I have a wife, and a job (that I often work overtime on, I just came out of a few months of not playing even because of work) and I'm ranked #28 on BC.
http://eve.battleclinic.com/killboard/combat_record.php?type=player&name=chatgris
In the last two years I've been out of game for at least 6 months, and the rest of the time I've been working and married. In that time I've moved up from ~ 300-400 in rank to under 30 (and the higher ranks take a LOT more time to advance on). |

Show up in fleets when you can and be enthusiastic/positive. Don't be an arse or cry when you die. Get some nice kills and treat people with respect. Not top of the killboard? - well who cares if you're doing all the above? Reputation by word of mouth is a lot more important than killboard stats. |

Chatgris soaks up bc points like tampon. But his point is valid.
At least with respect to battle clinic you don't need as much time as you do cajones and fitting/piloting skill. Sitting in a blob all day may get you 100 kills but each kill might only be worth a point. Figuring out a good fit and learning to fly it so you can beat allot of the ships you see out there can earn 200 points in about 2 hours.
Sure same pilot with more time spent will be ranked higher. But that makes sense. Being in eve longer you will experience more types of pvp and learn more. Make faction war occupancy pvp instead of pve https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&m=53815&#post53815

Accept it.
Any alliance you join will have people in it with more time to play than you have and/or are more autistic.
I work 40 hours a week but still manage to keep active and even FC fleets.
Do I get the most kills in our corp/alliance? no.
Are they happy with me? yeah.
Am I having fun? (the MAIN question you have to ask yourself). Hell yes.
What really helps is to join an alliance that uses jabber (or something similar) to "ping" ops. That way you can just pretty much literally log-in, get in a ship, undock and kill sht.

Establishing a PVP history can open some doors.
My first corp had trouble finding a nullsec alliance that would accept them because of the limited number of kills.
IAC finally accepted us because we were able to show a pattern of attacking -10 in Rancer almost every day (aside from days when they docked up and sucked their collective thumbs becasue one of us suddenly showed up in local)
... and we showed a pattern of low-sec roams, active PVP, reasonably active FC's and a willingness to take the game to the next level.
That first opportunity to get into nullsec and start playing in the big leagues soon led to us being able to grow corp and attract new pilots. AAA eventually ganked us right out of Catch and back into high-sec but the seed (and the network) was planeted.
Our corp went on to join several other upstart entities in nullsec and eventually grew both in numbers and competency until we flew with Sc0rched, Dead Terrorists, SYS-K, and several CFC entities, incluiding putting everyone and everything on the front lines to fight the DRF.....
Our original corp has now all but disbanded but our guys do well. WE are FC''s and or linch-pin (and/or valued) members in Goons (etc), Raiden, Nuli, INIT and several other null-sec heavy weights. What started out as a noob corp in some bas-akwards corner of low sec with nothing to our name besides a vision and a dream has delivered content to our members beyond imagination.
and why?
Because of kill boards. At every step we took we were able to prove that what we *said* we could do could be backed up by facts.

I laughed! You're right though as far as top killers being unemployed, in school or on some sort social assistance. The majority of them are. I currently work part-time for IBM but I'm able to put 4 - 6 hours a day into the game. You may also be keen on joining an alliance that has allot of large fleets out you can ***** mail on or gate camp a busy system.
Probably the best thing you could do to pad your kill-board statistics is join RVB. |

The guys I used to fly with get 15 kills a month in wormholes. I used to average 50-100 a month (including POS crap).

Find a better killboard.
By better I mean one that trys to judge your skill rather than just your number of kills.
Although I don't think theres a single KB out there that does a good job of ranking kill difficulty tbh.
2v1's score half of a solo kill on most kb while being about 90% easier to achieve.
Remeber kb ranking are a ballpark at best.

I think you are looking at this a bit too black and white. Killmails are a consequence of pvp so they add to the fun.
If it weren't for killmails the only consequences for most pvp would be isk and time spent reshipping and stocking new ships. Other than the loot you might get, these consequences tend to be negative. The Killmails are some potentially positive consequence.
Eve is a sandbox so lots of people will find different things fun. One thing I have fun with is theory crafting new fits and then testing the theory on tq. I try to design fits that will get me lots of kills of all sorts of different ships.
I then discovered that battleclinic in an imperfect way loosely tracks a persons success at doing that. So gaining ranks on battleclinic is an offhand goal that adds to the fun.
Of course the goal is to have fun. But what things do you find fun in the game? The answers are going to vary from person to person.

I work for a Hospital, so I can't call in sick and play eve or systems die and people die. Play about 5 hours a week currently, peak at about 12-15 when I feel more inclined to play. If it's BC rating you are after it's all about solo and willing to fight outnumbered, it's not about time or number of kills. People that just blob about like girly men will never achieve a high rating.
BTW chatris is a boost ***** with HG snakes, don't fight him. This statement has nothing to do with the fact he just passed me on BC. He also has 3 alts that are stabbed he uses to lure unsuspecting noobs into traps. he is a bad bad bad person. http://thewaysofthemew.blogspot.com We are recruiting - https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&m=1823364&#post1823364 |

There's tons of PvPers who fight outnumbered all the time and do just great. I'm still kind of mediocre at it, so I don't have much to show but a few multi-kills. But if you look up some of the best PvP vidoes, like old Kil2 before the *acquisition* or Garmon or **** like that, you can see guys going out and taking 1v2s, 1v3s, and all sorts of other ****. There's a vid on EveIsEasy that shows like 4 guys engaging a 16 man gatecamps and getting a handful of kills and escaping with no casualties. It's not easy, but it is doable, and many of the best PvPers got there by learning to fight the blob. This Space Intentionally Left Blank |

By not letting it bother you?
You have to manage your time. If you only spend an hour playing but kill 50 ships and someone else spends 10 hours playing and kills 60 ships, who is the better player?
Don't try to get #1, try to maximise the fun you have in the time you want to spend on eve. If that makes you #1 on some kind of list, good for you, but if it doesnt: meh who cares? |
