M0o finally got me (not because I'm that good, but because I usually just avoid them). I'd once managed to slip through their old blockade in Mara a long time ago, but this time I wasn't so lucky.
I used my usual traveling procedures, checking the map for ships destroyed and looking in on local, but I didn't realize the blockade until too late. It was my own damn fault, I'd noticed about 14 ships killed in FD-MLJ and I decided it must just have been some new players getting killed by NPCs since the numbers were so low.
Unfortunately, I left my autopilot on and didn't turn it off fast enough when I entered the system. So while I was in warp I checked the local channel and quickly swore to myself and at myself. Starvos, Ad'rena, 12XSPEED, Sassinak and DeeCo all showed up in the channel. I silently (though futile) hoped they were at another gate while I got ready to run my hardener and afterburner. I guess I probably should have instead been ready to warp to a planet or moon, but even that may have been too slow. At least I knew enough not to go aggressive and get caught by the new gate logic.
As I slowed down from warp speed I had the telltale sign of slightly more lag than usual that often occurs at a busy gate. For the record, there were only 4 cargo pods or so and a bunch of drones along with the PCPs and the lag was merely part of the game and not anything overtly sinister. I hit the afterburner and hardener as soon as possible, but it didn't matter. Soon I was a pod and then soon I was a new clone.
I wish they would have given me the chance to pay a toll as I was in my Rupture with a fair amount of hard to find pirate drops, but as has been argued many times, anything goes in 0.0 space.
Thankfully I still had my A+ clone from the sale shortly after their introduction.

I've been caught out by that pesky autopilot too - I knew there was a blockade at Aurohunen but autpilot, for once, worked bloody quickly and made me warp towards the gate.
Fortunately, the blockade was being run by Tank CEO and another M3G4 member, so I had plenty of time to curse my lack of mwd or afterburners and skulked to a station to find another route.

Edited by: nem0nic on 25/08/2003 23:28:24 Edited by: nem0nic on 25/08/2003 23:27:14 I bought a Photonic CPU from someone in that system last night and saw what you were talking about. Alas I was puttering about in a (insured) rifter geared for speed (photonic locked away in a small secure). I saw the many pods, and was locked on by a BS just before i made it to a gate. I informed the seller that his system was blockaded and I'm not sure if it was my speed that got me through or him informing his friends not to open fire.
In any case, it's the first rush I've gotten playing Eve in a couple weeks. Sweet. And the price was good enough that I'd do it again.

Naht, next time take your chances with warping out, don't try to push through unless you've got a nice MWD or a couple crappy ones.
It's just about impossible to catch someone if they warp to a gate, see pirates, then immediately warp to a moon.
Hint: You can warp to something simply by double-clicking it

And if buying your way though a blockade is the way you want to go, do your negotiating BEFORE you warp the the gate.... or call for backup if you can find any.

Yep my Traveling Procedure is when i come up to the gate autopiot goes off and I manually jump into the sector "THEN" scan local and area THEN Click on Autopiot if sector is Clear till it starts warping then shut it off right away again Rinse Dry Repeat this has saved My A$$ many a time by not being forced into Warp the minute I come into the new Sector

Nothing wrong in helping a newcomer out, eh? Look at it this way, helpful information hopefully keeps the new players around so that we can plummet them after they load goodies onto their ships. :D Besides, we don't get anything good from blowing newbies into dust.

We've obviously always known this, we just kill them anyway simply because we can't distinguish between transportation and newbies, really.
That Ibis/Shuttle/Reaper might have blueprints/skills on it, or it might just be a newbie who wandered too far away from home.

For a bunch of people trapped and unable to go home, many were very thankful that we camped at the gates heading back in the direction of empire space. Many a thanks was sent our way for insuring many different corps could make it home. Most of the pirates last nite decided to log off rather than come fight an armada camping one of the gates. We ran into a badger last nite that moo had trapped down there for 4 days. Had fun watching m0o log off rather than tangle with us.
Side note: you pirates dont stay up to late during weekday nites. Great time to pass some gates would be 12ampst-downtime or server back up to 6am pst. "I Live in my OWN LITTLE WORLD....but its okay, they know me HERE!"

Since FD is the only way out of the Syndicate, it might be wise for corps in that region to bad together, take, and hold that gate to PD. Like Salazar said, many were gratefull that we camped the gate, but being so far from our base of operations, we cant do that all the time. M0o and Sinistar are formidable foes, but they can be defeted. There are enough corps up in that area to take control of that gate. Once you take the gate, make sure you hold it. As it stands right now, defending is a whole lot easier than attacking. Take the time and protect your fortunes.

Being bored is looking at a roid all day as you mine it, Watching pirates cuss because their lively hood is going down the drain, much more entertaining.

Yeah i took a look at my map the other night and saw 50 ships destroyed in that region. Luckily the detour wasn't very far but it would have been nice to see some local corps attempting to shift the blockade.

On my main characters I've been using bookmarks to gates to get by. If you find a gate open then make sure you bookmark it because you might not get another chance. There are also other people that are selling the bookmarks in and out of the dangerous Mo0 systems.
It's not a bad a idea to take an alt out there to spy on them and learn their infrastructure. You can also annoy the hell out of them too. Probably 30% of the kills they got in FD came from this char and other alts I run off a few accounts. Make them bored of gate guarding. |
