I'm currently in the process of learning all the tier 1 learning skills before anything else on my mining character on my second account. What I'm wondering is, are the second tier learning skills that big of a deal? Do they make a noticeable difference? I can afford to buy the second tier learning skills and get them all to rank 5 next since I can supply my second character with isk from my main on another account, but I'm not sure if the waiting time will be worth it.

Hiya,
Learn all the main learning skills to level 5 and then the advanced skills to level 3 or 4. There is probably little point going for level 5 on the advanced at this time. bringing them upto level 3 or 4 will do you fine and you should see a noticibe decrease in learning times. Training the advanced learning skills to level 5 will take huge amount of time for very little back.

Agree! got mine trained to lvl 4 with the exception of logic and with my starting attribs combined it now means that some of my skills take 1/2 to 3/4 the time they would if i only had just tier 1.

ps the 1/2 to 3/4 statement maybe incorrect, i was just using it as a comparison!!!

If you're going to take the time to train the first-tier learning skills to lvl 5, you may as well invest the extra few hours to get the second-tier learning skills to lvl 3 at least. As the other replies say, the difference is very noticeable.

Exactly how much it's worth depends on your starting attributes but let's assume a starting attrib of 8 in both primary and secondary skill.
The difference in the amount of training you get per month between standard learning skills at 4 and advanced learning skills at 4, assuming you got the skill "learning" at 5 would be around 300k sp per month.
That's the same as taking a rank 1 skill from 0 to 5 or a rank 5 skill from 0 to 4 every month!!! So yes it's very much worth it.

Just going to agree with the previous posters.
If you do take any basic learning skill to 5, then it almost doesn't make sense not to take the respective advanced skill to 2. It takes almost no time and will pay for itself almost immediately. Taking the advanced skill to 3 will pay for itself in a relatively short amount of time. Taking the advanced to 4 will payoff, but will take a while. A few months for each. Taking the advanced to level 5 is probably not worth it unless you're really serious about staying in the game long term as it takes nearly a year of constantly training skills with that attribute as primary in order to "break even".
Having said that, one of my characters has 3 of the advanced learnings to level 5 and the other 2 both have clarity 5. Guess I'm here for the long term!

I look at it like this: Taking a basic learning skill from 4 to 5 takes around around a week give or take. But once you've done that, it only takes a few hours to get an extra 3 points to your attribute with advanced learning.
So I don't think of going from 4 to 5 takes a week, I think of going from 4 to 8 as taking a week (well, plus 5 million ISK for teh advanced book) so jumping 4 levels in a week makes it very attractive.

For me at least, I just finished training my advanced skills. I took Eidetic Memory and Logic to IV, since those took like 4 days each, but saved 2 days of training for each of the three remaining Learning skills and all my other main skills like Engineering, Electronics, Industry and Science.
I just finished taking Clarity and Focus to III each. Doing so cut my Industrial IV -> V skill down from 29D to 22D and a ton of time off all my other skills. Taking those skills to IV wouldn't save me time right away though, so I'm holding off on that training till later. -- Lil Miner |

Within your first month its advisable to get the regular 6 learning skills to level 3 or 4. However, by the end of your first 6 months, I would highly recommend that you get most if not all of the Adv. learning skills to level 4. It pays off very fast.
Don't get them too soon though--it'll stop you from learning skills that are immediately important to your character. Never be afraid to interrupt one to train a skill you need for a module. - Proud member of the [23].

Indeed wise words again from Dark.
A lot of new players start the learning skills to 5-8 and complain that they cant have fun being stuck in a ..... ship.
My advice is about the same as Dark`s. Traqin the basic learning serie to 3 that ll only take a few days at most. In between train whatever skill you need to at least use the modules you loot/need and want to use. After that train them to 4-5 while ofline use your online time to either let them run or to train short skills.
After a month or 2 train your advanced skills to 3-4. At this time you ll probably in a cruiser and skills will start to take hours/days, so the investment is worth it.
The most impoortant skill training advice is: train first what you need to have fun to 2-3 then the rest. Dont feel like you need the advanced skills before you can have fun.

It's just the end of my first month. I've had my Intelligence and Memory learning skills at 4, and my Wisdom and Perception at 3 (I'm an industrialist/researcher). Now I'm moving my Instant Recall to 5, and will immediately begin training Eidetic Memory to level 3 or 4 today when Instant Recall is done training. I'll then proceed to do this to my Intelligence skill as well. THEN I'll see if this knocked off any of the 20+ days left on Production Efficiency 5.

Similar plan here... except once I got advanced intel/mem to 3 I will then take learning to 5 (usingthe new extra 4 levels of intel/mem will reduce that time) to get that 2% atttribute bonus. Then work on game skills. Less than 2 days till intel 5 is done :)
