meh i can see another round of mining to replace lost battleships etc - now there is a business idea - ie simply sell ships in the regions that suffer the most crashes and lost ships. I can see HAC prices going up further

Originally by: patz Today, I discovered this game. All the time at work, where I should have been working, I dreamed about playing it. Now, finally at home, I downloaded all those 500mb. I installed it. I registered my account. I started EVE Online. I was currently choosing my race. AND WHAT HAPPENS? SERVER CRASH! You can't imagine how disappointed I am. Server crash while choosing the character race. Just imagine that. I don't think that I will ever play this game again. Or only after its renamed to Eve Offline.
thank you very much, kthxbye.
Lol thats sounds sad also if you didn't manage to create a character then how the **** did you post this in the forums.

Considering we have the opportunity of having such a great game available to us, you'd think people would be a little more appreciative even if the servers go down for a short period of time..

I wish people would stop complaining in droves, we all hate unexpected down times, but atleast its bringing the server stability issues attention. Think of it as EVE-O's second start up phase - I bet the server had some problems when the game was first released, and in my opinion with the steady influx of new players its like a second release of the game, so new hardware problems are bound to pop up.
Lets just hope CCP can gain control and iron out all these problems before releasing the new patch

Yep of course the server goes down when you have a short skill training in the same way as you can mine for hours with no sign of rats, but get the hauler out and they will be swarming all over your ass. But hey guys if it was all as chit as some of you make out we wouldnt all be here now would we.
And heres an idea if you have 3 accounts close 2 of them and keep the third then we could all play in peace without your macro mining accounts taking up our valuable bandwidth.

Folks, until we know for sure what happened, theres no-one saying it's your ISP or anything else.
Please try and be civil, no doubt we shall hear something soon enough.

The expression is "hooker's knickers". I think it must have come from more genteel times cause I bet London hookers don't wear them now. Can anyone confirm this?
I was waiting to be CONCORDED after killing a MM. I wonder if it classed as an exploit if I have not been killed?
I think the expression is actually *****s drawers as in it goes up & down more often than a *****s drawers ( or fiddlers elbow if you are being polite :-) )

Originally by: kieron We are attempting to determine the cause of today's network issues. At this time, reports of a major network outtage with long distance re-routes appear to be the cause. I have not received any notification e-mails that would signal a server issue.
For those that are asking for compensation for lost time, CCP is not responsible for connectivity issues between the client and the server. If there is a connectivity issue with your ISP or someone in the route to CCP other than our immediate ISP, that is an issue to take up with your ISP.
Where do i send a request for the prorated refund for downtime to ?
I can trace to the server. but the last hop (your server) times out so it = down. Also when i try and connect i get "proxy not connected" So this tells me your net work = the issue.
and now when i try and connect i get "starting up in (451 seconds)
Please send a first class stamped address to CCP, Iceland, Up North Somewhere. We will refund your ú0.002 within 8-10 days.
it would be a $0.062 refund but if they were going to give out a refund i sure as hell would do it, it would cost them more to issue a check/money order than the refund its self, therefor i would do it just because of that.
If every one did so, CCP would be on hard times replying to the thousands of letters and mailing them back out.

well the recent problems have been ISP related ive spoken to my ISP (non eve websites were timing out left right and center) apparently there have been routing problems on the big ISPs of late esp in the UK and the US causing global internet timeouts and all sorts of traffic issues - one of the many worms as well as a spike in spam emails clogging up bandwidth
SO yeah its not just CCP not by a long shot

This is NOT a "oh well it's only a game" argument.
If there are possible upgrades for performance or the apps, then they should be fully load tested on the test/dev servers beforehand, not on the prod setup.
If the game has a maximum capacity of users that can safely use it, then it should be capped until it can be safely expanded.
I'm a software engineer and a unix techy, so I understand what must be frantically going on in the background - but there is little excuse for dropping a service to paying customers - full stop.
Hi Elaine Doi, since you are in the party, you know that it all depends on the SLA (Service Level Aggrement) between the Service provider and the customer.
Unfortunately, this is true for the service providers but the contract CCP has with the player, the EULA, is much more "loose" and there is no availability commitment at that level.
BTW, I am working for the other number one IT company in the world (the one with two letters) in a similar dept. as you :)

The "proxy not connected" is not a Network error, It means that the Proxy has been disabled to stop people connecting to the cluster, whilst they get it working.

Hmm...what's annoying is that when I login it keeps showing me the countdown until the server gets back up, but then after the countdown is done it says proxy not connected and starts over again.
Anyone else get in yet?
