There's a few good options
One or a couple of:
Give a combined missile/proj rof bonus,
Increase drone bay,
Add a mid,
Or add a high.

Just flown this for the first time to duel a mate in a Brutix. Bellicose rocks! He barely hit me.
2 Med Nos 3 Heavy Launcher
3 Racial Jammers 1 Cap Recharger
2 Cap Power Relays 1 Small T2 Repper
If you know what you are up against it does pretty well, as long as you can keep the other guy jammed...probably overdoing it on the rechargers too. Dont forget the drones, it'll need the dps.

Here is what I have right now:
3 Tech 1 Artillery (I don't remember whether they are 250 or 280s) 1 Malkuth Standard Missile(I have had this for like 6 months) 1 Standard Missile 4 Drones (3 lights and 1 med) 4 Large Shield Extender 1s 3 Named Shield Relays
I have a real hard time getting hurt, and can almost AFK the level 2 missions I am on (I wasn't able to play much for ~5 months) (I haven't done Human Cattle recently, which blew up my first Cruiser (a Scythe))
I am thinking about putting on 3 Large Shield Extender Tech 2s, and 1 Invulnerbility feild or something.

Fairly cheap setup, with a bunch of the stuff coming from ratting. Was doing pretty good damage to a frigate (Amarr). Thats with little missile skills as well (600K or so). For anti-frig this could be a great ship with this fitting and a few more SP in missiles (maybe 2 weeks or so)?
Bascially, all CCP needs to do to make the Bellicose truly viable is take away the projectile bonus and give it a missile velocity bonus. Then it would be more useful. But we all know CCP likes making sure the Matari have at least a few gimped ships.
TP doesn't do much for light missiles. If in doubt, get T2 launchers and light precision missiles as backup or even main ammo. They're at -7.5% speed per launcher now. You wont be using heavy drones much on a Bellicose so that's not a reason for a painter. With the assault launchers you'd be better off with a disruptor, a dampener or jammer.
When you're flying together with battleships, the TP is a very good idea.

Try this, abit "unusual" setup but i think its pretty fun to take out and suprise anyone who thinks "Oooh a belicose = freekill" :)
3 280II 2 'Malkuth' Standard Launchers
1 ECM - Multi spec 1 ECM - Mult spec (this i sometimes change for a 10k+ web if im feeling rich) 1 Warp Disruptor I 1 Micro Cap booster
3 800mm Get the named if you can
This setup is unorthodox, packs a nice punch with drones and it can tank for long enuf time for you to get a jam. When you catch a setup with Blasters or AC that ar short range you can kick that ass to :)
And its the funniest ship i have ever flown

I recently acquired the belli after reading this whole thread. It was Taizu Liliths post that intrigued me, as most of my skills are in shield tanking.
I have been running with your 2nd proposed setup for about 2 weeks now, and as you said i can basically finish L2 missions almost AFK.
Current setup is as follows. 3 * 280's 2 * named assault launchers. 3 * large tech 2 extenders. 1 *Invulnerability field. 3 * shield rechargers.
I run with 7300 HP and a 430 recharge rate.
4 basic scout drones (which deliver very nice DPS themselves).
I still fairly new (660k SP), so i'm sure this rig can be easily bettered (medium cannons, or bigger launchers for instance).
It's working for me, and i can happily recommend this to anyone.

Med (4): 10mn Afterburner (25/50) Medium Shield Booster (50/12) Heat Dissipation Field (40/1) Kinetic Deflection Amplifier (25/1) => (140/64)
Low (3): Ballistic Control System (35/1) Tracking Enhancer (10/1) Co-Processor (0/1) => (45/3)
Base: 250 tf, 575 mw Uses: 341/321 tf, 685/690 mw (ENG 4, ELE 4, should fit with WA 3 if I count right, but as I said, I cannot test it yet)
Idea is to make use of the ROF bonus with the artillery - if I'm not mistaken, the guns should get a ROF of about 7sec (may skills). With good skills, you should be able to use guns and missiles from ranges at or over 20km; and the tracking enhancer should still allow enough hits for the artillery. Hopefully this will help reduce incoming damage enough that you won't need the shield booster often. If not, the ship has around 60% shield resists in all fields except EM (switch around hardeners/resistance amplifiers as needed for npcs).
The setup makes no use of the TP bonus, but that one is not that great anyway. Still might be worth to try out the difference with and without one.

Random idea and it's late, so please forgive me, but...
What about:
3 heavy assault launchers 2 nos (probably small)
MWD Web Warp scrambler Target painter
Lows of your choice (armour might be an idea)
Jump on top of your target with the MWD, scram, web, paint, rain of death. The base DPS of heavy assaults beats heavy standards, I know that much. Would it work out? PG may be an issue.

Mac... How do you fit 4 heavies if you only have 40 m3 Drone? Unless you have 1 in your drone bay and 3 in your cargo... otherwise it is impossible to do that. Loyal to Tech 1 Assault and Lotka Volterra.

