PYFA.
I cannot remember when I used EFT at last. I use Linux and Windows and EFT never worked well under Linux, which is I switched to PYFA and never looked back. So now when I think of EFT do I think of old, saggy boobs. Loss is meaningful. Therefore is the loss of meaning likewise meaningful. It is the source of all trolling. |

When a major patch comes out that changes ships, I download and use whichever one gets the update out first. Then from sheer unadulterated laziness I continue using that one until the next update comes out, and I see who is first the next time around. Lather, rinse, repeat.
For the most part they do the same thing, more or less equally well. But there are gaps here and there.
One difference is that the DPS graphs in EFT will take account of offensive modules other than guns, so if you have webs equipped, it applies the web to the target within its maximum range and factors that into the damage applied. Pyfa does not do this.
EFT also lets you import "after plan" characters that you export from EvEMon. So if you have a six month or a year skill plan queued up, you can't just do an import and export to see how your performance will improve between you now and you in six months. This is actually a pretty big deal if you want to see what actual effect all that training will have on your performance down the line. Pyfa does not do this.
There also is a broader difference in the development direction of the two, at least at the moment. The import character thing has been asked for in Pyfa more than once over the past couple years, but the current main Pyfa developer (not the person who originally wrote it) has ignored all requests for useful features during that time, and does not view them as a "priority," because he (or she) is too busy doing a "ground up rewrite" of the underlying engine, which will supposedly fix a whole bunch of things that don't actually appear to be broken.
EFT appears to be pretty stable, and when things change it's usually to tweak or enhance; the developers do not appear to have put features and bug fixes on hold in order to spend all their time reinventing the wheel instead. |

I've been playing a bit with both. Pyfa offers somethings that EFT doesn't - tracking speed being one that was really bugging me. EFT seems a bit higher on the usability scale to me, but it might also be that I've just used it more. Trying out all the things to do here in Eve - it's quite a checklist. So I made a blog Jakob's Eve Checklist |

Forget them both use EveHQ.
It is a big clunky program (in terms of system resources etc) but it does everything that Pyfa and eft do combined with character management/development that Evemon does as well as basic industrial tools and items/WH database that are good for reference purposes.
I especially like the requisitions feature where you can create a fit and 'requisition it' and it'ss show you where all your gear for the fit is and if you need more or have a surplus - simple, basic but very useful when you have **** scattered across the galaxy like I have. That is the Way, the Tao.

EFT has awful clutter
PYFA is really bad at projecting effects
EFT doesn't show tracking in colums
PYFA is a bit slow
EFT graphs are ******* awful
Basically if someone merged the both they would be awesome. BYDI recruitment closed-ish |

PYFA sometimes shows scanres numbers that are not even close to ingame numbers. And what Garviel said about projecting effects. You can load scripts to projected modules but those script don't change a thing. |

I have tried using EveHQ several times with some time in between. Everytime there is some nasty bug that stops me from using it. Once it couldnt download market prices, another it just kept crashing and crashing. It looks awesome though. If i could get it running i would consider using it. If i could get it running and it was cross-platform i wouldnt use anything else.
I use and love pyfa. I want something that is cross-platform so its a no-brainer for my usage. |

Both are good and both show not exact numbers at some point, I do use both and compare stats differences some times but it's more about having an idea of the fit I want, undock with and check fitting window info that also is not always very accurate. *removed inappropriate ASCII art signature* - CCP Eterne |

Personally I like the UI of PYFA better. The nested windows format of EFT is friggin annoying.
I don't know what is wrong with projected effects. Usually I am projecting a fitted ship onto another which works just fine.
PYFA can lag a bit. |

You can't project the same fit onto itself, you need to make a copy of the exact fit and use that, which while it isn't impossible to deal with, it's annoying for RR ships of all kinds. |

I like EFT's ability to auto-import fits from the clipboard. If you have the text block of a fit you can have a look at its stats in seconds. thhief ghabmoef |

Yea but with copies I can assign the actual pilots to each ship anyhow. I've never found that to be a problem. |

EVE-HQ, the new beta has a market downloader from EVE-Cenral, has a complete inventory package, training queue package, theoretical ship fitting (With Eventual skills settings as well), manufacturing calculator with real time profit and loss, and an Evemon import feature that makes switching from Evemon, EFT/PYFA to EVE HQ a no brainer.
Yes you will need to download and install some additional Microsoft database stuff and .NET stuff but the install should take no more than 10 or 15 minutes for an average PC user. I have been using it for several years with very few crashes (Only one that I can think of off the top of my head) and the response to requests for help in the EVE-HQ forums is usually very quick (Both times I have needed help there was a response in less than two hours).
So EFT or PYFA? Depends on what system you want to fail with.
