+1 for option to disable transitions. I could play Retribution on my laptop but Odyssey is killing it.
(FYI: I do have a real gaming computer but I also like to play Eve when I'm on the road...)

Read the test server feedback, assume that those providing that feedback are not purely trolls:
Remove the offending issue/s!
So far Odyssey is the start of the journey towards a new Spaceships MMO ,as EvE Online is no longer fun, avoiding the motion sickness, the poorly though out load scan animations, control moves & mini-games!
The whole animation from arriving outside the line of the gate, getting the camera yanked to the centreline of the gate right up to the flashing pizzas after the destination gate is vomit inducing!
& feeding the trolls: No you cannot have what little stuff I have! Could Klang take the (now rotting) pizzas & the launcher out as they leave the building plz. |

I am sorry for those adversely affected,. The instantaneous massive increase in rotation speed when the camera changes to align with the gate. The sudden change of point of view is what makes me feel sick. I barely can play the game, in fact I am almost not playing anymore. Simply there is no way so that you can keep that animation and make it not make people feel nauseated, unless you slow it down a LOT an make jumping take a lot more time. A hint for your powers that are, STOP with wars on things that hurt no one! This type of change is SAME old stupidity as forced captain quarters. It improves the gameplay in NOTHING! Therefore you should have built it with a turn off switch! I build software for over 15 years and never saw a company more stubborn about forgetting the on /off switch on non essential features! Anything that is too fancy, flashy and has no FUNCTIONAL purpose should be an OPTION on ANY SOFTWARE!! Even windows Aero had to do the same. LEARN THIS LESSON!!! Aaah good, an expert. Please, tell us all how to simply and efficiently put an off switch on a hard coded effect tied to a major game mechanic. Do you just need to mock up a check box? Isn't technology wonderful.... Personally I think that if they slowed down the camera swing speed a lot of the issues people have would go away. I suppose they could also consider slowing down the speed at which the Jump Tunnel rushes past you as well. I rather like the fact that if you are on autopilot (and have at some point selected the outgoing gate to focus your camera on), when you get to the next system your camera view smoothly rotates in the direction of the next gate you will be warping to... which is what everybody does anyway.
When He MADE the cahnges he shoudl have foreseen this OBVIOUS issue and kept a way to usea normal loading bar. SIMPLE to any software engineering worth its pay. Sorrty but that its true, that is such a BASIC mistake that I would have advised for firing any of my underlings if they had implemented somethign this way.

You'd have to ask the original programmers to get a precise answer to that one, although there are a number of possible reasons to do so from a programming point of view.
Often the biggest hurdle CCP faces in introducing/changing systems in EvE is not the technical challenge of creating code to do so... rather it is integrating that code into existing legacy game code (often created well over a decade ago).
So you find yourself with situations like this, where implimenting the new effect to tie into everything else as it exists can be done in a reasonable time frame... but ripping the guts out of several systems to impliment it in a way that allows an "off" button is a vastly larger and more time consuming project.
They have said they are trying to pinpoint the parts of the effect that are causing the disorientation a few people are experiencing, which is the logical place to start. If they modify the effect so that it does not cause discomfort that is the main objective... all else is fairly superfluous.
Let me clarify something. I say "a few people" not to down play the fact that some people are experiencing discomfort... obviously that is something to always be avoided where possible. However a dozen responses on the test server, and the posts in a couple of relatively small threads (many repeated posting by the same people) is not a significantly large portion of the player base. Instead of complaining that they don't just rip it out (or go through a significant rewrite), you might consider that it speaks well of them to look into making adjustments so quickly based on such a relatively limited amount of negative feed back. To carve a successful niche for yourself in EVE you need to be able to out sell, out produce, out fight,-á out run, or out wit your competitors. If you can do none of the above, your only option is to complain on the forums that somehow you are at a disadvantage using the exact same tool set-áas the rest of the player base. |

