P No 03 wrote:For all of those bashing CCP for "not fixing the issue." Please by all means, go do it better. They've brought you the game and services thus far and yet you complain about a simple launcher issue...the gaming community is saddening. Have some patience I'm sure they're working on it. The issue is not just that they broke the launcher.
It is that they broke something that they did not even have to touch, the old launcher was better for multiboxing as many EVE players do. It worked equally well for non multiboxers. there was no need for the new launcher, just as there was no need for WiS with Incarna.
If that is not enough reason to be mad at CCp, the launcher was on SiSi and did not work. its use was optional so most players including myself just did not use it because it did not work. They ignored all the complaints about the launcher on the test server and put it on TQ anyway. Even though many tester had problems with it.
What they should have done was gotten it working perfectly on SiSi first, then went live with it. If it bugged then at least they would have an excuses. But sending a new launcher that they new was broken to the live server was a huge mistake. Saying they did not know it was broken is BS as the feed back on it was almost all negative with many players not able to even use it.
What i see is a return to the pre incarna mentality where they ignored the player feed back and did their own thing. We know how that turned out. Not to say that there would not have been problems if they had listened to the player feedback, but at least the players would not be able to say, "I told you it was broken. Why didn't you fix it before it went live?"
in reality, CCP has done a very good job with EVE. They have had several very good, nearly bug free expansions, they were over due for a bump in the road. It just would not have looked so bad if the launcher had stayed in testing until it actually worked. It was still not working on SiSi a few days ago when I tried, It has not been fixed there. Why would it work on the live server when it did not work on SiSi? Why did they not make it optional like it was on SiSi? As I said before, the problem is not just that there was a major bug in the new patch. It is that they knew it was not working properly before they released it, yet they released it anyway. |

And another quick but fundamental point, What's the point of "Single Sign-on" if you are A. running multiple accounts on the same PC or B. actually using the client?
I don't know about you but when I'm playing eve, I have it full screen and I'm not trolling about on the forums. Yes I get it that you could log in through the IGB and read the forums but I could count the number of times I've done that since creating my account on my toes....

So I ran Eve Repair tool, it downloads a 19MB patch, then I get this:
WindowsError: [Error 5] Access is denied: 'C:\\Program Files\\CCP\\EVE\\launcher\\launcher.exe
Did you close the launcher before running the repair tool? That error usually means the file is in use. |

I've resorted to bypassing the launcher till you guys go back to the drawing board and fix this.
Why do you need to add more hoops to jump through to get online?

So after being able to update the launcher I was excited to see how nicely it had come along from the pervious version. Upon further inspection I realized that CCP took away the bloody login screen! smh. Why did you do that? Why?! Please bring it back because I would sometimes just sit and watch the login screen for a while and I would love to have it back please. |

The launcher is not working through the Steam client. Just getting different Error Codes each time I start the launcher. I have run the repair tool several times, open and closed steam several times and still can only run the game through the bin folder with none of my saved settings? Is this going to be fixed? |

Seriously, who the hell thought that changing the launcher and nuking all my settings was a good idea, I honestly want to know so I can start a petition to have them fired. Apart from a litany of problems with it mechanically, the damned thing is simply ugly and nothing more than a giant ******* Eve advertisement FOR PEOPLE WHO ALREADY GIVE MONEY TO CCP. You can't tell me that my settings couldn't be salvaged, that's a bullshit excuse and only somewhat works if you admit you scrapped alot of good developers for rookies who will just do what they're told and churn out factory grade garbage for the executive board. CCP should know by now how anal retentive and detail oriented their player base is, and know how big of a stink even changing the font would cause, much less SCRAPPING MY ENTIRE LIST OF SETTINGS. As if that weren't enough of the problem, the change is completely pointless. It adds nothing to eve but more frustration and homogenizes it to look like every other game. It's even a broken piece of **** like most other games too, so thanks CCP; my downward spiral of desubbing accounts from a grand total of 9 when Incarna dropped, has now declined to merely 1 account left, and that one is on the way too if you **** up Odyssey as much as it looks like it will be ******.
Really, I wanna know what corporate fuckwit keeps coming up with all these bad ideas, whereupon I will find him and kick him in the nuts. "Herp derp 100mn tengus are op, let's nerf heavy missles; oh no we had no idea they would fit arties to nados; we thought people would love CQ, no really!"
Come on guys, you aren't even trying to hide the fact that you're milking out this franchise anymore. You've become that politician getting blowjobs in public because he knows he won't get in trouble for it so you don't care who knows. If you're going to **** with me and my Eve, at least have the decency to come up with a convincing lie first, instead of "we're changing bs hitpoints because we like round numbers." |

It's still there. Go to your EVE directory, then to /bin and just make a shortcut to "exefile.exe" This will bypass the ******** launcher and offer you the usual login screen. One that actually remembers your login and has only one enter to start the game instead of login and then play.
Once they patch eve it will tell you that it's wrong protocol. Run launcher then to patch the game and go back to loging in easy and fast instead of slow and convoluted. |

Not a fan of the new launcher, it says I have no internet connection, both links work but are slow. All my overview / game settings have been reset. Is there a way for us to get the "logoff" button. Quitting the game and having to reload it is not the best way to switch toons. Overall a poor release for the launcher. |

If I didn't have so much time, effort, and money invested in this game, this new launcher of yours would have lost you 3 paying accounts because of all the hassle I'm having.
Good job.
PS: Ever hear the saying "If it ain't broke don't fix it'? Previous launcher wasn't broke, why did you try to fix it?
Because it makes it easier for their outsourced coders to impliment new **** when the game is just like every other game they work on. Thus they homogenize the market and make it so you don't complain as much when they feed you ****. Kinda like how when gas spiked to $10 in the US that when it finally went down to $3 nobody complained. |

The first time you run the launcher, it can't find your settings. If you quit the launcher and relaunch it, it will find them. Nothing has been deleted.
CCP has a lot of plans for single sign-on, and if they pull half of them off we'll be pretty happy. Well, most of us will be. Proud founder and member of the Belligerent Desirables. |

I wonder if data was recorded for how many people checked the "do not show launcher unless there's an update" option... Was it underutilised and removed as reduntant, or was it overutilised and therefore removed in the same way as the load station environment option was automatically rechecked at Incarna release? |

Apparently that's just some excuse that happened to work for some people so they suggested it as a bandaid for everyone.
Edit: It's also worth mentioning that the launcher just plain doesn't work 2 out of 5 times I tried it. |
