely on speed.
electronioncs not AS important but the main skills to level 4 would be great.
just make shoure you can use all T2 stuff.

All T2 is not essential as such, but the skills you need to fit a full T2 rig are basically those you need to be effective in one, so it's a good target. As to L3s, AFs are probably the best ship in the game for them. Moreover, from a new pilot PoV just jumping into a BC is probably a bad idea - I tried an L3 soon after I qualified for a BC and died horribly.

I flew my harpy with like 1.5m effective SP (not counting the 1.8m in learning), and it worked perfecly for PVE. Got nice wreckings of up to 180 with just 3,3k in Gunnery.

AFs are sweeeeeet for level 3 missions. But if you want to be an actual 'tank' instead of relying on speed and your small ship for protection, then the battlecruiser is perfect.
Inty = tissue-paper armor AF = cardboard armor BC = solid plastic Dominix = concrete ------------------------------- Be Caldari, be proud. Haak-kin k'len

As an AF pilot, the only thing that worries me in PvE is webbers. I'll happily attempt any L4 mission solo if it has no webbers in - I'm not sure I have the damage output to complete all of them, but I can tank six Machs and a dozen or so cruisers indefinitely if I'm not webbed. It's not a conventional damage-absorbtion tank, but it's still very effective.

I am using a Brutix now for level 3's it does pretty good, and I have alot of skills to level 4, I am essentially trying to decide between Af's for a different way to do level 3's, or a Battleship to do level 3's and the occasional easy level 4, learning by experience.
The BC feels slow and clunky enough that the AF sounds really appealing, on the other hand Battleships are full insurable.. mistakes hurt less.
The Dominix would be my battleship target and immediate work on drone skills would ensue (at drones 4, scout drones 3 right now.
Basically either path would require lots of the same support skills.

weapon upgrades 5 is a must for gallente assault frigs due to the insane cpu in blasters. you will also need to be able to fit Micro Auxillery Power Cores (can't remember which skill you need, but it needs to be at 4). MAPC are a frigate's best friend :)

You're going to want electroncs V, and maybe some adv weapons upgrade and other fitting skills. Excluding the 1.5mil or sp SP i had in learning skills, you can be effective in an AF with maybe 1.5-2mil SP. Ofcourse another 1.5-2mil SP in various skills doesn't hurt either.
