tactical shield manipulation Operation of shield hardeners and other advanced shield modules.
Bonus: 5% reduced chance of damage penetrating the shield.
well, im basicly wondering what this darn skillbonus is good for? do they like improve shield hardeners, do they improve shield resistance? or is it only to let you use more advanced hardeners?

It increases your shield uniformity. Since you are using your shield as your primary tank you have no way of repairing your armor, so you need a good shield uniformity so when your shield gets low your armor dosent take damage.
Also I believe you need it at level 4 to get the new <insert Damage Type here> Compensation skills :)

All infos AFAIK ;)
When your shield is nearly gone, you will suffer damage to your armor. TSM reduces the chance for such "penetrating" hits.
And (of course) it may be required for some more advanced skills in the future.

needed at lvl 5 for the nice 55% hardeners also. 55% EM hardener is kinda nice when trying to cover that 0% hole

No, thank god you only need it at IV (link).
You need it at V for Capital Shield Boosters, though...

The new specialist hardening skills (Coming next patch I suspect) will require this at level 4 as a pre requisite

Not really. I have only been playing a short while and I know that the higher the skill, means less damage 'leaks' through your shield, on to your armour. You can grab me in game if you have any other questions, mate, I'm always happy to help out the more inexperienced players.

Roflol.. not to be a ***** or anything.. but Darth is definetly not a inexperienced player.. nor do i consider myself one.. the damage leaking through your shields was a old feature afaik.. havent seen it happen to my shipps for ages... (atleest not after the cold war patch)
but thx for the replies guys! gues the skill bonus is "out of date" atm.. maby they'll fix it, renew it.. what ever. conclution is that the skill is only to lett you use shield hardeners atm. and the bonus is something old.. ^^ "From my rotting boddy flowers shall grow and I am in them, and that is eternity" ♥RUBRA♥

Sorry but to disappoint you but it is still happening and should you ever want to use a T2 XL Shield booster you will also like this skill a lot.
The skill bonus is real and might just come into it's own when CCP is happy with combat length and will let us target individual ships systems... (soon™) ------------------------------------------- Should you disagree with me, well I guess that is because I disagree with you. If you have a problem with that please feel free not to tell me. |

You're wrong, I have bad shield skills being Ammar and have tried this out - the amount that leaks through since training is lower, almost unnoticeable, since training to level 3. Just because you have been playing longer, don't assume that you know more than me.
As I said, if either yourself or darth solo would like to talk to me in game about any aspects of EvE you are unsure about, please feel fee to do so. I'll be happy to help.

There's not really anything pointing to that since they've been on sisi since forever (at least around Shiva a year ago). I'd expect it to have been mentioned in one of the dev blogs or dev posts about increasing hit points. As they have not, I believe they're just there to be really implemented sometime.
But boy, do I wish for them soon. I trained Tactical Shield Manipulation 5 because I had nothing else to train in Engineering (which is what I really like to train), and no, I'm not planning on flying a dreadnought anytime within the next decade.
Hammer, go fix me some Engineering Skills, please!

why would i like this skill a lot, if i am to use a T2 XL shield booster? acording to the Item Database, the T2 XL shield booster requiers: Primary Skill Requirments
Shield Operation V Engineering I
what am i missing?

Yeah you probably would.. anyways.
I only have that skill at lvl 1 (never found any reason to train it up more..) caus the damage leacking through the shields were so darn lov, and it only happend when you were belov 20% shield HP or some thing..
if it happens now.. its so unnoticable they could just remove the feature.

Edited by: Eldred Bonecrusher on 25/11/2005 18:33:01 Shield tankers know this skill well....especially as you are really getting drilled and are low on shields and trying to conserve cap.
Edit: Actually last night in my harpy i took about 20% armor damage with about 15% shields cause there were 4 sentry guns beating on me...then i got to abotu 20km and the transversal went up.

hm perhaps changing the bonus to les cap use per level for active shieldhardners might be better. or even more resistance per level.
Anyways i've never had damage 'leak' through my shields unless my shields were totally gone (this was with tac shield L1)

It seems that different ammo types have different hidden effects. Titanium Sabot ammo used to have a very visible capability to turn armor and hull to dust while the target still had loads of shield left. That effect has been reduced, but it is still visible.
