I've been a player of other games online for years, from QW thru UT n CS, Camelot, and a whole host of others. This game is the first in my entire history of playing ( according to friends still buried in other mmporg's /fps'ers sitting in the same room) That has had me sat in stunned silence hours. You've worried them, because I haven't been back to join them with my 50's in DAOC since I picked the game up at the w/e. It's so complex, I've been waiting for this style of game since I first played Elite on a BBC model 1, over 20 years ago. I really can't believe it, some incredible designwork, I really am gobsmacked at the level of detail you have acheived.
Fair play, well done, and thankyou. You've made this (heading to be an)old man very happy. ;)
P.S. I think you'll increase your sign up count a fair dealin the UK btw, by accepting switch/solo cards. I'd really really seriously consider that point.

Nice post, I agree totally. There's too much flaming of the game on this board. Anyone with any MMORPG experience (EQ a prime example, I played for 3 or 4 years) will KNOW that these game's go through periods of crashing, unable to log in, bugs, patches, downtime, nerfs, stuck characters. EQ was worse than Eve, from my experience, even several years into the game, and that's with SOE's massive financial and dev support.
This game is an awesome achievement, I'll continue to support it. Bored? There aren't enough hours in the day, we're now flying our first couple of Apoc's from our print (not bad for a 5 man team), this game is what you make it.
The biggest problem for me, is the continued negativity from a (small) portion of the playerbase who over-exercise their right to express that through these boards.
The game's not perfect, but it's a damn good start, and I'm looking forward to where we'll be in a years time :)

aye
I love the game wholeheartedly
I don't mind the "minor" flaws. But there is two really big issues
The lag in combat is by far the worst. Becuse it stops the game from being what it is supposed to be. Once you can fight with more than 4 ppl involved, I'll be happy.
But not untill then

Too true. There are alot of posters here who really need some cheese with thier whiinnnee.
I've been in several MMOG's and this, so far, is one of the more stable. I've played one game where they completely reset the universe TWICE and everyone started at square one. Ive been noob slaughtered in med"evil" RPG's by griefers so often that dying was becoming a trained skill. I've seen all sorts of outlandish exploits and bizarre bugs. Compared to these past games Eve has only minor bugs. All we can say to the whiners is if the game is too slow, too hard, or just not right for you then shop around. Try other games as well and then come back to Eve to see if any of the changes suit what you want to do. You can play more than one game. I would give this game 6 months of play. See how it evolves and then decide what to do from there.

Dear Nooblers,
It's fine and dandy for you to make these rosy posts, but wait until you lose those apocalypse battleships due to a CTD or CTD/reboot. Then you will be the one feeling the pain. That's what happened to me, mined for ages to get a battleship, and lost it to a CTD.
I agree that the game CONCEPT is fantastic, and if they EVER fully develop the game and move beyond the paid-BETA phase, it could be awesome. But I am really worried that it is entering a period of freefall, as many people are now cancelling their subscriptions due to the neverending litany of bugs that only seem to get worse with each successive patch.

I believe you made your point in your own thread on the subject. Yes it's a horrible tragedy that you lost your battleship. Now go away and stop hijacking other threads.

Overall EVE is a great game. I enjoy it very much.
It does have some design flaws that need to be ironed out, but certainly nothing that makes it unplayable.

I agree that it's a great game, although I can't wait for the real devs to get back from vacation. I think they are more in tune with the balance of their game than any other MMORPG company I'm aware of, although it seems the people most responsible for that competence among the vacationers in the last few weeks. I have lost a couple of cruisers to crash bugs, but at this point I can produce blackbirds for 2.1 mil so they're basically pocket change. :) ___________________________________________

I have played a lot of MMOG and this one far outpaces the competition. I know there are many issues involved with gameplay but what online game does not have them. I also play Star Wars Galaxies and this game kicks its arse...

Been on a computer since 1986.
EVE is by far the best game that I have ever played in the last 17 years! This includes games from all platforms, including the much loved (by me) The Final Fantasy games 1-10.
Anyone who flames EVE needs to go out and play a few thousand of the REALLY bad games out there first. (like me)
Long live EVE!!!

This is perhaps the most beautiful, yet the most complex and "real" game I've ever played, and I really really hope it would be successful. I can go on for pages about the things that astound me about this game.

Aye EVE has me hooked.
I never played EQ, but I did play UO and this is a cake walk compared to the release of AOS, I still get cold shivers thinking about those 3 wks that were unplayable.
Also, *noob question* How do you log onto the Chaos server? I know how to create the seperate folder and patch manually, but every time I use my log in name it says invalid. Anyone have the answer? ------------------------------------- Interm-CEO for EVE Marshals http://www.EVEMarshals.com |

Our small corp has been going guns for quite some time now.
I Started as a combat character and earned cash and items for the corp before the balancing patch came in. After that it was difficult to be a corp producer.
So i found otherways to be helpful.
Now i am a fulltime miner and im training mining skills, and it doesnt bother me at all. I mine knowing our outcome of the work. It's never boring cause we are in this frenzy now fueled by the aquirement of an origional BS bp copy.
I love this game cause it has great potential for empire building with the help of friends.
I play CIV and build a huge empire and kick ass, game finishes and there no one to share it with.
When we get a BS origional 20 of us are happy and very pleased with ourselves, We have each other to congratulate and each other to show of to. Then we have 6k+ other players to show em of to.
We can sell them to others to use and they then see our efforts.
When i play this game i think of the outcome of the more mundane things.
Yes i am babling now, but what i am trying to get at is i love the scope, the potential, the fun this gives me.

I'm thoroughly enjoying my stay here. Yes, there *are* bugs, but I'm tolerant enough to realise that something so mind-bogglingly huge is bound to have some 'odd-moments'.
As far as the original poster - Those are the same words that got me playing Eve.
A friend at work said, 'I just found this game, it's like Elite, but MMO' I nearly shat my pants right there in the office.
3 hours later I was installing it. .

Edited by: Aodha on 06/08/2003 09:30:13 Im also a BBC Micro Elite player. Been waiting for the online version for years and here it is....
What do I think? Great! However .....
I would like the Eve community managers to be more involved with these forums. I wish that Eve players would put more effort into making content in-game than whining on the forums. CCP test fixes more thoroughly. ie. Autopilot is still broken after numerous fixes.
Then we would have an all time classic like the original Elite on our hands....

Edited by: Tentimes on 06/08/2003 11:44:06 I agree. This game is awesome and has an immense amount of depth. I too was an Elite player - this is Elite MMOG with extra. I've gone from miing to fighting to commodity trading and playing the markets. Then the empire building etc - wow!
The problem is they gotta pay very close attention to it - with a game like this you can't afford to let it drift or the bugs/inconsistencies screw wreac havoc (just read the boards)
Also, with so much complexity there needs to be *much* better communication.

Hehe made my first major mistake last night, saved 300,000 to buy the skills needed to fly an industrial, brought the wrong races industry skill, then before I realised it, I had sold it for 2,500... Stupidity on a global level. Like a self inflicted CDT....
you see, I don't need to find bugs to cause me problems. I can create better problems myself : P
