This is sort of a rant but...
I am running missions for right now, have not fully played for a month and learning the ropes before I move onto a pvp style corp or something.
when I get rogue drone missions I cringe. They are little bastards. Hard to hit and in my cruiser using mids, I have to fit smalls and web and go after them. Thats fine.
Why can't they be worth isk like rats are? small bounty, even 1000 would make me happy and ok to kill them.

Some of the alloys they drop can give good amounts of minerals, but in general they are crap for rewards. Try Navy/Fleet agents they tend to give more rat missions than Drone(but you still get some drone).
Other than that go for range, and bring a few sacraficial light drones. Set your drones to attack first then pop the rouges at range whist they concentrates on your drones.

Pick up the loot from those missions and refine it, and you'll see why its worth doing them.

Hmm, I've been selling the shiny rocks whole and making a ton of cash. Maybe I should try refining it.
As for killing the drones...SMARTBOMB all the way. They like to fly in close. You can pop them in 3 hits and take em all out at once. Makes loot clean up a breeze! :)

Edited by: Brastagi on 05/12/2005 08:30:46 Kill them at optimum ranges. When they get too close... Release your drones, use webbers and switch to antimatter ammo. And watch them mutilated.

Edited by: Wet Kitten on 08/12/2005 19:33:49 I was also told the minerals are valuable, but I don't see how the minerals compare to a clearing of a rat complex. The minerals only drop from the tougher drones for one thing, ie. Mammon, Belthagor, Moth, Mosquito, etc drop NO loot and have no bounty and are IMO just a nuisance that you must spend time and ammo to kill.
Using complexes as an example: Clearing a 1/10 serpentis drug outlet gets you quite a lot of ISK in bounty alone (if I had to pull a number out of my ass I'd say about 150k for the entire complex) as well as a cargo FULL of modules, and possibly some nice rare ones. The serpentis die much faster in my experience, using missiles or turrets many die in only a single missile unlike drones which take up what seems like 5x more ammo just to break their shields.
I've taken to clearing the drone complexes lately because they are much less crowded than other pirate complexes, and I like the simplicity of only dealing with the ore as loot. I often won't see anyone in a rogue drone infestation sprout for 4 hours at a time. I want to believe that isn't the only good reason to do them, however. Perhaps later I'll do some real research on the total payout and cost (in ammo) of clearing drones vs other pirate types.
Something else that just occurred to me: Rogue Drones don't even give any security increase, do they?
P.S. Regardless of my hate for drones.. give me a drone mission instead of a Kill-the-Habitat mission ANYTIME.

I don't understand. I have no difficulty whatsoever with drones, even when I flew a frigate. What complexlevel are we talking about? ----- FreeHansje
