(Gah, the forums destroyed my original post. Is this text-eating normal?)
The short version: Stuck unarmed down a wormhole with a bunch of people trying to kill me.
The long(er) version:
I finished the tutorials, and decided i would try my hand at exploration. I scanned down a wormhole and went through, then started scanning all over again. I probably should have left straight away, or not even gone down there at all, but i figured that because said wormhole was -1.0, the gravimetric sites there would be the equivalent of nullsec, without the high risk of being killed and with a convenient 1-jump route to highsec.
So i scanned, but there were only 3 unknowns. So i scanned one down, then looked at the time and decided that i had better things to be doing. So I warped back to my entry wormhole, and lo and behold, a Phobos was waiting with a bubble-looking thing, and some nasty-looking guns. So i quickly aligned to a customs office (first thing i could think of) and tried to warp, at which point I realised what the bubble did So i just kept moving towards the magic 18.4kms mark. At which point the Phobos targeted me and a Cheetah warped in. Somehow I outran them both and managed to warp off. Seeing as i was in no mood to wake up in a vat of green goo, i warped to the other wormhole i'd scanned, being sure to use 'warp to 100kms' this time. Suddenly, they were both there again. Then i realised the awful truth: I'd spent the past 30 minutes scanning down the wormhole that i'd already come through. Luckily i'd landed just outside the bubble, so i turned around and warped to a random planet, logging off as i warped.
I'm an unarmed, newbie player stuck down a wormhole being hunted down, presumably just for laughs, as a loot drop of 8 scan probes and a launcher isn't much.
So when i next log on, assuming i'm not back in my clone station, what should I do? |

Login right after DT and have a lot of luck. Quite frankly, you proly do best with explodifying your ship and your POD.

also, try coming at the wormhole from different angles -- you might get lucky and the bubble doesn't actually cover all entry/exit routes, and you can get through.
or try and talk to them, see if they'll let you pass as you're a fresh out of the goo newb. |

Just FYI, they have no way of knowing you're not a scout for some group of experienced wormhole people, while they will probably enjoy trying to kill you, they likely see it as legitimate and justified defense of their space.

As said, log in as close after DT you can and make a run for it.
If you can't get past them talk to them and see if they'll let you pass. If it comes to the worse, self destruct your ship and pod, but make sure your clone is up-to-date enough before you do it!! |

Just some tips for your future wormhole explorations:
1. First thing you do when you enter a wormhole is always assume YOU ARE NOT ALONE.
2. Next thing you do when you enter a wormhole is bookmark the exit.
2. Then you hit your dscanner - your Directional Scan. Make sure you have angle set to 360, range set to max (just put 99999999999 in there and it'l default to max range), and active overview settings OFF for this first scan. When you scan, if you see structures - Force Field, Corporate Hangar Array, etc., - or other ships, you ARE NOT ALONE. The occupants might not be online, or they might be, but if you see anything on dscan, odds are they know you are there.
3. If you see nothing on dscan, take a quick look at how far the furthest planets are from your position. If all planets are within 14au, your dscan has seen the entire system. If the furthest planets from you are more than 14au, then you need to warp at range to a planet somewhere out there and dscan again.
4. As you warp to the farthest planet(s), drop a bookmark mid-warp so you have a semi-safe spot to actually scan from.
5. If you are incredibly lucky, you will find a wormhole that is empty and can drop probes and scan at your leisure.
6. When you are scanning, you can see little thumb-tack icons on the solar system map - those are the bookmark(s) you've already made. If you notice a signature is really close to one of those thumb-tacks, then you know what that signature is and do not need to scan it down completely.
7. Another tip for avoiding excess scanning is while you are at the entrance of the wormhole, drop just one probe and set it at .25au, and do a quick scan. It will quickly tell you the signature and you can simply ignore it.
8. Never forget that anyone who lives inside the wormhole knows it way better than you ever will, considers it their home and you an invader/trespasser, and will hunt you down and kill you if given the opportunity.
9. If you find yourself stuck/in trouble, it never hurts to try to talk to the locals. Don't be whiny, and don't smack talk. Just be real, be yourself, and sometimes, people will actually help you out.
10. Don't forget to bookmark :) What you do for yourself dies with you, what you do for others is immortal. |

Thanks for your help everyone! I was succesfully able to escape the wormhole by scanning down another one (My old 'entry' one had disappeared along with it's bookmark oernight. Coming to think of it i don't think i should of entered when it was "reaching the end of it's natural lifeline") and logging on straight after DT. And there I was thinking that a humiliating self-destruct or more humiliating kill mail was the only way out I'm now sitting in a station, in some random lowsec FW system, trying to mine some more expensive ores than Veldspar and Plagioclase, while dodging pirates who seem to have nothing better to do than chase frigates across their scanner all day. |

You should really join a good player run corporation. That is allways my first piece of advice for anyone new starting eve. |

Welcome to new eden friend.
It seems you have and are having quite the adventures, and the best part is they were all based off of your choices and the choices of others.
Not some sort of on the rails game system that limits what you can do and when.
Enjoy your freedom. |

I'm really enjoying your attitude! What a great sense of adventure you have! :)

Just as a future tip, Sometimes it's possible to squeeze past bubbles, if you use a safe spot as the starting point. Especially if it's a safe spot that's not directly between two celestials.
For reference:
A safe spot is a bookmark you can warp to, that's not a planet, moon, station, other thing on your overview. makes you that bit harder to scan down. just add a bookmark while you're in warp, and you have one. If you go to one, then warp to another celestial, dropping another bookmark on the way, even better. Ideally you want to be over 4 AU away from anywhere.
In this instance, they'd change your incoming vector to the wormhole, which might give you a bubbleless approach. maybe. |

Sounds like quite an adventure you had :)
It might not seem like it now, but as a new pilot you are in the best possible position to explore 0.0 space such as wormholes.
Your clones are cheap and expensive implants aren't going to get you your frigate V measurably faster.
You are literally in a position where insurance covers your loss pretty much and stand to stumble into amazing riches at little to no risk.
Assuming your adventurous spirit is undamaged by these events, look at getting a jump clone installed somewhere with no or cheap implants ( just one for your primary skilling attribute if your really cheap, but most null dwellers run about with 2 moderate implants ).
when entering a wormhole, it's probably best to make a bookmark 150km+ from your entrance hole to allow you to check for bubbles.
In addition, if you have even a cheap cloak, you could warp to your tactical and slow boat it to the hole with a good chance of not being caught. But this would require you to be able to warp in without landing in the bubble in the first place :)

if you don't have the standings for jump clones (8.0 does take a while.), try a service like Jump Frog. Just train up infomorph psychology (3 makes sense as it takes little time.) then join them, make your clones, and leave.

No kidding. I need to take notes from this guy. I've been in game 2 months now and I think the most exciting things under my belt are a pod flip (received) and a shortcut through low sec where I didn't see anyone at all.
Now I feel all inadequate. |

Yes.. enjoy being squashed like a bug over and over again for months until you finally figure out how to play the Whack-a-Mole game yourself. Not very entertaining, I admit, but there it is. |
