I'm trying to decide whether to go for Rockets or Missiles. I was told before though that the rocket skills are kind of unfinished and not worth going for.
Whats the advantage of each, and does the lack of "rocket" skills compared to "Missile launcher" skills really hurt rockets in the long run? Do skills like missile barrage help rockets?

Rockets = short range, missiles = long range. Use whichever for what you're fighting against. Make sure to pick up the "secondary" skills as well, Missile Bombardment, Missile Projection, Target Navigation Prediction, Rapid Launch and Warhead Upgrades. Those will help with both rockets and missiles. -- Lil Miner |

TNP does not effect rockets (or torpedos) only guided missiles.
But you'll eventually want both types (they aren't mutually-exclusive), so you should learn them all if you want to become a serious missile user.

Edited by: BrookieDragon on 03/02/2006 06:49:20 I've never noticed a reduction in damage to missiles at short range. Is that true or am I seeing things?
If missiles don't have a minimun damage reduction then why wouldn't I use them all the time for when I want long range also?
And from the looks of it, most of the secondary skills that boost rocket/missile performance all require missile launcher skill and not rocket?

I'm pretty stuck as to figgering what I should focus on when working a assault ship. Standard Missile Launchers seem to be the same thing as Assault, just not as good, and Rockets seem to be just an alternate faster firing version (which I don't know if it does more DPS or not?)
Missiles have no range limit, they'll do their max damage (minus sig size and velocity penalties) to any target within range.
Rockets have a higher DPS than missiles. They're the missile equivalent of a blaster vs a rail gun. You have very high ROF, which gives very high damage, but very short range.
Assault launchers are the cruiser-size version of standards. They have a higher ROF but much larger fitting reqs, so you can't use them on frigs. They're also due for a makeover to be replaced with cruiser-sized rockets sometime in the near future.
