I'm afraid of one rising issue. As far as roids in space surrounding any stations is mined out, these rocks in deep space 20 or more jumps away from stations getting bigger and bigger.
Actually is no problem found belt where are Scordite and Veldspar rocks with 100km diameter. It looks like DEVs didn't put limits on rock growth and these roids, which will be never mined getting huge.
It's impossible mine belts which are 20 or more jumps from closer station except for Bistot. So I guess in few months when I will jump in deep space to belt my ship will not be able move because belt will be one gigantic rock nothing else.

Either set up a supply line using indies and relay stations/giant secure containers (when they're safe, ofc) or wait for mobile refinereies

I hope you are just kiding :) Even with refinery would you transport 20mil tritanium 20 jumps away?
Edit: My question wasn't about doing mine action 20 jumps from station. No one will ever do it because it's waste of time. I point at that these rocks grow without limits.

They will if it becomes the only large source of minerals. Now, wouldn't that be interesting? ______________________________________________

I think you guys are missing the point.
Once an asteroid gets to a certain size, it simply CANNOT BE MINED.
The range of lasers is not infinite. The range to the asteroid is to the CENTER of the asteroid. I have already seen asteroids that cannot be mined with Miner 1 lasers because you cannot get close enough.

Exactly and now are common roids with 100km diameter. No one can mine these beasts and they still grow!

Well, those mega-roids can be mined, i dont think the distancecheck on the lasers matter then, as i have mined those large babies at like 30km's - how could I do this, have you even tried? And on the subject, why not try to cooperate and mine further out into space? You know, the roids are bigger the further out you go (a bistot containing 2000-3000 anyone?), and relaystations with giant secures in a hidden place works (trust me, we are using it).

Edited by: Pirindolo on 27/08/2003 11:25:28 This is ridiculous and very annoying. CCP should have fixed it months ago.
Who can travel to a belt if the whole belt is 1 huge rock? Will some scordite rocks band together to form a megahuge monster and then eat all the surrounding rocks and even the moons, planets and systems as it continues growing?
This is the same problem of tiny rocks of bistot and crokite (check this post: Tiny Roids )
This system of growing rocks doesn't work. The respawn should take place at once and to a particular random but FULL size.

I witnessed that even kernite asteroids in 0.5 systems which are plenty, now spawn very little ore in them and after 2 or three times of cleaning these little ones they dont spawn again, it seems that every valuable asteroid is migrating through some unknown in game calculated code to less secure areas, currently I didnt find any suitable 0.4 and 0.3 systems with the quantity of (at least) kernite and even omber asteroids that I used to find before 2 weeks, in 0,7 0,6 and 0,5 systems accordingly, it seems that indeed the ore is migrating.
Calling all freelancers and small starting corporations!
Im calling all freelancers to organize a large mining expedition in 0.0 systems where we can stay for some weeks and each one of us will mine cary and stash any ore he can get, including protecting ourselfes from pirate attacks and regional alliances agression, the place of interest will be discussed in the future, as it has to be a place that can suit everyone. I hope that more than 50 players can be gathered for this expedition and we keep growing larger.
Anyone can Evemail me in game for details, only freelancers and corporations consisting from 2 and at least up to 8 active members are the limit. Larger corps can ally with similar ones and do the same, but this expedition is mainly for freelancers and small starting corporations.
All that may contact can ask and will receive adequate training on how to survive in 0.0 and be teached the tricks of efficient and high yeild minning and armed protection of minning operations.
Keep in mind that a preparation period lasting from a couple of days expanding to one week, dependable of the contactee player epxerience may in need for you to follow, and also some basic organization scheme that has to be discussed in order for the whole operation to be viable and succesfull. All newbies are welcome. Bring along every ship you can spare and can afford.

I agree, its very annoying having to wait 2 or 3 days after mining even an ordinary belt in a 0.8 system for the roids to grow big enough to be worth your time again.
I was mining in a belt and cleared it of omber and the next day the roids were back, but with only 200 omber each.

i see a 50's style b-movie movie idea.
the attack of the ever-expanding Scordite roids. They will be the new menace in the Eve Universe i tell ya
Can the attack be repelled before these monster roids hit Empire space? because if they do, a new menace will emerge.

Hello, shift your system of mining operations after you "do a sweep" through the belts.
I've been doing this since they patched to put roid growth in; no problems. Every week or so I move my indy and miner to the next system I'll be working in and get back to it. Costs me about half an hour typically to get moved.
Shuttles are friggin' awesome; love 'em.

the mining laser doesn't mine from the middle of the rock, it mines from the outside of the rock but you lock onto and the range is from the middle of the rock though.
So, as long as you have a ship with a radar powerful enough to lock onto the centre of the asteroid, you can mine any asteroid of any size. Main Everlasting Vendetta Veteran Member of the Stain Alliance |

If you have problems with 'roids, Preparation H seems to help most of the time.
But on the serious side,
Find a system that you can mine by yourself. You don't have to have belts spawning quickly. Just rotate belts in a quiet system and it should take care of the problem. Just like farming. :) (Real life farming, not pirate farming) Mining is this games version of farming.
Trust me there are plenty of systems in empire space that don't have any traffic at all to speak of. And to top it all off, mining scord isn't too bad. It may not be bistot or something like that but you get a steady stream of minerals and when it's all said and done you make fairly good money.

The asteroids growing up in deep space may not be that bad of an idea.
When player stations come on line setting one up in the same deep space so that you have near unlimited mineral supply may be good.