The place of bellicose its not alone. Its with all lows fitted with speed mods. 3 Target painters MWD and painting targets for a Typhoon... If brute force doesn't solve your problem.. then you are not using enough!! |

Well i am putting this through its trials at the moment, it is a frigate killer with 30km range.
Highs 2x650mm scout loaded with nuclear 3xXR2000 assault missile launchers with pirahanas
Mid 10MN ABII ( gives it 639m/s) Taget Painter II Sensor Dampner II Sensor booster
Low Stab weap mount armour rep Nanite plate cant remember this one maybe reactor control Drone bay 3 EV600 Neut drones plus 2 Light Hornet I's
Now this does not stop them warping off but if they engage you should be able to nock out a frigate fairly quickly. Dampening them reduces all frig lock range to under your optimal.TP bosts their sig AB keeps al bar MWD at your optimal and SENSOR boster drops your lock time.
EV60o's nock 30 points of thier cap every 6sec so in under 40sec they are getting low on cap plus you get 30 hit points every 2 sec off the light drones.
My first trial on low spec belt rats the 2x650 nock out all the sheild on the first salvo

ecm'd a mega with this for 3mins stright and took him into half armour it's great for fleet ops but solo it's **** as they just warp away :(

I know Maggot(o/) will curse me for this, but I'd like to see Bellicose changed to a missile ship. Keep painter bonus, change proj. bonus to missile bonus and add launcher slots. Result is 2 T1 drone cruisers and 2 T1 missile cruisers ingame. Crystal-Slave, that way? Potential solution to the current Recon cloak and cyno bug |

I like the belli for some reason (I love all the ghetto looking minmatar ships).
I do some support work in fleet ops for Paxton.
Current setup.
H: 3 Heavy Launchers (I do missiles). 2 220mm AC's (Kill drones).
M: Painter. Sensor Booster I. 2 x Capacitor Recharger I's.
L: True Sansha Thermic Plating. Medium Automated I Carapace Restoration. Ballistic Control I.
I'm currently carrying 6 light armor rep drones. But I constantly change out for 5m3 Combat drones too (they chase inty's and such quite well).
In war I like this ship. You have a lot of flexibility with it for fleet ops. You can throw them away at half the price of the rupture and drones still do the same damage and have the same range (If you're into that).
Missiles too!
If you're in a war with a cruiser - you're gonna get popped at the first sign of any substancial fire anyhow. Why throw expensive ships away this way? Go cheap and go lots of them ;)
If I throw my 5 armor rep drones on someone's thorax and then get popped, I still did something worthwhile possibly. If I get to fire a few salvo's of heavy missiles at a BS or something, great!
Next 24 hours will allow me some drone upgrades for an extra 20km range. I'll swap a cap recharger for that gratefully.
RR. -- Be realistic with the cruiser class in war. This is a realistic wartime ship!

The Bellicose, like all EWAR cruisers, is not a solo ship, it is designed for a gang. The Bellicose is designed to let missile and drone battleships obliterate frigate and cruiser hulls without fitting small weapons.

Its funny that some people believe that a bellicose would never be called primary, mostly funny to me as I have been called primary in one during an op, if the enemy knows that your a heavy tackler they will go you.
Guys you seem to all ignore one powerful thing about the bellicose, its got 40m3 drone space, that can give you 3 medium ecm and 2 light ecm drones. Forget doing any serious damage in a bellicose when going out in op's, think support and tackle. If you have difficulty fitting all that you want then just fit 3x assault missile launchers for your weapons.

Current setup:
High: 3x 425mm ACs, 1x 'malkuth' heavy and 1x advanced 'limos' heavy launchers.
Med: 3x target painters, 1x stasis webber.
Low: med armour repairer, 200mm plate, fitting mod.
Will see if I can swap out the stasis webber for another target painter. Am also going to add another 200mm plate once I get my fitting skills trained up some more.
This ship is mainly going to be used for doing complexes/missions as part of a gang, which is why I didn't go for a rupture.
Any comments/suggestions are more then welcome

Heavy Assualt Missles using the Target Painter bonus against frigates would be rather nice.

If you believe that its better with missiles and better without target painters then just use another cruiser. Tho the Bellicose could do with a tweak, maybe even make it the only minmatar missile boat by changing the projectile bonus to a missile bonus, at this point in time it is what it is. With regards to the target painter bonus, I rather like it. Its Sweet for a change of pace and style.

My gang set up. part tackle / part paint the target bigger for fighters.
(Gunnery skills are still a bit low so missile afford me consistency. I can also orbit at 20KM for warp scram range which is past auto cannons effective ranges, and in order to use arty would have to sit still.)
3x Advanced Limos Heavy missile Medium arty/auto cannon that works with your skills if you close range. Pending skills may be able to add two depending on type (fit last)
Fleeting Warp Scram Parallel Weapon Navigation Transmitter (painter to make frigs bigger for your missile DMG and generally add more dmg output of gang) Phased Moun Sensor Dampener 10MN AB II
triple-sheathed adaptive nano plating 1 DCU II Plate
Drones depend on your skills and gang type. I carry VESPA II's x4 for DPS setups, if DPS is not needed throw in some EW drones and drop the sensor damp for a sensor booster.

I present the Bellicose of doom:

Meds j5 20k disrupt, fleeting web, mwd t2, LSE t2
Lows gyro t2, 2x overdrive injectors t2
4x hammerhead t2
Fits with all fitting skills at 5, with 0.4 pg and 5 cpu left.
Result: 4800 shields, max speed of 2800 m/s, 300 ish DPS
If you got the cash, you will get a machine that definately makes local go "LOL"

Very versatile i thinks because painters don't have tracking issue. With T2 i can orbit at 90km and 2550m/s. Targeting at 95km with modules, using painters great falloff and bonus is a plus i think. Or i can try closer to 40km orbit if i need to, then i can paint 2 target at optimal range.

yup.. this is exact same setup i came up with on quickfit except i chose 280mm artillary cannons and a cap booster instead of a web.. but ur setup is good too