Question to CCP regarding the new jumpgate effects:
Did you check or do any tests to see if the new jumpgate effect would have a similar effect on people as flashing images on televisions? It appears to be standard nowadays on television news programmes for there to be a audio warning if flashing images are about to be broadcast. One of my friends and a long time player of EVE Online is going to have to stop playing EVE Online due to the new jumpgate effects. He has put in a petition about it but has not received a response and is somewhat depressed about the situation to say the least. I realise everyone was excited about the new jumpgate effect at Fanfest this year. 'I was there' and was also excited about it but I think CCP should have put some work into this to see if it would produce this kind of reaction for some people. It does sound like there is not going to be an remedy for this situation based on the CCP post for this subject which is somewhat unfortunate for all those people affected by it. |

Wow, the self-appointed Eve-O-Code-Expert entity "Ranger 1" is checking in again. Maybe you are now able to explain...
1. what enables you to claim the said changes are "hardcoded" or irreversible? Did you work for CCP as a programmer? 2. why you are constanty ignoring the fact those dislikes expressed here are just by people experiencing health problems.

Also nothing is irreversible in the programming world, it's just a matter of time. 1: Nobody claimed that they were irreversible. The question is would it take too much time and effort to be practical.
2: I'm not ignoring the fact that there are those who simply dislike the new effect. I'm saying that those that are experiencing discomfort have a legitimate gripe, while those that simply don't like it are whiners attempting to use the legitimate complaints others have to lend legitimacy to their own petty agenda. I don't care if you don't like the effect, I do care that some people are experiencing discomfort due to some parts of it.
Maybelater, I realize you are doing your best to bump this thread as often as possilbe in an attempt to make removal of the new effects seem to be a wide spread demand, but outside of those individuals experiencing disorientation it's simply a matter of taste... and those that don't like it appear to be in the distinct minority.
Lets see what CCP can do to allieviate the discomfort some are experiencing and go from there. To carve a successful niche for yourself in EVE you need to be able to out sell, out produce, out fight,-á out run, or out wit your competitors. To OP: look away from screen during jumps. Just like I do.
I went to youtube and watched a travel animation of a loli-person riding a dragon for 10 years. Then they got to a gate and went through a warp tunnel and yeah, there's a bit more shiny in there but Eve could do that. What they do instead is DON'T make you go through several RL birthdays to go from system to system.
I'll take Eve's effect, even if it's a little less shiny. |

I am sorry for those adversely affected,. Hi,
As I said, for my personal case I do not fell well by this effect, but I am far from some extremes cases of this topic. And beside the moments I transport valuable assets (and so that I prefer do each jump with full attention), I use auto-pilot and alt-tab so... but if it remains, it won't motivate me to return to 0.0 one day as I will have to be annoyed by this effect all the time.
I think that my problem is the camera. Eve Online is a 3th person view game in all situations, but the new jump effect is a 1st person view. It makes me unable to avoid the brutal full speed (and stop) moment of the effect, while I have to see it in a view that my brain don't recognize as the rest of the game is 3th person view only. In a standard warp, I can move the camera to counter any annoyance...
Making an acceleration and deceleration step would partially solve the problem, but it is unacceptable as it would make jumping too long.
A better solution is to offer an option disabled by default, who stop the automatic camera movement and give us full control, like the rest of the game. I doubt that it would destroy all your efforts or require too much coding, and even if there would be some graphical glitches, I won't mind as long as I can move the camera to get an acceptable view by myself. |

I must admit, playing EVE is going from fun to not.
Fun before, was to run explorations in 0.0 Now, a #"%#"-ñ% minigame - if i wanted that, i'll go play another FB game - this is EVE for crying out loud !
Fun before was to prep, scan down sites so you could capture miners or explorers - thinking they would be safe in in their sites until they could see propes on the overview scanner..
Fun before was to jump 20 jumps to jita, go shopping and returning with a handfull of ships ready for battle. Now, only way im going is to the toilet to puke, if i try to jump more than 5 jumps.
This expansion is just on par with incarna. Ruined so much for me, that i stopped playing for a full year. I guess this will top it, so job well done! |
