Hi all
I have never ventured into PVP before and have decided it's about time I did, however I cannot get my head round the the multitude of electronics and engineering skills!
Basically, as I am Gallente I will be using their ships, and want to fly a 'blasterthron' - ie get up close and shoot someone in the face in my Megathron (when I eventually buy it!).
What skills should I train up? - I already have drone skills maxed, and have nearly trained up large blasters - but as I say it's the electronics and engineering skills that leave me baffled.
Also not just elec/engineering - any other skills you think are appropriate - throw them in!
Any help would be greatly appreciated
Cheers

To fit a decent blastethron setup you'll need:
Electronics 5 Engineering 5 Weapon Upgrades 5 (and trust me on this, you need ALL the CPU you can get) Advanced Weapon Upgrades 3-5 Cap skills 4-5 Gunnery skills.. the more the better of course, but strangely enough they are the least critical in the whole setup (so 4-5) MWD use cap reduction skill at least 4 (don't remember what is it called atm) Mechanic skills at least 4, to have a decent ammount of armour Drone skills (9 drones, heavy at 4) Navigation and other speed skills as high as you can get them
My personal suggestion is to get a Thorax (or 10) and fly that until you really get the feeling what is it like to fly a blaster ship..

I'd back up what the previous poster said. I bought a megaT without having the right skill setup, and managed to loose it in the third level 4 mission I did. As for PvP..... Dunno, not tried it in the Mega, but 1 mega = 10 t'rax. Better a ship you can throw away, rather than throwing away all your isk on one ship.

Many thanks Andarvi
I agree about maybe getting used to 'up close and personal' in Thorax's first, so will do that!
If anyone else has ideas on skills keep them coming - I will get into my 'thron eventually!

The one peice of kit I trained for that made a MAJOR difference, both on T'rax and mega was T2 Armour repairers. I'd treat these as a priority.

Originally by: Andarvi Gunnery skills.. the more the better of course,
Controlled bursts is a must for Gallente ship pilots.
Originally by: Andarvi Mechanic skills at least 4, to have a decent ammount of armour
You'd want the Hull Upgrades skill for that.

Seconded.

i would also train repair systems to 5. helps alot with tanking. controlled burst to 5 is a must (hybrid use alot of cap) On a blasterthron a heavy cap booster can be very effective (certainly with upcoming patch(cap charges will take less space)) So train the skill needed for that aswell.
and most of all that most peepz forgot so far.....BS level 4 at least. if you have the time train it to 5 :)
electronic > train for the use of warp scrambler webifier and if you have a tackler with you > tracking disruptors.

Thanks Sable and Dutch
hmmmm 'Thron seems to be quite skills intensive - but I will get there!
Have been looking some stuff up and Blasterboat (rax or thron) combat seems to go along the lines of:
See the enemy Hurtle at him at top speed (MWD) Heavy Drones out Blasters in his face Break his tank before your cap runs out
So it seems that I am looking at skills to cover:
Cap use (and recharging?) Armour tanking Webbing / Scrambling Max damage from blasters Max drone skills
Should I have something to do with Nosferatu's as well?
Looks like i'll be busy training for a while!
Thanks again and let me know if i am way off with the above!

You also need to learn to piloting skills tbh.
Leaving the microwarpdrive on will suck your cap dry in no time. Learn to manage cap etc as it is precious.

Thanks Deja
Sorry I should have been more specific - was assuming MWD to close range then Web/scramble (so don't need to keep MWD running to stay at optimal range)
Right, I reckon we are looking at these skills to level 4 or 5 (just engineering/mechanic/electronics type ones - not including BS and Actual skills for turrets etc):
Electronics Electronic Upgrades Propulsion Jamming Energy emissions (if using Nos) Engineering Energy Management Energy grid upgrades Weapons Upgrades Adv Weapons upgrades Acceleration Control Armour Repair Remote Armour repair
not sure about the difference between the last 2?
Anyway - does this sound right?, any glaring omissions?
Cheers

OK I took your list and revised the levels (and stuffÖ)
This is what I consider the minimum requirements for flying a mega (engi/elec/mecha/navi):
Electronics V Electronics Upgrades III Propulsion Jamming III Energy emissions (if using Nos, III) Engineering V Energy Management IV Energy grid upgrades IV Weapons Upgrades V Adv Weapons upgrades III Acceleration Control IV High Speed Maneuvering IV Hull upgrades IV Repair Systems IV Energy Systems Operation IV Signature Analysis IV Mechanic III Evasive Maneuvering IV Navigation IV
As you advance, you'll want to train many of them to V, but first concentrate on getting everything on this list to the level listed. Then you will do fine!
