Hello all. I am not sure what I am doing wrong here. I am doing the "The Exam" where I need to kill the terrorists at the pleasure hub. I can't even kill one of the ships.
Magnate is my ship.
Gatling Pulse Laser I - Multifrequency S Dual Light Beam Laser I - Multifrequency S
Small Armor Repair I Civilian Shield Booster
Stasis Webifier I
Any help is greatly appreciated! I am one day left from my free trial and this is frustrating the hell out of me :) |

It's been a while, but:
First, get rid of the Magnate and get a Punisher instead:
[noob Punisher]
Damage Control I Adaptive Nano Plating I Heat Sink I Small Armor Repairer I
Stasis Webifier I 1MN Afterburner I
Small Focused Pulse Laser I,Multifrequency S Small Focused Pulse Laser I,Multifrequency S Small Focused Pulse Laser I,Multifrequency S
I normally go for the escorts first rather than the boss. Keep Distance at whatever your optimal is, probably around 2.5 km; i. e. don't orbit. If the incoming damage gets too high burn away from the boss and warp off and repair. |

Magnate is an exploration ship, not a combat ship. It has bonuses to probe strength and exploration modules. Just about any of the other ships that the career agents have given you will work better.
Two very important things * Don't mix your weapons * Don't dual-tank
Fit a full rack of the same weapon, that way you have a distance at which you do full damage, instead of having two distances where you do half damage. You dictate the range of the combat, don't let the NPCs (well, try not to)
Dual tanking (shield and armour taking modules) is a waste of slots and a waste of cap, PG and CPU. Amarr are typically armour tankers, that means that for them the shields are a pretty red bar across the top of the HUD and all their tanking modules are for armour resists and armour repairs (or resists and bufffer).
If you're armour tanking you don't care if your shields are gone. If you're shield taking then armour is that last buffer that gives you time to get the hell out and repair. |
